We discovered this restaurant and shop on our first day in the Georgiouplos area when we stopped for lunch, and went back for dinner and wines twice during our stay. It was easily the best restaurant we experienced in our entire stay in Crete. This is a family-owned and operated establishment, and it shows, as the extended Alexaki family are at the restaurant serving guests and making food. It is an extension of their farm, and their great wines and other food products are available at the adjacent shop. The welcoming Kalliroi, who runs the restaurant, presides over a smooth and enjoyable atmosphere, helped by family and staff. We just adored her. We also particularly enjoyed meeting Yiannis, who served us with grace and humour on two evenings. We enjoyed everything we ate, which was fresh, well prepared and high quality at an affordable price. Some of the other reviewers commented that they found the portion sizes small. If you’re looking for massive plates of low quality food at low prices, there are plenty of other places around. This is very good food and drinks at good prices. And it works, as the place was very busy every time we were there, and we recognized other repeat customers. When we come back to Crete, we will go out of our way to come back to visit our new friends at this wonderful place.

During our Greek holiday we visited this place three times. It was a pity that we stayed quite far from it, because we could eat in that place every day. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was just perfect. Our first experience started with amazing Tzatziki and extremely delicious fava. Simple, but full of flavour starters. Then the daughter (who knows absolutely everything about dishes and can recommend them with a smile on her face) of the owners recommended us dorada fish as a main. It was perfect choice for us. You could absolutely taste the freshness of a fish caught in the morning. Next time we ate Tzatziki again and homemade cheese with homemade tomato marmalade. Then I ate the biggest and the most delicious grilled octopus in my life. I was so surprised how big my portion was. I ate grilled octopus many times in Spain and Portugal, but none of them was so great prepared. My husband ordered mussels and he was satisfied as well. Our last visit started from Tzatziki and fava. Then we ate grilled lamb (so delicious and tender) and fried calamaries. I think that every dish in this place tastes amazing, because Greek Mama uses natural products and put her heart to prepare everything as delicious as she can. Organic products make such a difference. We can highly recommend this place. I need to also mention about honesty of a waitress. When we ordered lamb, she came to our table and said that it's a last portion and it's not very big, so maybe we should order something else, which we did. She didn't have to do that, but she did. We totally adore her honesty. As it's an organic garden you can buy there olive oil, Cretean honey, mountain tea, raki and wine.

Wandering around Paralia Kourna (30min from Chania) , we found this dimmed lightning restaurant. Lovely spaced tabled with a welcoming waiter (and his family?) Offering heavy and light dishes. Either for food or waiter, ask to the waiters, they will tell you the freshest dishes. If I have to sum it up: lovely, quiet, good and a reason to come back to the island the Crete.

Such an unpleasant experience. Really ruined our day and our trust in Cretan hospitality. We visited the taverna following the great online reviews and I seriously suspect that most of them are bogus. To begin with, the place is not very well kept. You have a lawn with toys for the children, but they're in a very poor condition, dirty and half-broken. Then you can see the owners house adjacent to the taverna and it looks run down. That alone should have given us a clue about what to expect. Another thing we disliked is the pushy techniques to make us order more (we actually ordered a main for every person, drinks, salads, but the waitress kept pushing us). Now, the main dishes come without ani sides whatsoever. Have never seen a Greek taverna serving a main without some fries or salad! The dish of mussels with the sauce came without bread. We asked for bread and they charged us 6 euros for it! Ridiculous and not at all customary in Greece. They also bring tiny portions of bread for 5 people, pushing you to ask for more, but they never mention that it's not free. The beer came in a glass full by only 2/3. The apple juice was the cheapest kind from concentrate, my child couldn't drink it. The Greek salad was tiny compared to what you usually get at tavernas. They've decided to hose-wash the place while diners on premises, so the tiled area leading to the toilet including the staircase was filled with water, and my son fell off the stairs. Now, you could've said that we shouldn't have gone to the toilets in such case, but those "kind" people told us that we can use it. Their listing is untrue, as it states that it's a moderately priced place, but in fact it's quite expensive and heavily overpriced. We paid 75 euros for mediocre quality food which came in small portions. We have never been half-hungry after ordering full mains, plus salads and bread in Greece, as a matter of fact we usually leave some food unfinished. The service is indifferent borders rude, and that's when the place is nearly empty. Take your money and good appetite elsewhere, don't go to this rubbish place. The service leaves a lot to be desired. The waitress, who I think is the daughter of the owners is rude and overall quite unpleasant. Avoid this place, there are so many lovely tavernas in Crete. Don't ruin your experience in this beautiful island.

Located just off the main strip, this restaurant has a pleasant seating area. However, we did not enjoy our meal as we experienced a few issues. Firstly, my daughter requested a drink which was not fizzy and a fruit mocktail was suggested. I ordered one too and whilst it was delicious, it was also unfortunately fizzy as it contained Sprite. No apology or alternative was offered when I pointed this out. When our starters arrived, we received everything as well as an additional starter. Ordinarily, in the UK, I would have told the waiter, but some restaurants in Crete had offered us extra dishes to try, so it did not strike us as unusual. The Lady Maitre D was not impressed with the waiter as the dish had been intended for another customer. Her demeanour also gave the distinct impression that somehow, we were at fault. Finally, my son and I both ordered Chicken souvlaki. At least half my chicken was pink and undercooked. Despite this negative review, I really do not like complaining as I believe hospitality is very hard work. But I was not prepared to risk raw chicken and a stomach upset. The Lady Maitre D was unapologetic, blamed it squarely on the kitchen and the position of the chicken on the grill. I am not chef but really?! She also challenged us as to why we had not finished everything; the truth was we were just full. The food was expensive and we were supposedly compensated. The restaurant deducted the cost of the starter we did not order. This meal was supposed to big our ‘luxury’ dinner out but instead it left us feeling unimpressed and underwhelmed.

I was bought by all positive reviews, but in fact this place is a tourist trap, overpriced small portions (my main meal grilled octopus was rather a starter size), they charge for bread (they served 5 pieces of bread for 5 persons without us asking for the bread, so one would assume the bread is complimentary as in any other Cretan tavern), cheat with beer (two thirds of the glass was a froth) - I have been in quite a few Cretan taverns and never seen anything like this before. This place is a disgrace for this beautiful and otherwise very tourist friendly island. Plus, they have no idea about elementary safety for the customers, my kid slipped and fell on the completely wet floor on the stairs to the toilet as they decided to start cleaning in the middle of the day and didn't bother to warn us or put a sign that the floor is wet.

Excellent food and wonderful service. What stands out the most is the fact that literally all of the food is homemade. If you ask nicely and make reservations, they will give you the best fish you have ever eaten. Undoubtedly worth the visit if you are in the vicinity.

We ate 3 times there because the atmosphere is great. The food is wonderful and very cheap, served in a gorgeous garden surrounded by flowers and a nice view of the sunset. Definitively recommend!! Shout out to the waiters too, everyone is friendly

Gave up eating around this area as it is usually very touristy for pricing and quality of food, then I found Pelagia’s yard which offers excellent quality traditional food. They even put up with my terrible Greek. Nice garden setting. Friendly people. Been coming here for three or four years and will return.

The service was absolutely incredible! Every single waiter/ waitress that attended to us was incredibly attentive. There was live music (we went on a Monday) which was great fun and added a lovely atmosphere. The food was delicious and very obviously homemade. The prices were decent and definitely worth it. Can’t recommend this place enough, the waiter even did a shot of raki with us at the end of the meal!

We found this place after a morning of riding and swimming with horses. We arrived before the kitchen was open but it was worth the wait. The "yard" is quaint outdoor seating and the hostess/daughter was super hospitable. They were stoking the wood stove for the lamb to be served later; by the time we left it already smelled amazing. My sister is a vegetarian and Mamma Pelagia's stuffed vegetables were beautiful. We literally say Mamma in her garden picking fresh herbs and vegetables. I wish we were staying close by the location as we would have returned.

TL;DR Great place, nice view, friendly waiters with big heart, good food, cold raki and beer. Detailed review: Like most of us, we went in search of a nice place to eat on the first night of our vacation. Pelagias Yard caught our attention and to be honest, that's the reason we use trustpilot, we decided to go there because of the good reviews. In fact, we liked it there so much that we ate only in this tavern during our 12 days vacation. The place is very cozy and nicely located, near the main road but away from all the hustle and bustle. We also enjoyed the view of the mountains, which almost all other restaurants do not offer and leave you looking at the busy main road. The kids also have an area to play. The food is delicious and down to earth, usually with fries on the side, but you can always order baked potatos or something else instead. There are also different main dishes every day and incredible desserts. Also vegetarians will have something to choose from. If you order a steak, I would recommend specifying the degree of doneness you want. It is usually cooked well done. The meat from the wood oven was always delicious. All the waiters are very friendly, attentive, speak English and other languages. We are very glad that we discovered this place and think that you should visit it at least once! P.S. Thank you to all the members of Pelagias Yard, it was a pleasure to eat, drink and dance with you. You are all very charming people with a big warm heart. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to meet you!

We went there based on the 5star reviews & we’re really disappointed, service like nobody cares with dirty hands under finger nails, meat totally burnt, risotto nothing special. It looks like a lovely place on the picture but we don’t know what changed from last year. Not going again.

Had lunch here with my family on our way from Chania to our vacation villa near Rethymno. Great pick! Their grilled chicken was super delicious, not dry at all and nicely seasoned. We all loved it and that is quite something for some of us are very picky eaters. Highly recommended. Service was very friendly, too.

A pleasant atmosphere and friendliness are a given here, as is the case almost everywhere on Crete. The boss herself personally welcomes guests and takes their orders. The staff are generally young, motivated, friendly people. At least twice a week there is Greek music with a nice trio playing traditional musical instruments. Everything is just right except for the food. Extremely small portions with no taste, side dishes and vegetables are barely available or non-existent. Anyone who has been to Greece several times knows that something is not right here. Otherwise, the house wine is good.
