We went here to eat before visiting the Minoan Palace at Festos and were very glad we arrived early as otherwise we might never have made it to the palace. The owner speaks good English and makes you feel very welcome. The garden is beautiful, full of trees, shrubs and flowers and it would have been very easy just to... More

It is worth going to the small village of Vori to eat at Alekos Taverna. The food is fantastic. The oven baked feta, the stuffed peppers, the mushrooms in cream and the sword fish were among our favourites. We could actually list everything on the menu, as everything we had was superb. The owner and his wife obviously care very... More

Great taverna, beautiful garden, amazing food. Probably the simplest meal I had in Greece, but everything was of such high quality and prepared so perfectly that it transcended our expectations (which other Cretan restaurants had built quite high). From speaking to the owners we also learned more about contemporary life in Crete than we had in our previous two weeks... More

This restaurant is in a real mountain town tucked behind a little church. It is absolutely lovely with shaded tables under grape vines with pomegranate, lime, mandarin trees interspersed with basil and mint bushes. The food is sublime. We ordered the Crete salad and it was just perfectly balanced with perfectly cooked and cooled egg and potato. The fried eggplant... More

Visited twice - once for lunch and once for dinner. Both were excellent. Restaurant is owned and run by a husband and wife team - she is the chef. Service is impeccable and the food is fantastic, Try the Cretan Salad - but best of all try the Moussaka but you may have to order the day before as it's... More

Excellent homemade food in the lovely garden of an old traditional house. All plates were delicious with high quality ingredients. I would recomment the cheese pie as dessert. Also, the Ethnology Museum nearby is worth a visit.

Alekos tavern is conveniently located near festos and not far from matala in the village of vori. The tavern has a friendly and very relaxed family atmosphere. We ordered ntakos, escargots, stuffed cauli flowers and meatballs stuffed with feta. The food is really first rate, I would consider it to be better than many cretan households! Probably the best meatballs... More

We ate here after visiting the Ethnology Museum. Alekos & his wife offer fresh, traditional Cretan food in a delightful open air setting. It was so good, we came back the next day! Alekos is very welcoming & great to talk to.

Tip: Take in some of the archeological sites nearby and come here for lunch. It is a lovely place to cool down in and get good food. We arrived early after visiting the nearby Agia Triada archeological site. We had a pre-ordered meal, which was great. Our starters and drinks came out quickly. I was taken by the checking and...
