We went to this restaurant hoping for a somewhat special afternoon. You could tell that effort had gone into trying to create a fine dining experience. Unfortunately there are parts of that goal are sub par. Both of us have traveled extensively in most regions...of the world and have eaten an many superb dining spots. This was not one to remember... The strengths of this eatery lie in the front of the house. Service was excellent and caring, which was evident at every step of the experience. The wine list is extensive and pricing is about 250 percent of what one might pay in an average wine store. Which is fair for an upscale cocina. We could not believe the extensive selection, especially in the wines of Mexico section of the wine list. The bar seemed excellent as well but we spent no time there because our table was ready upon arrival. The decor is modern for Mexico but seemed a little tired in places. Seating was not very comfortable and more care could have gone into selection of the chairs. We liked the large horizontal art installation in the non.smoking dining room very much. The lighting choices were a bit too 1980s for the vibe they were attempting to pull off. Now for the food: We both ordered the “Ensalada de la Casa.” The greens were of a reasonable quality. The additional vegetables were a bit sparse and skimpy. The salads themselves were generous but the lettuce had not been dried and the bowls each had a generous supply of water in the bottom of the bowl. We loved the bowls in which the salads were served. Our entrees were the Paella with Mariscos and the Linguini with Wine Sauce and Clams. The best part of the paella was the rice. The flavors were excellent but those wonderful crusty almost burned bits that make a great paella were not there at all. The clams were of a lesser quality and the calamari rings were over cooked and rubbery. The shrimp was slightly over cooked as well, but seemed to be a good quality product, just mishandled by the chef. The pork rib let’s were cooked properly but they needed to be par-boiled prior to roasting to ensure a tender texture. The linguini was extremely pastey and glue like. The sauce was not to our taste . The dish was returned to the chef and was exchanged for a corvina fish dish that was quite acceptable but not exceptional. We opted not to order dessert because the food in general was very inconsistent in quality of product and execution by the chef. For us it is an hour’s drive to this establishment for a meal. We would like to give them a second chance but will probably not return due to the distancie.. It is too bad because we really wanted to love this restaurant but we didn’t.More

Was so surprised in delighted by this gem buried in the lush mountains of Michoacán. Great service which is so scare in Mexico. Breathtaking presentation, succulent flavors and impeccably prepared dishes. I had the salmon with a side of pure de comote (purée of sweet...potatoes). Divine. My daughters split the homemade fettuccini with chipotle and shrimp. We loved every moment and will definitely be back soon. Oh and they have California reds and whites on their wine list. Rare in Mexico!!!More

As a bit of a food snob from Los Angeles I was blown away by the total experience at this sophisticated but accessible restaurant. Oh how I wish it was in Los Angeles (but with the reasonable MX prices)! The restaurant is gorgeous and unique...and incorporated design and motifs from the state of Michoacán yet very modern. The staff was knowledgeable and truly proud of the food and decor. We had a window seat next to the kitchen - super to enjoy the care and focus of the kitchen staff who were all clearly professionally trained. The service was spot on. We had an amazing special drink not on the regular menu using fresh seasonal ingredients that was recommended - fabulous. The food was all amazing. I had the costillo -yum. Great Cesar salad to start. Good wine choices. Phenomenal dessert. Ate too much but worth it. Honestly thinking about another trip through Uruapan just to enjoy this wonderful spot again. Total WOW.More

We, a group of about 20 people, had dinner on Sunday at this beautiful restaurant of sleek architectural design. They'd close at 7pm Sunday, but stayed open for us. Marino, the operation director, is extremely accommodating, generous and friendly. The staff is courteous. The menu...is extensive. Their wine collection is enormous. I'd call the food "fusion" - innovative and interesting. The owner selected a variety of appetizers, the best of all of which was a grilled octopus leg - wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked! One problem was that appetizers were brought one after another, all so good we couldn't pass up, and by the time we started the main course, we were pretty full. Our group ordered a variety of dishes for the main course. I ordered tuna prepared as tataki. Unfortunately it was very tender but was not seared enough on the surface to seal the flavor. Mario asked me how it was, so I gave him my honest opinion. He offered to take it back, but that was not necessary. He listened to my suggestion, so I'm sure their tuna dish will improve to perfection in due course. It's quite amazing such a restaurant like this exists in a provincial city of Uruapan. It symbolizes the beauty and the promising future of Uruapan.More

As with many big cities in Mexico, the architecture and feel of centro is not to be missed, but the good food always seems to be farther out in neighborhoods where the standard of living is much higher. That was the case with Cocina M....A 40 peso cab ride delivers you to an ambiance you might find in Manhattan. We opted for the large central room where the fountain wall, wine cellar open kitchen, bar and green wall could all be seen. The menu is extensive and inventive. I chose to start with a Tequila Sour followed by Carnitas Gyoza on a bed of camote, Salmon Papillote accompanied by well seasoned vegetables and a Sorbet of a tart Japanese fruit and Zapote. Two glasses of La Cetto pinot grigio washed it down. Good prices and great service. Go!More

I´ve only been once to this restaurant..It´s not only beautiful, but the food is great. The design is very modern, geometric, but with so much green areas. They have an entire high wall made of plants... The food is great, its very gourmet....Dont get me...wrong, I love the taste, but I personally eat A LOT, so in my case, its a little out of my budget just because I would have to ask for more than one dish... Another thing that is worth noticing is that all the vegetables come from their own little orchard, and its organic... Sooo if you ask for a salad you know you are eating organic :)More

This restaurant is a hidden gem. We had a wonderfull time with amazing food, you would not expect this kind of high level quality in such a small town. The style and architecture are modern. The service is outstanding and really attentive. The high quality...and the refined tastes made our diner a real culinary trip. Mexican food with influences from so many cultures. we understand it comes from the chefs great experience in restaurants over the world. We had a delicious ceviche from different kinds of seafood with an Asian touch. Great gyozas with carnitas. And so many superb cocktails! We drank a delicious Mexican white wine (chenin blanc - chardonnay), affordable priced as well. Unfortunately we don't live close by otherwise this would be our favourite restaurant.More
