Visited for Sunday lunch. Three had the roast beef which they enjoyed, especially the roast parsnips and carrots. The carrots had a touch of cumin. I had the tartiflette which came with a salad. It was very tasty. The soup of the day, summer vegetable was delicious. No room for desserts. The staff were very efficient and friendly. As gave... More

Treated my sons to lunch at The Highlander last week and it was truly divine dining. The French chef knows his stuff and creates some sumptuous dishes. We shared 3 starters with a side order of chips, the Tai fishcakes with crunchy bean salad, vegetable fritter and fresh dressed crab was a tastey and tantalising . Love their food, always... More

Popped in on the way to Luton. We enjoyed ice cold Aspells cider, a crayfish sandwich with a very large side order of chips and handcarved ham, chips and fried egg, interior nice, and no music which was lovely. Didn't have a wait long for our food, we'll definitely visit again.

Had 2 hot meals whilst sitting outside. The food was good quality, well presented and very tasty. Service excellent, scored one pint down for worn decor and furnishings

We frequently go to this pub for lunch it's our go to spot. The food is consistent they also support local produce, my Dad loves real ale so he loves this place for the variety, the staff are always welcoming. Our firm favourite in Hitchin don't change.

A very busy Friday night. Food is fresh, good menu choices and pleasant staff. Only reason this did no get 5 stars was the wait for the food. Arrived 7.20 and not served until past 8.30. Starters and deserts are expensive but mains reasonably priced and some good wine options. Would recommend.

Lovely pub serving some interesting dishes, not the usual 'pub grub'. We had a perfectly cooked and presented meal at a very good price. Very warm atmosphere, strongly recommended !

Visited the pub for food and had one of the best pub meals ever. The three of us had different items and we all stated without prompting that the food was fabulous. I was very pleased with the friendly nature of the place and staff who genuinely seemed to care. You can tell when a pub is well looked after... More

We were looking for a late lunch whilst driving through Hitchin on our way back home. The name of the pub drew us in initially (me being Scotish and a fan of the film of the same name) and we were not dissapointed. As we arrived at nearly 2pm, we asked if they were still serving food and we were... More

The Highlander is very underrated. For Sunday lunch I would choose it over any other location in Hitchin - the servings are generous and of a high quality and best of all, it's pretty cheap. There's parking too which is handy as it's on the road to Luton.
