Been a few times over the years. Seems the menu has reduced in size. Despite this selection is okay. I had the pie which had been over cooked or warmed more than once. Despite this, taste was good. Surroundings a little dated. Okay local pub

The minute we walked in we were treated as if we were old friends. We were shown to our table and the service from there on was delightful - friendly, efficient, quick, accommodating. I had the best ham and eggs - with a tasty salad...More

I have been to the Whitestone several times in the past without issue. Having just moved to the island, I went in here for lunch and the service has gone terribly downhill. Food took around 45 minutes to arrive on a relatively quiet lunch. Ordered...More

70's pub décor. Waitress was friendly and beer nice, but the food took forever to come - communication about why this was and how long it would be was non-existent. When it did, the fish was badly overcooked accompanied surprisingly by cold mushy peas. The...More

We ventured out to ballasalla after hearing so many great reviews about the place, and it lived up to expectation. The staff were so lovely and chatty and made sure everything we needed, we had. We had the breaded brie and the garlic mushrooms to...More

What a shame, we popped into this pub on our last evening on IOM. We were shown to a table that was so sticky. Why oh why is good housekeeping such a problem for some pubs. My partner ordered the 'fish & chips', which was...More

Whatever happened to people like Mousey Christian from the Swan in Ramsey, Herbie Nelson from the Whitestone in Ballasalla and Billy Williams from the Albert in Port St. Mary? Folks like these made the pub what it was, they actually worked behind the bar and they stood out in the community. Herbie Nelson was a perfect example. His beer was so bad, it was said (albeit by Herbie himself) that folk used to travel over to the Island from Llandudno on daytrips to visit his pub and sample his beer because they could not believe it was so bad. There was not a lot of point in complaining about the state of your pint to Herbie either as, his standard reply to most complaints was. “Well you should be so lucky, you only have a pint of it, I have a bloody seller full.” This tale was told to me by Herbie himself. A certain postman in Ballasalla wandered into Herbies pub for a pint after finishing his round at lunchtime. He called out for a pint and emptied all the change from his pocket on to the bar. Herbie was not the greatest mathematician in the world and began counting the pennies and halfpennies, washers, bits of string and Heaven only knows what else. . The postman downed his pint and headed for the door. As he passed through the door Herbie yelled after him “Oy Quirk, you are a penny short here?” “No” came the reply. “Tis you Nelson that is a penny short!”
