We walked here (10-15 minutes from the port) for an early dinner at the day of our departure, and were only sorry we didn't have time to go back. The meal was really excellent, and the service was fast and friendly even though we were there early in the day, when we thought they might not have really started yet.... More

We have eaten is several restaurants on the island so far and Mixalios is by far the stand out of them all! From the attentive & friendly welcoming service. The portions sizes are definitely value for money. But the food is superb! Had the fried Zuccini to start then one of us had baby goat in lemon (this is what... More

Great family run restaurant. Their lamb on the spit has been a "mystic" experience. Home farmed product. Don't exceed with choices, their dishes are not diet friendly. Last but not least, value for money is great. Enjoy.

Regular restaurant. Outside the centre of the village. Quiet and calm. Far away from the best lamb chops I ate in Koufonissi.

This is a gem of restaurant, which locals recommended as the best place to have meat. With good reason! It's a family-owned taverna and they have a fascinating story about how they catch free range animals on Keros on their FB site, as well as other interesting stories. Most of their products are either their own or locally sourced, eg... More

We visited this place for dinner. We ordered goat for 2, a Greek salad, 1 beer , fried potatoes and 1 appetizer. The bill was 50 euro although another for the exactly same order we paid 29 euro on a different tavern and the quality really bad except of the potatoes. I don't recommend it

We stayed 2 1/2 weeks at michalios. We rent a littel and very nice studio. They clened everyday the room and helped us with everything. The location is perfekt. Short way to the beach and also a short way to the city. The taverne is perfekt. Best fried zuchini from the island and very very good meet. We loved to... More

Delicious Pork Chop and Goat filled with Feta accompanied by the best salad we have had on the island this time. The portions are very generous and the waitress was a delight. They came with a complimentary desert with cinnamon flavoured raki which was also excellent. A very pleasant evening and sensibly priced as well. Highly recomended

Mixalios GRILL HOUSE is a family-owned restaurant that was established in 1999 and offers a wide range of dishes with ingredients that are all locally sourced, either from our own farms in Koufonisia, but also Keros and Naxos.

Mixalios, our grandfather, grew up in the neighboring island of Kato Koufonisi, where he still has his farm
of goats and sheep. Every day, all through the year, at 5 am, Mixalios takes his boat and goes to Kato Koufonisi to take care of the animals and comes back by sunset.

But the family also has goats on the uninhabited island of Keros, where they graze freely. Only one fresh-water well exists on the island, by the shore, and all animals descend every day from the mountains to drink from there. Between May and June, Mixalios and his son, Giannis Prasinos, visit the island early in the morning, place a large flat stone on the well’s opening blocking access to the water, and this allows them to easily capture animals waiting to get a drink!

Giannis, the owner of the GRILL HOUSE, also has small farms at Ano Koufonisi, where he feeds his cows, free-range roosters, and pigs. All the animals are fed grain that is grown by Giannis himself on his lands both at Ano and Kato Koufonisi.

Anna, our grandmother, makes three types of local cheese, prepared from our own cow and goat milk on a wood fire, using a traditional recipe. We serve xinomizithra, a soft, white, sour cheese, which is light in fat; ladotiri, which is a sharp, hard cheese, aged in oil; and feta.

Yiayia Anna, also makes rakomelo, a sweet liqueur with raki, cinnamon and a mixture of honey and sugar.

Maria, Gianni’s wife, makes “halva” pastry, which is made with semolina, cinnamon, and syrup. It is topped with her specialty, a “spoon sweet” made with fresh carrots.

Enjoy your meal!
