Off the beaten track this village (with a huge maypole) pub sits at the end of a North Yorkshire no-through road but one thing is clear - word has got out! New ownership...well-renowned chefs...& great enterprising plans for the future. John & Claire Topham - late of The Angel at Hetton; The General Tarleton at Ferrensby are now co-managing 'The... A warm welcome, nice decor, well kept beer, good main menu with a specials menu, well priced wine list and most importantly good food well presented. The village is pretty and the pub has a beer garden , private dining facilities and you can just pop into the bar area for a drink if you don't want to eat. The... More

Have been here many times. Had a lovely lunch here but it was so busy we ate in the bar and felt a bit away from the normal atmosphere. On our last visit there was the most delicious steak pie, which wasn't there this time, in fact the pub standards seemed to be missing; is this the strategy of the... More

Thank you for giving us a lovely review and I'm pleased you enjoyed your lunch. I am sorry we were not able to accommodate you in the Snug or Fishermans Bar and recommend booking at busy times. We change the menus on a regular basis and with the seasons so I'm sorry that the steak pie wasn't available, it will... More

Visited last Sunday lunch and knew several people there who were complaining about poor service - still waiting for their coffee at 3pm after booking lunch for 1pm. We arrived for a late lunch and did have to ask where the starters were after 30 minutes but otherwise food and service were acceptable. What was not acceptable was the barman,... More

Thank you for posting your review on Tripadvisor and I am really sorry that you did not receive the customer care that you should have done and which we are very proud of. It was an extremely busy Sunday lunch and we were two members of staff short due to unforeseen circumstances. I am sorry this affected your experience and... More

After a gruelling row on the River Nidd for Red Nose Day, in a bath/raft I staggered into the pub for a well earned pint. The Yorkshire Blonde hit the spot. The restaurant food was excellent and the service superb. The decor was well thought out and welcoming and the staff were very engaging. Although a little off the beaten... More

The last time I reviewed this Inn it was dire but rumours of new ownership persuaded me to go again with friends to what is, after all, a very attractive location in this pretty village. So we chose a Sunday lunch. The menu was a 'Sunday Lunch' menu and not cheap but very adequate although I would have liked to... More

The village is beautiful and the pub is welcoming. We've been a few times but this is the first time we've eaten. I had the Ox Cheek and it was just the most melt in the mouth wonderful food ever. My wife had a minute steak and made similar noises. Dogs are welcome in the bar area and the staff... More
