This is my favourite quintessential English pub. It is stuffed with an eclectic display of charming antiques creating a relaxed informal atmosphere. Especially enhanced by the wood burning stoves. You're just as likely to meet a shooting party with their black labradors patiently waiting as to granny entertaining her godchildren or a young local couple on their first date in... More

Eight of us were booked in for a Sunday Roast as we were in Fryton (just a short walk across a few fields). The pub was cosy with a wood burning fire and the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating as we could reserve a chicken meal just incase they ran out. The food and service were very good... More

On visiting York we travelled to the Grapes with family fir Sunday lunch. We had not been there before but my son and his wife had been before and said how good it was. They were not wrong. The atmosphere was good, we received a nice welcome and the food was excellent. It made it even nicer that we sat... More

My husband, daughter and I, together with labrador Evie, enjoyed a truly delicious light lunch mid day. I had the soup of the day, hubby had goulash, daughter had the crayfish sandwich and Evie had a crisp or two! Wonderful home cooked food. Beautiful and cosy quirky pub with open wood burner. Hubby left his scarf which they happily offered to... More

Had Sunday lunch for 2 at the weekend, the meal was fabulous. Home cooked and fresh, had 2 courses and couldn't eat a pudding. I would definitely recommend a visit but would advise booking first as it was busy.

Our rambling group's lunch date was here after a very cold winter morning's stroll through beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The pub is extremely well decorated and furnished as any visitor finds on entry. A good selection of ales awaits as does the varied menu on the chalkboard. We all chose the lunchtime two course senior citizens deal at £8.95, revealing the... More

Dropped in after a couple of hours walking for a beer, loved the feel of the place and we could be slotted in for Sunday Lunch so why not. Main courses for 3 and 2 puddings-beef and pork were very good with fab veg, the gammon with 2 eggs and proper chips also good. Puddings were very very good and... More

We visited for Sunday lunch and had a very good meal for a reasonable price with good service. With a roaring fire we were quite content to sit and have a coffee after our lunch.
