I was invited by my friends to this quaint place by the canal (they call it river). Nestled in the vicinity of what seems to be an old warehouse converted to an array of pubs and bars. After being in Changzhou for the last 2...years, this place certainly is worth visiting. With the nostalgic charm, it kind of reminded me of Clark Quay in Singapore or the “Hutong” in Beijing. This restaurant have a generous display of distillery as it’s backdrop with a good variety of draft beer. Ask for the English menu. The 3 of us ordered:- - Salad - Burger - Pork Knuckle (didn’t come with sauerkraut) - Pasta The taste was acceptable for the price they charge but I feel that the servings are a tat too small for European/German serving. I’m an Australian so, maybe I’m just used to the servings there. The place was bustling (for a mid-week) with folks from the working class. The “looped” music and video played as you dine. I was told that they used to have foreign waiting staff engaging with the diners. That’s the only glitch that I think impaired my ratings. The waiting staff understandably are locals who may not be as engaging as the experienced ones. They were not able to recommend spontaneously, their menu highlights and being a “first-timer”, I have to contend to negate the menu on my own. The table top were rather narrow and disproportionate to the plates they put on the table. The food and quality would be close to what you’d expect in German food. However, look out for an “Indian” dish that sits rather odd in the menu. Certainly worth the try and I’m sure this place will be “rockin’ N rolling” over weekends and Octoberfest.More
