Good dinner, attentive and fast friendly service.
We had a grilled fish, fresh good and well cooked, grilled prawns and a dish with artichokes and potatoes, really good.

Highly recommended! Local tavern, not too touristy. The Owner is nice and the food very good, with great value for money. We tried Moussaka, octopus and bream, all really delicious; in two, with house wine, we spent 43 €. Try it!

Good food, as almost everywhere in Matala is more generally in Crete. Fresh fish even though my grilled octopus was alas charred. But the reception and customer management were bad. We had booked and as soon as we arrived the owner allowed himself to intimidate my daughters with stern and frowning expressions and gestures of denial (he shook his index finger with a never seen!!) when they politely asked me to have a high chair or to see what was in the oil tank and smell (as we did in all the premises with the amused smiles of the owners and waiters). He even allowed himself to tell me that he knew how to do it with them because he has three children (we too eh!) and took salt and pepper oil off the table saying that they were ceramic and could break (in fact my daughters asked and I took the oil tanker!) ... what a shame! my husband put it in place saying that we parents take care of our children and he can take care of the kitchen. My three-year-old hid behind the stroller for the way she looked at it and could hardly eat. Unfortunately it was too late to move to another place.

Typical Greek family tavern. Very good grilled sea bream and octopus. Beef stew ok. The dolmades arrived after 20 minutes and were cold inside (defrosted on the fly?)

We especially liked the hospitality of the managers, who at the end of the meal offered us raki and a jelly and not because we were with two children. Must admit we were not impressed. The Greek salad was excellent and the tzatziki was great. However, when I started out by asking, out of simple interest, where the fresh fish was caught and landed, the waiter seemed annoyed and asked if I expected him to explain the fishing place for every single fish. As a matter of fact, the fresh fish seemed not that fresh or just overcooked. Both the swordfish and the Dorade were pretty dry, and unusually uninteresting. Also, the standard with a small bottle of local olive oil and vinegar was missing from the table.
After paying, the usual free piece of water melon and a glass of Raki was replaced with a plastic wrapped factory-cookie with a dry cocktail cherry. And no Raki. Not that we're huge fans of Raki, but it was just another little detail on the long list that makes me rate this an ok but also not more than average experience.

Our favorite tavern in Matala! Mom is an amazing cook! Delicious stewed octopus, the best eaten in Crete; very fresh and tasty sea bream, like dolmades. Absolutely reasonable price-quality ratio. Highly recommended

We went to this restaurant after reading reviews. Now I don't understand why these are so positive. The restaurant doesn't have any view, the service is average. We ordered greak salad (very average with a harsh onion) and sword fish wich was overcooked, drye and hard. After this our stomacs (usually we don't have problems with it) stoped to work.

Always such a pleasure being back at this taverna! Celebrated my partners’s 50th here this summer and they arranged a beautiful cake! It’s like our second Greek family when here. Food delicious and fresh, very busy at times so be early to avoid disappointment.

i ask for a chicken souvlaki. dry and flat chicken souvlaki, a greece salade without Olivenöl, it was something else. this was the first and the last time that spend my money there. it's a very nicht place to be there but the menu is a joke!!!!

It was funny, it was delicious and it was authentic crete!I like the dry local white wine and our food was down to earth very good food. The guy was very busy, cause outside he managed everything by himself, but he kept very calm and cool. It doesn't take much time. So, we really enjoyed our time there!!!
