This family run restaurant is a joy! It is a little out of town but walkable. The food is wonderful, everything is made in the restaurant kitchen. You can tell that they have been making the local speciality for a long time. The wine list is just about the right length with sufficient choice but not so long as to... More

There were four of us and we ordered four different appetizers, four different main courses and four different desserts....and we kept passing the plates around the table so nobody missed out on anything! Every bite was a dream come true. The wine list was lovely and the staff was friendly, polite and professional. I have to recommend the Cassoulet here,... More

Having walked to the restaurant from the Canal through hail and cold winds with plans to savour their cassoulet, the four of us were told the kitchen was closed although we had just seen the cook staff outside having a smoke! It was not even 1:30 and as cassoulet is cooked ahead of time, there is very little for the... More

After a year in France, one of my last meals was here with a neighbour. The first thing to advise, do not be put off by the location behind a petrol station. Because once you're inside, it really is a great restaurant. Firstly, excellent and friendly service from the staff. Its a family run affair and that shows in the... More

Had dinner at Le Tirou after spending a week on the Canal du Midi. The food, some family recipes included, is amazing and portions generous, the hosts very welcoming and friendly and garden setting (albeit animals) is peaceful and tranquil. Be sure to try the cassoulet and follow the hosts' wine recommendations. Well worth a visit and a food highlight... More

After nearly a month in the birthplace of cassoulet we finally made time to sit down and enjoy this regional specialty. Locals highly recommended Le Tirou, and we are ever so grateful for their suggestion. The initial warm welcome, the atmosphere, the kindness and the culinary knowledge of the French/English speaking staff, and the table side visit from the owner/chef... More

Great for a smart meal with beautiful food. They don't seem to want children there- even if well behaved. A shame so we go else where more often than not.

Don't be put off by the setting. The food was excellent. There were six of us so we had a private room with a door out onto the garden. It was too windy to sit outside. Eat a very hearty dinner of foie gras and cassoulet. Good advice on reasonably priced local wines.

27th August 2015-Dinner. 5 of us, 2 adults and "kids" 22; 21; 17. Unprepossessing location off main road and next to garage. Don't worry; inside it's very calm and comfortable and there is a large dining area outside overlooking a paddock with donkeys and alpacas. Service by a very nice young Frenchman. Madame oversees everything, and the chef (who clearly... More

Following T/A advice we booked in here and were not disappointed . It is a family run business of many years standing and they are justifiably proud of their reputation. Menus were available at a variety of prices and any one would have been acceptable . Cassoulet had to be experienced here , Castelnaudary being the home of this dish... More
