A very chilled restaurant full of extremely tasty dishes and very helpful staff. A meal for four was very reasonable with three bottles of wine and it caters for all diets. As a vegan I'm able to find a lot of stuff to eat, and when you tell them you want spice you get SPICE. Beautiful!

Moonstone is a gem of Hove. We love the relaxed atmosphere incredible vegan dishes. Our top dishes are the mango salad, devilled cauliflower (THE best), aubergine Sri Lankan curry, and garlic & lemon rice, perfectly accompanied with a Sri Lankan lion beer - perfection! Our favourite way to enjoy Moonstone is with a selection of dishes to share.
Our only request would be for your poppadoms to be made vegan, as we are always jealous when we see others nibbling on them with their drinks!
The prices are *incredibly* reasonable... so much so that we often order a couple of extras to add to our leftovers for dinner the text night!
Moonstone was first recommended to us by a friend of a friend, and since our first visit we haven't stopped returning and bringing others! They deserve all the great word-of-mouth recommendations they get.
Thank you for bringing a piece of Sri Lanka to Hove! We can't wait for our next (imminent!) visit.

Absolutely delicious food! I have coeliac disease and am always nervous trying new places to eat, but I had a reassuring response to an email I had sent previously, and when we arrived I spoke to Shehani who understood immediately about the gluten-free dietary requirements and ensured the chefs knew straight away.
I chose the okra curry and steamed rice which was sooooo tasty, and my partner had the devilled prawns which they said were also delicious. I was curious to know how they were made and Shehani immediately told me they weren’t suitable for me as they contain soy sauce. Impressed again!
I wanted to choose the Sri Lankan pancake for dessert but was told it could be a ‘may contain’ for gluten so was advised against it. I had the wattalappan which reminded me of a very dense crème caramel, and was very tasty.
The restaurant is quite small and cosy, lovely muted lighting and interesting artwork on the walls.
There were so many tasty items on the menu and I can’t wait to go back to try something different.
10/10 for a lovely meal 😍

Moonstone is a true gem! The food was absolutely delicious, full of bold flavours and beautifully presented. The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, making the whole experience even more special. A must-visit in Brighton & Hove, can’t wait to return! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dined here a few years ago, and it was wonderful. Today... not so much. We waited 45 mins, for even just drinks. Food was OK, nothing exciting. The waitresses were charming, if slow, but ultimately we thought it was overpriced for our lack lustre experience. 😞

Upon arrival, the waitress was not particularly inviting, but pleasant enough. She took our drinks, and all was good, apart from the beer not being cold but not to worry. She took ages to come back after telling her we weren't quite ready to order food yet. We'd been in the restaurant about 40 minutes before our starter even came out! Luckily, the vegetable samosas were great, and you can tell they'd been freshly made with homemade pastry which was lovely. For main, we ordered the south coast chicken special, and the devilled chicken, both with medium-hot spice, chicken rice, plain rice, and the Sri Lankan omelette. When brought out, everything looked lovely, and we thought it was a nice touch that they gave us a lentil dahl on the house, although it was not overly flavourful. The devilled chicken was THE BEST by far, so spicy and sticky and delicious, I couldn't stop eating it! The rices were nicely cooked, but the omelette was a bit too wet for my liking, and almost tasteless. However, the most disappointing thing was the South coast special chicken, which was surprisingly bland, having asked for the same heat in both, so unfortunately we had to complain. It took us ages to get the waitress' attention, as the poor girl was doing everything on her own, despite us seeing 4 different men bring food up. However, once the issue was addressed, the dish was taken back to the kitchen and chilli flakes were added, but by that time it was too late and we'd nearly finished our meal. I think this is one of those places where you really need to choose your dishes wisely. I'd definitely come back here again for the devilled chicken alone, but we know now what not to order. Saying that, everyone's taste pallet is different and I'm sure there are many people who thoroughly enjoy this restaurant so I wouldn't want to put anyone off from trying it. The bill was a little pricey, and watch out for the £7.50 service charge they add on.

When we arrived at 7 on a Friday evening the restaurant was very cold. We waited a long time for our food (apparently freshly cooked)
Three of us had the lamb in different dishes which was very chewy. One had tuna in a sauce which she enjoyed, hence the 2 stars.

Absolutely wonderful place to eat and will definately being going back. Warm and friendly atmosphere, all the food came out together (5 of us) and was SO tasty. A real variation of flavours and the waitress was very sweet. Excellent value too! Well done :)

The food was nice. Bit dry but nice flavours,
The drinks however, a can of Diet Coke £2.95 pored from a can that says 89p from a multiple pack, this you don’t expect from a restaurant,
The staff were friendly but very quiet ,hard to get a simple conversation from.
And food arrived in drubs and drabs, a simple ice cream arrived after my wife had finished her cheesecake.

Kind of disappointed. Curry and rice is £17, which puts this restaurant in Giggling Squid and Indian Summer territory and it’s just nowhere near as good as them.
The foods not bad, just overpriced for what it is. And service is not great. Nice people just heavy on the upsell, telling me to order something cos they obvs had cooked too much of it. That’s fine, we all got to graft huh?
But when you can get such delicious food at this price point was just a bit let down. Average basically. Pho, Giggling Squid, Bincho, Manjus are all loads better.

We have eaten a few times in Moonstone and the food has always been amazing. So we booked it for my son's birthday and invited all our friends and family. It was a great experience and we were made to feel comfortable and the food was delicious and authentic to the Sri Lankan culture we love. Staff were very friendly and the owner made sure we all had a good time and checked that my son was happy with everything. We were even allowed to decorate the restaurant and put photos up which gave it an extra special night. Thank you again Dimuthu!

We had such a lovely evening out at Moonstone last night. The staff were friendly and welcoming the moment we walked through the door. The food was absolutely delicious and catered perfectly for the meat eaters and the veggies in the group. The atmosphere was lovely and relaxed and they very generously brought us a complimentary dish. Very generous portions and cooked with love. Would definitely go again- thanks for a great evening.

The food was really good with the curryies being the highlights and the low point being something called String Loops (don’t bother, sounds interesting but totally bland). Service was friendly and we got a cauliflower dish on the house as waiting time was a bit long. It’s a bit cold inside the restaurant temperature wise.

I was blown away when I tried their string hoppers and kingfish curry at a friend’s place. The soft string hoppers perfectly complement the rich, aromatic kingfish curry. The fish is tender and cooked to perfection, making it a must-try. Moonstone truly excels in delivering authentic and high-quality Sri Lankan flavours.

Had an amazing dining experience at Moonstone Sri Lankan Restaurant with my family yesterday. We tried the Kottu and fried rice, and both were outstanding. The Kottu had a perfect mix of spices and ingredients, while the fried rice was flavorful and satisfying. The staff was friendly, and the service was excellent. This place is a gem for anyone looking to enjoy genuine Sri Lankan food. We'll definitely be back
Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Sri Lankan cuisine!
