For a romantic dinner this establishment is not the Liu adapted because the room is noisy, like many Portuguese restaurants moreover. My husband and I want grilled chicken tonight, we went around all the establishments and this one seemed the most welcoming (unlike some neighboring restaurants where hello seems to be optional and the use of cutlery is charged 4€! I admit it never occurred to me to come to dinner with my own cutlery!). In short, back to our culinary experience: the octopus is perfectly cooked and seasoned, the person is charming, just right, no fuss, smiling and pleasant. For a “standard” appetite you don’t need to take a side dish because the dishes already include a mix of sides. If on the other hand you have a strong appetite then please yourself. We did not have dessert, the dish for 2 without additional accompaniment largely satiated us. Portuguese cuisine being very generous... the value for money is perfect. Nothing wrong

Morning in Matosinhos

After reading the reviews I opted for lunch during a visit to Matosinhos.. I immediately found a table without a reservation at opening time, but after a short time the place was already full.. Very kind waiters and an amazing lunch.. We opted for an octopus salad and a squid salad, then roasted cuttlefish and lagareiro-style cod... What can I say, very tasty and abundant dishes, especially the cod, be careful because the half portion is actually an overflowing tray, I can't imagine what the full portion is like !!.. The dessert to finish was also good, but I assure you that there was nothing left for us to be so full.. The bill then another surprise, all with 2 beers, water, coffee for 65 euros!!!.. Promoted!! !

Very popular place so be prepared to have to wait but we went around 12+ on a Thursday and was lucky without any queue. Because of its popularity, the servers were constantly busy so don't expect affectionate service. We ordered 3 dishes (see pictures) and the waiter was kind enough to inform that our initial order was way too much. The food was fresh and tasty but our dishes had similar base (olive oil) so it became quite overwhelming and we were pretty cloyed with the food towards the end.

The turbot served was from poultry despite being presented as being from the sea. They say "wild", but he is fed with food: soft, without texture, like artificial food. Horrible, for those who know PEIXE DO MAR Another example of Pesca Nova de Mira. Delicious but disappointing

We received rave reviews from many people to visit this restaurant, so we took a 20€ Uber ride with excitement and visions of a romantic dinner on our last night in Porto. That’s where the romance ended. Our waitress took our order, delivered 1/2 carafe of vinho verde, bread and olives. Then she disappeared. No water (after 3 requests), no cocktails, no calamari, no caldo verde. Everyone around us had their full order. Our fish finally arrived after a different server paraded it around to every other table…by process of elimination they figured out it was ours. By then she was angry and unceremoniously filleted our sole, put it on our plates, and stormed off. (Thus, no mouthwatering pictures to post…) Yet another server came to our table when we were finished and seemed surprised we didn’t stay for coffee or dessert. We couldn’t wait to leave! As we embarked on the long journey back to our hotel, we passed all the restaurants nearby…people were laughing and enjoying their meals and I couldn’t help but regret our choice. Undoubtedly, it was delicious and we ate every bite, but it’s not worth the extra effort unless you’re already in the neighborhood or desire a neglectful experience.

Had this place recommended and as we rented bikes we drove from Porto to the village of the restaurant and was extremely lucky to get the last table for lunch outside. But unfortunately it also meant we had a lot of people standing around our table waiting to get a table during our meal, which was not nice. The menu had lots of nice choices and with the bigger fish they come and show you the beast before they prepare it for you. Also they prep it for you at the table (remove skin and bones). We had octopus and tuna salad for starter and both were delicious. We then shared a grilled swordfish with salad and it was great. The wine list was great with lots of wines in half bottles and we got a nice Douro white that was a great match. Before we were done with our starter they came with our next course, but then they left us alone so it was really hard to get hold of a waiter. We ordered 2 espressos and waited 45 min to get it. After 2 requests we got them and we had asked for the bill as well. Which came but then we were waiting to pay. In the end I got up and got a Waiter to take pay, Food was amazing but service really poor and atmosphere partly destroyed by multiple people surrounding our table while waiting for a table.

Sardines that were not very fresh, almost falling apart and undercooked. We complained to the employee who replied: "Whatever, the sardines are from Friday and today is Sunday, they couldn't be fresh!" Lunch late Feb. 2024 - Off-Season Following a local suggestion we did the expedition to Matosinhos – time consuming. Neighborhood was not exciting, to say it politely. Fresh fish grilled roadside – ok . . . Unambitious service to say it politely, limited “cuisine” - fresh from the griddle, done by helpers, no chefs though. Overall, we did we thought the hours were not well spent.

Very Tasty Seafood!

My husband and I, along with another couple, thoroughly enjoyed the very fresh fish, which we were able to choose for ourselves, accompanied with the tasty vegetables. As well we shared a bottle of “Vinho Verde”, a very light white wine produced in Portugal and a very delicious home made dessert. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience with wonderful service at an exceptionally good price!

We ordered 2 fish dishes. In the first, salmon, the good quality of the fish stands out, however, the vegetables that accompanied it were from lunchtime (confirmed by the employee) and extremely salty. The second dish, swordfish, was returned because the fish smelled a lot like AMMONIA, a clear sign of spoilage or poor conservation of the fish. The waitress who served us did not return to the table, having been unprofessional, busy chewing gum, the TV and cell phone messages. The owner was questioned for his passivity, as he did not go to the customer and, not even after being called to attention, was he able to make an apology! Naturally we pay for what we eat. However, someone has to explain to the owner that the so-called "punched potatoes" were never such, not in this or any other galaxy! I was a customer at the restaurant until yesterday. I will not be returning and I will also stop recommending it.

Best Fresh Fish

A fantastic selection of fresh fish. Once you have made your choice (for 2 ) they take the fish away and cook it on oven charcoal fire outside. Then it is returned to your table and professional fillited at your table. Served with mixed vegetables and potatoes. Even though it was quite a long taxi journey from Porto it was worth it.

We went to this restaurant on the recommendation of our Airbnb host who said that it is one of her favorite seafood restaurants around Porto. We are American and went together as a family. Based on reviews and the recommendation, we were very excited about the authentic Portuguese seafood experience. However, upon arriving the staff seemed rather off-put, almost uncomfortable with our presence. Although we would ask questions about the menu, we received very little guidance, and our waiter seemed extremely frustrated with us the entire time. The food was quite good; however, unfortunately, the service bordered on rude. I would still recommend this as a choice to experience authentic Portuguese seafood, although the culture of the restaurant did not feel especially kind toward tourists. If I had one word of advice to the restaurant: know your customer. We obviously don’t expect VIP treatment, but we are new to your culture and trying to learn - any kindness and guidance in learning the menu and customs is always appreciated.

The service was good, the starter was tasty. We cycled there because of the good reviews of the fish dishes. The preparation of the turbot was disappointing: the skin was too crispy, the inside was bland, too glassy and watery for our taste, probably because the turbot was grilled too hot.
