Hidden away in the quaint Algarve village of Porches, Porches Velho is worth seeking out for high quality food and a secluded country setting looking out to the Monchique Mountains. Housed in a 210-year-old wine cellar, Porches Velho has retained original features in the open plan dining room, including the wooden beams criss-crossing the 5-metre-high ceiling and the latticed windows that fill the room with the beautiful sunlight of the Algarve. The terrace is a splendid place to dine in the summer, whilst the wood fire in the hearth keeps the dining room warm in the winter. Surrounded by rustic farm tools and the huge aquarium of brightly coloured fish, you can enjoy a menu rich in Portuguese

As my title suggests - just like O Leao - they and you don't need another 5* to suggest this place is also a great place to eat. Velho and O Leao (along with Rolho wine bar) in Porches are so good that I cannot...not write to support and thank them again for wonderful food, drink and hospitality especially in this difficult time for tourism. They're just such nice people doing a great job that I felt I had to write something. Right opposite O Leao - Porches is a more affordable, more home cooked style of food. Hearty portion sizes and quick service are just a couple of pluses for the restaurant - again - order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed in terms of quality, quantity and flavour but DO save room for Mrs Candeias amazing homemade traditional desserts (if you don't it's ok - just go again!) Definitely try to make the time and trip to visit Porches and if you visit here, Rolho or O Leao you will not be disappointed! In fact as I think about it - for its size - Porches probably has the best concentration of fantastic food and wine places in the Algarve....More

We had a great time here: we chose for the restaurant’s specialties (1x ham and 1x fish in oven) and it was really delicious. The waiter and owner were such kind people! Make sure to leave a little space for the home-made desserts of the...lady of the house!More

Is it a wise decision to visit the very same restaurant several times while on vacation at the Algarve coast? I mean, you can try out so many restaurants in this region that are really worthwhile to go. However, while trying out those other restaurants,...my wife and me decided to take 4 dinners at Amandio Candeias’ “Porches Velho”. And we were offered the very best dishes you can get in southern Portugal. No matter if seafood, meat or fish – all meals were perfectly cooked and tasted extraordinary great. “Marvilhoso” was the most often used word we chose to express our fascination with the gastronomic performance of Amandio and his team. Our strategy with the menu was to select each time meals we haven’t tried out before, and we were never disappointed. Here are our favorites: as starters we highly recommend the Octopus Carpaccio, the Mussels à Bolhao Pato and the Fish Soup. As main dish don’t miss the Cataplana, the John Dory fish with orange sauce and Pork meat Alentejo style. As dessert explore the sensational Orange Pudding (which I ordered twice, thus traversing our own strategy). And please trust the waiter’s wine recommendations that will fit best to your dish of choice. Make a reservation in advance and take time to chat with Amandio and the waiters. They are attentive, friendly and happy to safely host guests after the long lockdown due to Corona. We already miss them.More

Porches Velho is a genuine Portuguese restaurant with large dining room in an old wine cellar that is over 200 years old. During our four and a half weeks stay at Amendoeira Golf Resort in Alcantarilha we had two dinners here. On the first time...I came here with my wife to make sure that the restaurant is a convenient place to celebrate our friend’s birthday (70 years) a few days later. My starter was Fried shrimps in olive oil with garlic and piripiri. My wife ordered Mackerel fillets marinated Algarvian style. Both of us ordered Lamb shank from the Specialities menu for mains. It was tender and melted in our mouths. Our desserts were Almond cake and Orange cake. Everything was so delicious that without any doubt Porches Velho was chosen as the birthday venue. The birthday hero and two other friends joined us for the birthday party. We started with a bottle of good Portuguese sparkling wine. Based on our previous visit our recommendation for the mains was Lamb shank. The day hero followed our suggestion. She liked Lamb shank very much. The others chose the Octopus dish from the Specialities menu. The dishes were accompanied with excellent red wine Adega Mayor Reserva from Alentejo. All five of us were unanimous in the choice of desserts. We chose Orange tart. Every dish was tasty, fresh and cooked to perfection. Our second visit was just as enjoyable as the first. Porches Velho is a restaurant with delicious food, good wines, great ambience with white walls, beautiful decor and a wood fire and one of most attentive services we have met in the Algarve. Highly recommended!More

We joined two friends for Valentine's day and expected to pay a premium. The menu was their normal choice which was excellent. A very wide range of Portuguese and International dishes with the Michelin star vibe. The food was serrved on very hot plates and...sent back empty by everyone. The Service was attentive but not imposing. A venue we will be returning to which has now become "our first choice favourite for special meals"More

Hi - I can't remember exactly but I would also say around 70 € for 2 people (starters, main plus drinks). I also still thoroughly recommend the restaurant.

I agree. Staff will probably do whatever they can to accommodate. I'd say it is a pretty safe bet.
