About
Hidden away in the quaint Algarve village of Porches, Porches Velho is worth seeking out for high quality food and a secluded country setting looking out to the Monchique Mountains. Housed in a 210-year-old wine cellar, Porches Velho has retained original features in the open plan dining room, including the wooden beams criss-crossing the 5-metre-high ceiling and the latticed windows that fill the room with the beautiful sunlight of the Algarve. The terrace is a splendid place to dine in the summer, whilst the wood fire in the hearth keeps the dining room warm in the winter. Surrounded by rustic farm tools and the huge aquarium of brightly coloured fish, you can enjoy a menu rich in Portuguese

My wife and I had dinner here in August 2022. We were staying at Vilalara in Porches a short drive away. She had tiger prawns and I the veal shanks special both of which were outstanding. Wine and deserts also very good. Very reasonable prices even...though there were separate charges for bread, water and small service fee. Indoor or rear patio great atmosphere. Wonderful service.More

Highly recommend eating at Porches Velho, which features a small menu crafted with authentic Portuguese dishes. Lovely dining room which was a former wine cellar, and also an outdoor terrace, weather permitting. Absolutely loved the codfish a brais, Grilled prawns with piri piri sauce, sirloin...steak , and delicious seafood stew ! Genuine hospitality provided by Cashius & Victor, delightful fellows. And don’t miss out on the fine dessert cart to end your night. Located in a quiet street in town, well worth the visit & Reasonably priced. ⭐️⭐️⭐️More

Great food, great service, great overall experience! The Sheff came over to our table and explained the menu and made excellent recommendations for us from its typical Portuguese menu. I recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Portugal!

It is a few years since we have been at this restaurant - same owner for the last 19 years. Years ago it was excellent and it still has the same high standards of food and service. It serves traditional Portuguese food - one will...not be disappointed.More

A strange barn of a place, serving reasonable quality food. We have been here twice but did not feel too positive either time - although the food was OK and the service fine.

Booked this restaurant for Thursday 23 September while sitting on the plane 24 hours earlier. Quickly confirmed and efficiently dealt with. Arrived about fifteen minutes early and shown to table (6) where service was excellent. A number of us went for the shrimps starter and...the lamb shank for mains. Very pleasant sweets all round . Summarising, we were really pleased with our meals which were at a decent price. Recommended.More

Great ambiance and a wonderful host. Delicious food and a good house wine. The only disappointment is that they advertise Fado on Friday nights but there was none on the night we went and that was the reason we chose this restaurant.

Located in the village of Porches, which is worth a stroll around, this restaurant serves delicious Portuguese dishes. The atmosphere is excellent in this old building including the terrace. The inside of this former tall wine cellar still has the original roof, resulting in a...warm ambience. The service by the owner and his team is excellent and rounds up a great local dining experience.More

I went to the restaurant with my fiancé on the last week of July 2021. We were welcomed by a very kind waiter who let us stay outside at a very romantic table where you can see a little bit of landscape. My fiancé doesn’t...eat fish so she ordered beef with potatoes. I took a shrimp cocktail and a sea bream with rice and vegetables. The food tasted really really really (x10) good and we really enjoyed our dinner. The waiter always came to our table to pour our water and to ask us if everything was ok. We also ordered a cake as dessert and enjoyed it. We paid €62 approximately without wine. Although the price was a little bit higher than expected (approximately 8 euro of cover charge) and the cover charge was billed to us without explicit requirement, I would definitely come back for one more dinner. Really good atmosfere, really good food and really kind people.More

This is a really great restaurant in the centre of Old Porches. The outside dining area is well looked after and uses table linen rather than cheap paper,if you eat inside you are sat in a fantastic space with lots of interesting old tools on the...walls.The menu is not large but what is cooked is delicious at a fair price. The convert is one of the best we have had in Portugal and the wine list is reasonable with a bottle of house wine starting at under €14.There are not many restaurants in Porches and I would highly recommend this oneMore

I went with my 7 year old son and the bill totaled about 85 euros with starters main and dessert. I didn't have alcohol. I still would recommend despite being pricey.

I agree. Staff will probably do whatever they can to accommodate. I'd say it is a pretty safe bet.
