Best restaurant in Gerakini

Excellent food, great service and atmosphere and average to below prices. It's the best overall restaurant in Gerakini. Everything on the menu tastes great and the waiters are extremely friendly. The free desert is a nice bonus and also tastes great.

Amazing service and food

Brilliant. The service was fast, funny and quite on point. The waiters speak english really well and enjoy talking to the customers. The food was also really good, well seasoned and anything you could have asked for from a greek restaurant. I would definetly recommed checking Mouragio out if you are on vacation in Halkidiki.

Lovely traditional taverna

Lovely traditional Greek taverna which we ate at as part of the dine out option at Ikos Olivia. We asked the hotel staff which was the best dine out option and they all said it was Mouragio and we even saw some of them eating there that night. We were recommended a dish (fried feta with sesame and honey - really tasty) as a starter which wasn’t on the menu but they prepared it for us for no extra charge. The other food was equally delicious. The host was incredibly welcoming and kind and the whole experience eating beneath their vast vines was lovely.

What a disappointment

After reading the excellent reviews we were looking forward to eating at Mouragio. The restaurant always seemed busy, a good sign. One of our party doesn’t eat potatoes, so we asked politely if any dish came or could come with rice; the answer was a straight no. The starters were ok, nothing special. My husband and son in law ordered steak. My husband’s was tough but he ate it. My son in law’s was so tough he could hardly cut it, and, although he really didn’t want to complain he had no choice. His second steak wasn’t much better. My chicken dish was lovely but one of our party asked for a sauce to go with her pork chop (it was a little dry and over cooked - she didn’t complain) and again was told no, even though my chicken was served with a lovely sauce. One of the waiters saw a packet of cigarettes on the table and asked if he could have one! He was given one. We went to 4 other restaurants during our time in Gerakini and Mouragio was the only one to disappoint both in terms of food and service.

Disappointing!

Went here as part of the Ikos dine out arrangement. We were not impressed. There was quite a big group of local men, many of whom were smoking. Of course it’s legal since, technically, we were outside. In reality the foliage made it feel very much like we were inside and the smoke smell was unpleasant. To start with, the owner made us feel a bit of an inconvenience, with little in the way of a friendly welcome. We were given a restricted menu, which was in stark contrast to the Ikos offerings. We were given a plate of five thick pieces of toast, which were dry and cold. I think it was supposed to be garlic bread. I had fried courgettes with a garlic sauce, which was gloopy and spilling off the plate. My wife had the aubergine croquettes, which were primarily cheese. Our plates were whipped away when we had barely finished because our main courses were ready! We’d both gone for the swordfish, which actually wasn’t bad although all we got with it was a small Greek salad. These plates were taken and the pudding brought out. There was no choice, and I’m not sure what it was apart from covered in cinnamon? In terms of wine, we were told there was a choice of red, white or rose. We weren’t offered a list of any kind. We both went for rose, which was a bit rough and barely drinkable. The whole thing had taken less than an hour. We didn’t wait to see if coffee was to be offered and just walked out. We certainly wouldn’t go back.

Couldn't fault a thing.

Kalispera! Thank you for a fantastic Greek experience! We booked our table through Ikos Olivia for the 5th night of our holiday. Super easy to find, super clean, beautiful decor and for us prompt service. The food was absolutely fantastic. The flavour, portion and choice, just amazing. We were served by a man who had the friendliest personality and just cares for us completely during our visit. Definitely a place to visit through Ikos Olivia or as general outside guests.

Try the salad!

We decided to try here after seeing such great reviews. We were unsure on what to try so we ordered the mixed grill, the God's salad and the courgette chips. We could not fault anything. We are usually serious meat eaters and although the mixed grill was delicious our favourite dish was the salad. All the ingredients were so fresh and full of flavour. We tried the dessert on offer despite being very full and we are glad we did. Thankfully it was a smaller portion but with plenty of flavour to top the meal off just right.

Pathetic Staff

The staff is ridiculous. We went for a late lunch with my husband and son and the moment my child sat at a table, we were “greeted” with the words that most tables were booked. They were not. We were directed to a very tiny table in the corner - obviously, we did not deserve a normal table in the waiter’s view. It was done in a very rude way but my son was hungry so we decided to sit anywhere. We were almost at the table the first one suggested when another “polite” waiter came to us shouting that table was reserved too. We left, and to be honest, looking at the photos of the food, the awful service would be the least we would have to put up with.

Good honest taverna

We dined here as part of the Ikos Dine Around scheme which allows guests at the ultra all-inclusive resort to experience local cuisine as well as supporting local businesses. We were welcomed warmly by the owner who showed us to our table and helped us choose a selection of starters and mains. All the dishes were freshly prepared and delicious. Portion sizes were ample and we could have ordered as much as we wanted. We recommend Mouragio to anyone wanting to experience a typical Greek taverna. You won't be disappointed!

DINE OUT EXPERIENCE

We had the dine out experience with IKOS and enjoyed the change of scenery. An authentic Greek Restuarant. Unfortunately, the portion sizes were quite big, and I didn't manage to eat all of mine. It is a different menu if you are staying at IKOS but of course, you could eat there if you wished instead of staying in the hotel the whole time and have the full menu.

Local taverna

This taverna is part of the Dine around facility offered by Ikos Olivia. The menu offered is a separate Dine around menu as opposed to the full menu but there is an adequate choice of dishes, wines and beers to produce a good experience. I would have preferred to eat later although it appeared all those who were on the Dine around package were given early times but that is just a minor suggestion for the future.

Great fresh food and service

Had a lovely meal in this beautiful taverna. Started with Greek meze with was a meal in itself.. stuffed vine leaves, feta and courgette fritta, tzatiki and cheese dips, fried zucchini. Great service, especially Yona who looked after us. Well recommended

Nearly The Traditional Taverna We Lust After

Like lots of the other reviews we were here as part of the IKOS eat out scheme. When we are holidaying in Greece we are continually searching for the traditional tavernas we remember from our island hopping days in the 80s. Sadly we are usually disappointed with tourist demands leading to restaurants that are more international than traditional. Mouragio has the feel of an old fashioned taverna and largely delivered for us. Tsatsiki, taramasalata, brined anchovies and saganaki cheese hit the spot followed by grilled squid and pork souvlaki. We (well actually I) washed it down with a bottle of perfectly quaffable house white. Not exactly what we remember of great tavernas but close.

Lovely Taverna

This is a great Taverna. Lovely seated area covered in vines, friendly service and a nice menu. Options were great and we were happy clients. However, if you’re coming here on the Ikos package the limited menu offered definitely doesn’t do the taverna justice - mezzo style starters are wonderful, main courses are very limited though and there is only one desert which is crazy. So hoping Ikos sorts this out pronto.

Good local food - shame about the cats!

We ate here last week and enjoyed the food, which was simple but well presented and tasty. Problem for us was the number of cats which seemed out of control. One even lifted its tail at our table and sprayed my jacket! While cats are common in Greek restaurants, the situation here, if found in UK, would have led to the immediate closure of the restaurant on health and hygiene grounds.
