The food is wonderful including the steak and the chicken it’s so good. The chef, santi is solo when he cooks and sometimes someone helps him. It’s a great place just above Saint Gervais. It’s lovely Argentine food. One of the best places I’ve been....The service is wonderful. The atmosphere is so good with just if you go down the mountain you have a wonderful view of Mont Blanc. We had a fantastic meal at la taniere, where we were made to feel hugely welcome and had a wonderful table in the sunshine surrounded by the mountains. I had the most interesting vegetarian salad with loads of fresh vegetables, egg and cheese. It was...delicious. My family all went for the steak and chips which they said was great and my daughter loved the homemade apple crumble. An excellent restaurant which I highly recommend.More
We went twice during our ski -week in Les Housches for lunch to this "hidden gem". Both times we had the delicious Entrecôte from Argentina with homemade fries as well as great starters and home made desserts. The meat is very tender, it just melts...in your mouth. Staff are so friendly and almost everything is home made. They have a lovely terrace in the sun. If you prefer to sit inside, there is a cosy fire place. First time we skied here - it was a bit tricky to find- but don't give up- it is worth it! You just need to find the piste/slope "Plan du Cret". Second time we took the car and parked in Parking des Toilles in Saint Gervais and then walked to the restaurant. It is a 30 minutes walk uphill. We will soon be back, it is the best restaurant on the slopes in the area- the staff and welcome is fantastic- A très bientôtMore
We had the best night with Sante , Great food, great atmosphere, kind, funny the best company and meal we have had in France ever! Worth the hike up the hill you won't regret a step .. we will be back
A friend arranged a meal for a group of about 15. The majority chose the steak. Having eaten the meal the comments ranged from, "fabulous", to "that's the best steak I have ever had". Firstly I must admit that the loss of a star is due to how busy this restaurant gets, just that bit too crowded to be atmospheric. In practice the staff deserve a star for doing there best to please everyone. be sure to call ahead, there was a group who hiked up with snow shoes. Late in the season they were not open most evenings.
We have been visiting this restaurant for over ten years now. Its one of the reasons that we keep returning to The Chamonix region. Part of the appeal is that it’s a nail biting ski down (for solid intermediates) followed by a short groomed and...flat off piste trek and an even more challenging button ride back up but thats all part of the thrill. That is also one of the main reasons why it isnt packed all the time. Only a small percentage of visitors to les Houches even know it exists. Its plat du jour is always, in our experience, fabulous and fresh, whilst its signature dish is the steak. As you would expect from a Angentian native, Louise, the restaurants owner, knows how to deliver a fine steak. And the memory of the taste of her Argentian Malbec, savoured in the Alpine sun, stays with us long after the trip itself. We have nothing but fine memories of this place. Go on. A great place to come when skiing in St Gervais / Les Houches area. Always a great welcome, excellent food from Louisa and some great wines . Lovely atmosphere and getting back down on skis or by sledge in the dark is always fun !...This restaurant is in St Gervais - not Les Houches as some people think ! Yes you can get the ski lift from Les Houches ( Belleville or Prarion lift) and ski into St Gervais on the same list pass. Or take the Tramway du Mont Blanc from St Gervais , to the Col de Voza then ski to the restaurant. Saying La Taniere is in Les Houches is like saying Mont Blanc is in Chamonix . On a lovely hike via Col de la Forclaz we stopped at La Taniere for lunch. The lunch prepared and served by Louise was amazing. Fresh, honest, tasty, home cooked food - it was so good we just had to order dessert even though we...had some more hiking to do! The homemade apple and berry crumble was so delicious - the best I've ever tasted. We had a nice chat with Louise before we left and complimented her on her amazing food. What a gem! Amazing food and such lovely staff. Hidden on the slopes but totally worth the visit. Best meal we had on our short trip and will definitely come back for the apple crumble alone
