This was my second visit to this interesting restaurant which is situated right in a limestone cave. Each time we ate excellent hearty meals in a fine dining situation. We were a group of 9 ladies this time and every one of us enjoyed the...food, excellent service and the charm of the cave. Although the menu is a little limited, it covered all our likes and we loved the freshness of the local fish, meat and ample vegetables. We had excellent attentive service and our food came out quickly considering we were a large group.More
We were guests for lunch and found the meal and service to be tops! Located in the lovely town of Turquant and then inside of a Troglodytique (cave)! Such and interesting and surprising and comfortable setting.
We had a superb meal and the service was...excellent, even with a full lunch crowd. (So do call for a reservation 02 41 51 22 28)
Lunch is never hit and run in France so be prepared for leisure.
Fish and meat were both delicious and a fine wine list. We will definitely be coming back!More
The menu is fairly limited, about six entrees, main courses and desserts; it is not cheap (about €35 for three course) but all the food we had was very good: extremely well prepared from high quality ingredients and interesting, we felt it was worth it....The wine, however was overpriced in our opinion. We also liked the atmosphere, eating in a cave was a good talking point- a good job.
The service though was very poor: we were asked if we wanted an aperitif, said no, and then waited about 30 minutes to have our order taken, the starter arrived fairly quickly but we then waited almost another hour for our main course (and that was after 'reminding' them twice), a further gap for dessert. I do not expect or want fast food in a French restaurant, but this was too much - and the chairs are not comfortable. The main problem was that there was a group of 20 who were clearly the focus of the staff's attention, but they must have been expecting them and the restaurant was not full, also other couples who came in after us were served quicker, frankly we felt ignored. When it came to leave I wished the head waiter 'bonne soiree' and received no reply.
A restaurant is about more than just good food and drink and in our experience l'Helianthe really needs to consider this.More
So pleased to find somewhere open on Monday in the area and the ambiance and service were excellent, set in a cave with easy parking nearby. Said to be veggie friendly but in truth there was only one veggie main dish based on mushrooms. Well...it is the area for them and they are very much in season. Beautifully presented but we did not particularly like the flavour and would not have this dish again. We asked if the veggie choice would vary and were told no, not while they are in season.Which means if we went again would have to eat from the two veggie choices in the starters menu. Not easy being vegetarian in France!More
It was a Monday, our last day in France and it looked like lunch was not going to happen. Then we found L'Helianthe, it was open! As pescetarians our choice was limited, but we enjoyed our meal . The highlight was the regional rose recommended...by the waiter and dessert. The staff were friendly, the restaurant had ambience and we were grateful that it was open on a MondayMore
We ate here one night in October 2018. The food was decent. The waitress was about 18 and had a bored attitude. The place itself was pretty with the white stone typical of the area. My wife liked the place more than I did. I...would not come again, but it was adequate.More
