A medieval Down of Loket is not registered in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list by accident. In the past Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad in German) belonged administratively to this town. The famous Czech king Charles IV, who, according to a legend, took place in hunting a deer and found mineral springs, came there from the Castleof Loket (Elbogen in German). The house where the restaurant of ,,Staroslovanská Kuchyně" is situated is one of the oldest houses in the town.

Their motto is dine like your ancestors in the middle ages and they surely put a serious effort into this including hanging old innerwears over the fireplace.
Food-wise it is really good. The portions are generous and their own beer is really good. I wi Definitely go back for their grilled potatoes. The menu has good variety with pork, chicken and beef. Location is also very convenient just at the footstep of Loket's major attraction Loket castle.

We traveled to a number of cities in the Czech Republic. We stopped in Loket to see the castle. And then have lunch. The choice fell on this restaurant: proximity to the center, proximity to the castle. There was no table for seven - they offered a table on the second floor. Goulash soup in bread, lamb with vegetables, beer and so on. The average bill is about 20 euros. The disadvantage of the tables on the second floor is the sight of restaurant visitors going to the toilet.

First warning flag was already when I tried to call to the restaurant to book a table for four. There was no answer, only a song playing out of the speakers. We came to the spot anyway. Then I waited a little before someone noticed me. The communication was okay but it was a bit harder since none of the staff speaks fluent Czech. However we got our freshly cleaned table. The insides of the restaurant isn't anything special but doesn't offend either.
There are not many meals to choose from but I think nobody will have trouble to pick one.
The waitress was nice and took our orders pretty quickly. Having a dog inside isn't a problem, she even offered a water for him.
But then we waited. And waited. The drinks came after 15 minutes. I can recommend the beer here though! And the food came after another 45 minutes. It was so long time and the meals weren't that complicated. We had 2x Pirogy, one "Knight's plate with chicken meat" and one "Knight's plate with pork meat". The Pirogy were unfortunately poor. When some restaurant calls itself "Old Slavic" the Pirogy, which is a cornerstone of old slavic cuisine, should be perfect. Unfortunately they were so bland. The best meal we had out there was the chicken plate. Absolutely delicious! Worth trying. But the prices didn't meet the quality and the taste of the food. I'm sorry.
The reason I give this spot only 2/5 is because it's so overrated in reviews, because we've waited so long and because the higher prices.

I don't understand the good reviews on the internet. The food was bad... Service was good, no problem, but if you want to eat well, you should go somewhere else!!! At the price level, which is not excessive, there are much better places in Karlovy Vary

I haven't try food at this place yet but, they have very good cocktails and beers.. Also stuffs are very nice and polite.A real pleasant change from Cisk and excellent food to boot!

Who rated this place on 5?! Come on... Only the owner friends could do it...
There was 6 of us (4 adults and 2 kids) during our visit. We tried almoust all menu (main dishes). The vegetarian food was acceptable but acceptable only. All meat dishes were oversalted. The chicken and pork was suppose to be smoked. But "it was suppose to be" my pork was half-raw and I was struggling to eat it (at the moment I regret I did it as I'm struggling with my stomach now).
The service was fair. But the reason might be that we were the only clients... Althought it was quite strange for me as the waiter did not spoke czech or english eventually - he was talking to us in russian all the time (besides "nashledanou" maybe). As we had 1 starter, 2 soups, 4 main and 5 drinks - we payed ca 2k czech crowns. A way too much for this "attraction".
I disrecomend it totally!

The author is registered in Szczecin (Poland). But out of his 18 reviews on tripadvisor, only one is written about Poland (Poznan).
I think it is no coincidence that he did not write a single word about Szczecin’s hometown.
Maybe he fears that there he will have to answer for the written lie.
Prices in our restaurant are lower than those of competitors. On average, it is 200-300 crowns per person.
The owner himself serves in the restaurant. He has been working in the Czech Republic for over 6 years. That is, the author from the Polish city of Szczecin claims that he speaks Czech. And a person who has worked in the Czech Republic for 6 years does not speak Czech?
I think this statement is absurd. As well as his other statements.

Really recommend this place for lunch/dinner after visiting castle. Great location, very nice waiter - actually he is an owner. He described how he manage it and built it. from where he brought plates etc. He even said to chef how to cook food. very nice. I would come back when will visit castle again!
