This pub has the correct name. We visited in June and as we arrived a guest was querying the bill but I didn't give this any thought at the time. When we asked for the bill we were overcharged by £17 !! Luckily I noticed and queried the bill ... We will not be going back to this pub. Food... More

Stopped here by accident whilst biking wround, but pleasantly surprised as the Highwayman is a very nice pub/restaurant! Owner David was immensely friendly, the food was excellent and lots of variation, lovely garden to enjoy the sun away from the roads, very welcoming inside too. I will definitely be going again when we pass through next time!

We, finally, visited for lunch having driven past hundreds of times. The rear extention is impressive (particularly internally) but we were disappointed with the food. There was nothing wrong with it but the starters lacked some seasoning and the veg served with the "mains" was sparse - just one small new potato each. Overall we concluded that the Highwayman was... First time visit to The Highwayman following some research on Trip Advisor. Could not have been made more welcome by David and Olga (especially David who loved my 1974 MGB!!). Upon arrival we were offered drinks and invited to sit in the bar area whilst perusing the food menu. Ordered from the bar and were led through to the dining... More

We stopped at The Highwayman on the way to Stonham Barns. What a charming place, the staff were lovely and great with the kids & the food was fab. I hope it's not TMI but the ladies loos were the cleanest I've seen in a pub. We are from out the area but if we visited again we would definately... More

First time visitors to the pub. Greeted by the friendly landlord and ordered drinks (limited rage but okay) then ordered food when the rest of the group arrived. The menu was a bit limited and quite mushroom heavy but we all found something to try. We were guided through to the restaurant when the food was ready and everyone enjoyed... More

We have been regular customers for many years. The landlord is very friendly and welcoming and particularly helpful when we have taken infirm friends or family members there for a meal. We really don't consider that some of the previous comments regarding the landlord can be justified, based on our experience. Apart from the wonderful food, the main reason we... More

Description
A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
