We stopped here on our way to Norfolk and were warmly welcomed by the licencee. The staff were attentive and the menu was comprehensive and not over priced. Our food was delicious and promptly served. Would certainly return when next passing by.

Thoroughly enjoyable lunch enjoyed by five of us on Sunday 16 October. David is the perfect host and made us all feel extremely welcome, a proper landlord. The roast dinner was beautiful and very well priced. Mum is a wheelchair user and was accommodated perfectly, she was most impressed with the visit.

Dined here for a Saturday lunch in transit from Norwich to Essex. The licensee was very accomodating and helpful. I believe his wife is the chef and our meals were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and my daughter salivated over the sticky toffee pudding.

The environment is nice but obviously a new build trying to be old. The service was incredibly slow from the moment of entering. The poor waitress was doing all she could to keep up yet the food coming out of the kitchen was so slow. The manager clearly needs to get to grips with this as when it did arrive... More

We just visited the pub for lunch on the way to Norwich, the host was very friendly and we had lovely baguettes which were good value. Would definitely recommend for a stop.

We were staying at the Travelodge just down from this pub and found this restaurant by chance. The food was first class with mine host friendly. T bone steak done to perfection and very well cooked. (Medium) Pie with proper pastry on top not just a piece plonked on to was VERY good indeed. If we are in the area... More

Nestling on the A140 on the way to Norwich this great restaurant is well worth a visit, I have eaten there on numerous occasions. it has a great atmosphere and a super menu lovingly prepared and presented., It is easy to drive past and miss it which is a shame on every count.

Stopped here for lunch outside as we had our two dogs with us. Smoked salmon baguettes and salad were excellent. The dogs were given a treat by Olga the lovely landlady who gave them each a plate of roast beef, ham and vegetables which needless to say they wolfed down.

I had an amazing dinner at The Highwayman last night with my sister. I had half pint of prawns and chili mayo to start with and Nicky had the smoked fish platter - so good. then I had the rib eye and Nicky had the Pork, both so delicious. I used to visit with my father and so it will... More

We Visited The Highwayman today for lunch. We were greeted well, various options were explained to us and drinks provided. There is a good choice on the menu as well as plenty of "Specials" , so we soon made our choices and the food came quickly. Generous portions, which left both of us struggling to clear our plates. I had... More

A friendly family welcome is extended to all who visit The Highwayman, a grade II listed 17th century timber framed building that has been sympathetically extended. Located on the A140, just a few minutes outside Ipswich, Needham Market and Stowmarket in Suffolk, The Highwayman is easily accessible and an ideal meeting point for all occasions.David & Olga took over the running of The Highwayman restaurant in Ipswich in October 2004 and warmly welcome everyone to sample the honest homecooked food, a good selection and well kept real ales. The main restaurant and galleries provide a traditional and relaxing atmosphere in the which to dine amongst soft lighting that compliments the exposed oak frame of the building. Our food is all about the ingredients which, whenever possible, are locally sourced, seasonal and always freshly prepared. In particular a relaxing Sunday lunchtime at The Highwayman is sure to become a tradition. Tuck into roast rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
