We reserved the venue for a private event to celebrate a wedding anniversary and it was amazing. The group had some difficult dietary needs, including gluten free and dairy free foods, and the support from the staff was amazing. The level of attention to the dietary needs was exemplary and the closest experience I have had anywhere else was in... More

My daughter loves visiting the station and having lunch in the cafe and we always receive a warm welcome. On this visit they were having trouble with their electronic tills but this did not stop the cafe from functioning but they went back to the old fashioned method of writing things down and taking it on foot to the kitchen,... On arrival, our friend who is has a mobility scooter, found everyone very helpful & accommodating in finding a suitable table where he wouldn't cause obstruction. We did not have a full meal, however the scones & tea were excellent, a little on the down side, we found on trying to park only a few disabled spaces & it was... More

The refreshment room as well as being the room as per Brief Encounter is a bit of nostalgia as to what British Rail refreshment rooms used to look like. We chose to have two cups of coffee (not tea) and shared a scone which meant the brief visit was very cheap. There was some old fashioned trolleys with cases to... More

I loved this little station and the refreshment room was really fabulous - the only thing missing was the smoke from the trains and probably the smoke from other patrons back in the day. The cup of tea was really good but I think this owes something to the water. The exhibitions and films are interesting and the little shop... More

We visit the Brief Encounter experience every time we stay in Silverdale (stocking up on tea-towels and mugs). Try the home-made soups for lunch.

This is most certainly not a railways refreshment room like others on the railway network! For a start it is in an interesting building - modelled on the refreshment room featuring in the 1945 film Brief Encounter. Many of the food items are prepared on site to 1960s menus. We had excellent sandwiches - and were sorely tempted by the... More

Its a serene spot; hotchpotch of exhibits that are wonderful to pick through and a lunchtime snack as far removed from Costa/Starbucks as is possible! A lovely visit seems a shame to go back out into the 21st century...

Nice place. Good food. Ham in a vegetarian panini. Bit pricey for the small portions but its a honeypot for the B.E film generation.

Sit in this evocative location and imagine the film setting - or just relive the steam days of old. The room still has the features of old, yet the food and drinks are mouthwateringly good.

The Visitor Centre, Carnforth Station. A film, Brief Encounter, was filmed here in 1945 and the part of the station used in the film has been refurbished and there is a museum, attracting not only film but train buffs. Visitors flock to the refreshment room where, in the film, most of the action took place.
