We fell in love the minute we walked onto the terrace and saw the view.....but it was all down hill from there. We have spent many months over the years visiting the Tuscany & Umbria regions and enjoy exploring the hill towns and local villages....I would consider us fairly well traveled guests and we have experienced many different dinning venues during the years. Unfortunately this was one of the worst meals we have had in all of Italy. While the restaurant was not overly busy the staff showed very little interest in you as a customer. The starters where small and over priced compared to other area establishments and the Burnello offered by the glass at 16 euro for a medium pour was average at best. The main courses where all disappointing from the pasta dishes which had no taste and were over cooked to the fish of the day which was also tasteless and all of our dishes where cool vs. hot when served. Of the 4 meals we only finished one. The serving staff never came over to check on us once they brought out the main course. They never refilled either our water or asked if we like more wine not at anytime did anyone ask how our meal was even when paying the bill and closing the check. Other tables around us also had non finished meals and it was not because of portion size. I really wanted to like the meal and for what we paid I tired but the food was tasteless, cool and just not good. This was not the norm for all of Italy, usually if the meal is off the service is on but not today. Our bill for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 pasta (with 3 glasses of wine) 150 Euro over priced for what we received. Save your money and go someplace else.More

Average food served in big plates to look pretentious. Service a bit too quick, to make sure we leave the table for the real customers, who probably don't mind spending 10 euro on a half empty glass of prosecco. The view is nice if you...make it to the first seats, but based on our looks we weren't considered worth it, even if the place was half empty 😐 The toilet door was locked and we needed to find somebody from the stuff to open it for us.More

Great view, decent food and poor service. We had pizza and cured meats. Somewhat overpriced. It is aimed at tourists. Our neighbors table simply left after 20 mins

I had dinner at La Terrazza del Chiostro twice during my stay in Pienza and in both occasions I observed the following: - the staff is extremely slow (even for Italian standards - and FYI I am Italian). A table next to ours was complaining...it had been waiting for 30 minutes for the change - some members of the staff are quite incompetent. I have asked which types of cheese were put in the Pici cacio & pepe and the waiter couldn’t answer. I suppose that one should know what the traditional dishes of the area and the restaurant she/he works for are made of (which is not even hard, because it’s just a mix of cheeses, pepper and pasta) - some members of the staff are too informal. Whilst I was having dinner, just a couple of feet from our table, three members of the staff started to speak about mistakes that were made by the staff itself vis à vis customers and were also telling to each other about episodes in which - according to them - customers had been very rude. I think it’s great to discuss about takeaways/lessons learned...maybe not in front of other customers. - since we were staying in the hotel adjacent the restaurant, we were told that a 15% discount would apply to our bill even if we didn’t take the 3 course menu (which is normally the rule). However this discount wasn’t applied even if I have asked the waiter if he could check the bill if everything was alright hoping that the hint could make him realize the discount wasn’t applied. (My boyfriend didn’t want to make a scene...) - on top of that, the waiter that was taking care of our table was coughing a lot - which is something that during covid-19 times can really ruin your night out Finally, the bill was quite pricey. I suppose that you pay a bit extra for the incredible view - because the food / wine really didn’t deserve it.More

The view was amazing. We ordered a pizza that was absolutely horrible. Both of our pizzas were basically wet and not well cooked at all. The ingredients were not tasty and it seemed like a bake off pizza from the supermarket. The service was horrible,...they were rushing into everything, we asked for 5 more minutes to see what we wanted to eat and the waiter just stood there next to our table like “ oh allora, come on order”. The pizza arrived 5 minutes later. We planned on having a nice night out, and ate basically in 30 minutes. Living in Italy with my Italian partner since 6 years, but this is the worst place ever eaten. Just don’t go.More

When we were here last it was a fancier restaurant so my husband and I were a bit disappointed to find it had become a pizzeria the view from the terrace had not changed and remains breathtaking. Our children were delighted with the pizza’s, as...were we. Probably the classiest pizzeria to be found in Tuscany!!More

The terrace is spectacular but it was cool so we dined inside. The room is very large and has a high barrel like ceiling. Decor is minimal but they cleverly used door and window shutters alongside modern landscape painting on photographs. The sound echos round...so it was quite noisy once people started chatting. Service was excellent as was the food. Interesting starter, caramelised red onion tart, and main was a plate of pork with a grissini crust, vegetables were seasonal but minimal. We were with friends so had a pleasant evening together.More

We had lunch here earlier today. The view from the terrace of this restaurant is magnificent; one of the best in Tuscany. The setting is fine dining with white linen table clothes and napkins. The food was outstanding. We had filet of cod, veal cheek,...risotto and a pasta dish. The service was friendly and impeccable. You get what you pay for.More

The views are incredible! Food is average, but service was not as expected. They were in a hurry to get you out as soon as poosible. Removed table clips in the middle of the meal, turned of lights and when we commented this they said...they had to prepare for breakfast. The clock was not even 9.15... the t bone steak was quite expensive but no characteristic taste. The best experience was the poached egg. This place have to improve food and service.More

I am obviously not the first person to be critical of this restaurant. We were staying in the hotel which is apparently under separate ownership from the restaurant. With such a lovely terrace it is an obvious place to enjoy a sundowner. However you have...to struggle to find somebody to serve you. No price menu offered so it comes as something of a shock to find you have paid 10 euros for a glass of very mediocre house white wine. When querying the price I was told that they were doing a favour serving us at all and that this was one of the best places to eat in Tuscany. Well excuse me! The rat that kept us company during our evening drink was the least of our complaints. Find somewhere else to have that sundowner. There is a very nice bar next door!More

It is a great location, but the food is pretty disappointing. The menu is short enough, but apparently the chef cannot put himself to put enough effort in preparing. We had zucchini flowers which were average. My wife had a mediocre pici (the prime local...dish) and me myself tagliata. The tagliata was no good in any way. Apart from the view, stay away from the food here.More

My wife had only a lunch of salmon, I had tortelinni (only 6 pieces), each had a glass of wine and only 1 dessert- total price over $80 at lunch. Way too costly, quality was average, service poor but views excellent. I left hungry. In...total, small portions and poor value.More
