We were walking on the streets of Pienza and got tired, so we wanted to sit down, have a snack and drink some wine. Well, this is just the right place to do this. They don’t serve pasta, only wine, platters and warm sandwiches. They...also have dessert. My husband had a cold meat platter, and I enjoyed a wonderful red wine: Brunello di Montalcino. The best think about this little restaurant is that there are 4 small tables outside and due to the location, you sit in the shadow of the buildings.More

We travel to Tuscany each year for our summer break and each year we go to Pienza for three reasons. 1) The lovely ness of the the little town and the spectaular views, 2) To get our original Pienza Pecorino from a small cheese shop....and 3) To have lunch at this lovely little bistro. We usually have a couple of glasses of different wines to try the difference with the food, and a plate of meats and one of cheeses between the two of us. Ideal for a light local lunch. Note this is a small bistro, they do not serve cooked food (pasta) and they do not serve wine without food. This is perfectly reasonable, it is clearly marked on the menu that they do not serve heavier dishes. It is not quite as clear that you do have to have something to eat with your wine - but this is a fact of life in Italy if you go to a bistro - they are not a pub or an off licence - it is the same in other mediteranean countries (OK in some they serve Tapas type snack with the cost built into the drink) but this is Pienza, the heart of the Pecorino cheese and a jewel in Chianti with local wines to rival the best in the world. If you want to drink here then for licence reasons you have to eat, to taste the wine properly you have to eat with it - its simple. It is disappointing to be sat enjoying lunch and have to listen to the number of rude people who just don't understand the way it works and cannot read the menu - OK you want a heavier lunch move on and find it, there are plenty of restaurants, there is no need to be rude either to the owner or between your group of friends. Behaviour like this is an embarrassment for those of us who are visitors to the area and enjoying what it offers in the individual establishments. We shall certainly be back, and are pleased to see that the pandemic has not closed down this little gem. Treat people as you would want to be treated and enjoy your lunch.More

This is a small but very friendly winebar and taverna. We stopped in for a few glasses of wine and salumi late one afternoon. We had a nice chat with the owners, who were very nice and advised on their favorite local wine producers. We...also ordered a salumi plate that was very reasonable (10 euro) but large enough that we couldn't finish it and wrapped up half for a picnic the next day. I'd go back there again to explore and just relax. This is one of several smaller places in Pienza off a quiet backstreet that probably get overlooked by most tourists, but still are worthy of consideration. Recommended.More

We visited Pienza in 2013 and de Artu. The wine was fantastic and the nibbles very nice. They were very sweet. Glad to see they have survived Covid. We hope to return

Lovely outside table and attentive service; we had two have cheese boards and a most lovely wine recommended by our host. Really delicious cheeses! For dessert the chocolate cake (vegan) was outstanding—with almonds and orange peel! We did laugh about the “no pasta no center”...etc. sign; we were quite content with the menu!More

We stopped on this restaurant by accident, we saw and empty table and sat. Couldn't be more lucky, service and the food was great. Must try the cheese table, specially the one that dips with honey aromatized with herbs. Loved it.

Arriving in Pienza as part of a bus tour, we were looking for a quiet spot for lunch, and found ourselves here. Before we took a seat, we were advised they served "no pasta, no coffee", and that was fine by us. We both had...crostone - my wife's with pecorino, pistachio cream & pancetta, and mine with pecorino, salami, and something akin to fig jam (I think... memory's fading a bit now!) My wife stuck to water, but I washed mine down with one of the Italian craft beers on offer (an Alta Quota Delizia). Total: €17.50. Everything was very tasty, and we'd probably have eaten lunch here every day if we could!More

Wonderful place for cheese and wine/beer. Quiet little street for outdoor seating and very friendly and helpful owners. Doesn’t break the bank either! A must stop by for a snack or light lunch.

This is back from the Main Street, so quieter and a very traditional feeling. We had a couple of days in Pienza and wanted something simple, local, not crowded, locally and enjoyable. This place did all of that, the person working there was incredibly helpful...and just wanted to help us. Want local, peaceful and not expensive (compared within the town) then this is worth a visit.More

We came on a tour bus and had limited time in Pienza but wanted a quick bite to eat. We fortunately happened on this friendly spot on a charming side street. The menu was basically a great variety of crostoni and bruschette - toasts with...all types of toppings. I got the melted pecorino cheese with lardo and honey. Husband got prosciutto, blue cheese and truffle oil. Both were great; about 3 times the size of standard crostini so one each was plenty. Staff were welcoming and considerate. Also nice wine selection.More

We were in Pienza just after the normal lunch hour, and there were limited ristorantes and osterias open.....thank God! Because we came upon La taverna di Re Artu, and the food was incredible. I second every single trip advisor posting that talks about the pecorino...cheese, the crostini, the sandwiches, the fondue, the wine....EVERYTHING. And the owner or manager who greeted my family of five could not have been more accommodating and pleasant and kind. And...the prices were more than fair. I'll be back in Pienza in another 10 months, and I will definitely eat here!More

We were looking for a place for lunch that was a little different. This place fit the bill. We sat at a sunny table outside and had the fondue (melted pecorino with truffle oil--amazing!), a crostini and a plate of vegetables. A couple of glasses...of Brunello di Montalcino and we had a delightful meal. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. The food was prepared fresh and with care. There are vegan selections available.More
