We had lunch at the The Rock Restaurant in Zanzibar the other day. We were expecting more based on the reputation of this restaurant. But yhe truth is, it is heavily overrated and overpriced. The furnitures are tired, the portion of the food is small,...taste was avarege and little choice on their menu. The view from the restaurant is just as views from any beach hotel in Zanzibar. I dont think they have returning guests.More

What an amazing experience! A unique breath taking romantic place with extraordinary service and exquisite food. Worth every dime and a definite must if you are in Zanzibar. Octopus and fish carpaccio as starter are to die for and The Rock special as main course...is a combination of fresh seafood that we highly recommend. We are definitely going back to experience the rest of a great menu and for another experience in this unique environment. All in all I give The Rock 10 out of 10!More

The setting is incredible and the food is delicious, however the service was frustratingly terrible. We visited in the low season and there were more waiters than customers. The large majority of the waiters, including the supervisor, stood or sat on their phones or laughed...and joked with each other while continually ignoring our attempts at getting their attention. I had to ask several times for a couple of beers before they eventually came. Apart from one member of staff, the supervisor and waiters were neither polite or helpful including when paying the bill.More

On a trip full of surreal moments, we’ll never forget taking a boat out to The Rock restaurant in the Indian Ocean for lunch on our 10th anniversary. The food and drinks are good. But let’s be honest, we did it for the views and...experience. When the tide is low, you can walk out to the restaurant. We were glad to see it was high when we arrived so a boat could ferry us over. After lunch, we lingered for drinks on the patio. Hard to wrap our brains around being in such an iconic location!More

Setting: 7/10 Fun setting. Pretty view on the ocean. Nice for a beer. Do not accept their taxi service, it will cost you 30$. A local taxi will likely charge you less than 10$. Cocktails: 2/10 Technically a cocktail. I highly suspect the hibiscus cocktail...contained no real hibiscus, but red coloring instead. "The Rock" cocktail contained green coloring. The passion mojito cocktail was pretty good and is the only one worth ordering. Food: 2/10 An absolute joke. The shrimp tempura still have the tail on but since it is covered in batter you will most likely eat the tail as well. All items are most likely frozen rather than fresh. The crab gnocchi had frozen shrimp instead of fresh crab. The lobster tagliatelle had almost no “lobster". Paying such a high price for mediocre frozen food by the sea feels like robbery. The grilled octopus was actually really good and is the only dish worth ordering. Final note: 4/10 This is a tourist trap for sure. The food is highly overpriced and serves the only purpose of generating revenue. The use of coloring in the drinks and food is dishonest to say the least. If you do not want to be disappointed, go only to have a passion mojito and and grilled octopus on the terrasse, but do not have dinner there.More

The Rock is always an experience. I visit it during every trip to the island. The new menu was outstanding - I had octopus for a starter which was most tender, and flavorsome crab ravioli. The ocean around us was showing off. The Rock Restaurant...is a treat, Reddy makes sure the service is of great standard. The ambience is true to Zanzibar (not commercialised). I recommened it!More

Nice attraction for photos but the food and service is not professional. Prices are very high for zanzibar and what you actually get.

If the tide is low you can walk, if it is high there is a small boat, don’t worry about the tide. If you go for dinner you need a reservation usually, unless it’s not busy due to COVID.
