We visited The Rock on a short trip to Zanzibar. Our Airbnb was just about a 10 minute drive away. We accidentally pulled into Upendu Hotel and they made us go down the road but they were actually just a few steps away. We arrived...a little bit before sunset and were able to walk up to the restaurant. I was happier about that than taking the boat. The view was amazing and we were really there for the experience. Based on recommendations from friends, we just had drinks. I had a passionfruit cheesecake. It was good but I would have called it a mousse more than a cheesecake. It was a quiet Tuesday so we had the place to ourselves. We sat on the balcony and just enjoyed the view. Everyone there was very friendly. I'm definitely coming back every time I'm in the area and I'm going to eat next time. It was pricier than other places, but not any more than I'd pay for a mediocre chain restaurant in the US.More

We've only been on the outside, but still loved it. When the tide is low you can walk up to the restaurant. Amazing surroundings here and ideal to make a walk down the beach. Friendly people also. Other guests in our hotel stated the food...is expensive, but worth the experience. We choose not to eat here, so we can't judge this.More

The location is excellent, and it’s really cool getting out on the boat. The balcony at the back is very good for a drink before the meal. You definitely expect to pay a bit more for the food here, as obviously everything has to come...out by boat etc, but still, they haven’t got the food quite right. Three of our party are vegetarians, and not having any vegetarian options as starters is really quite daft, especially considering how many more people are veggie these days. At $19 I expected the fish finger starter to be the best fish fingers that I had ever eaten, alas, they were not. They were just okay, and horribly over-priced. This is more for a starter than in plenty of Michelin starred restaurants in London, so I can’t really understand the pricing. We mostly had pasta dishes for main course- the ravioli was tasty, the lobster pasta forgettable. I would definitely recommend going here for a drink, as the location is very special, but probably better off saving your money as the food does not live up to the $$$. It’s a shame, as if the management responded to some of the recurrent negative feedback on here, and upped their game food wise, this could be an absolute gem, instead they are somewhat resting on their laurels of a unique location.More

This restaurant was so beautiful and so interesting to see such thing. It was worth it to go visit this place. The ocean was like crystal green/blue water and the white sand was so clear. I would recommend this to all.

This restaurant misses the true Zanzibar vibe and better food to truly shine. Nevertheless, you shouldn't miss this place since it's very beautiful. We didn't find the people at the restaurant (and nearby) to be as welcoming and friendly as on the other areas in...the island. Maybe that's the case because it's too touristic.Pay special attention for water bottles sealant as ours was a little bit weird and made us think if it wasn't glued (that sounds similar). As in most places in Zanzibar you may want to check if the tide is high or low (check in Google) and play with it for the view that you like the most.More

From the moment I arrived - I knew I was going to enjoy my experience. The view is absolutely breathtaking. I enjoyed it so much that I went twice in the week. My first visit I arrived when the tide was out so I could...walk directly to the restaurant, the second time I had to take a boat which was a nice touch to the pre-lunch experience. The restaurant decor is rustic and simple. The service was excellent! Reddi, the manager and staff makes each guest feel special. It is now my favorite restaurant in Zanzibar. I loved the tempura for starters and the seafood mix was exquisite and to finish there was TIRAMISU! Each dish was better than the next. One place that you will NOT be disappointed!More

This is quite an unique place. It was low tide so we walked to the restaurant. We were given an excellent table outside, in the shade with a magnificent view. Staff was very efficient and gentle. I recommend the rock special....it is a feast of...seafood. It was delicious. For dessert the coconut tiramisu is yummi, We left by boat due to high tide. I consider this was a special experience that I hope others can enjoyMore

The Rock is absolutely my favorite place to eat in true world. The view is phenomenal but the food is exquisite ! Beautiful seafood, pasta, and meat cooked to perfection and served with a touch of class and elegance. The Rock may not look like...much from the outside, but the magic is in the staff (Reddy is an awesome human being), the food, the drinks and of course . The fantastic view. Everything was so fresh and tasty! A must visit if you are in Zanzibar. I went twice !!! GeraldMore

If the tide is low you can walk, if it is high there is a small boat, don’t worry about the tide. If you go for dinner you need a reservation usually, unless it’s not busy due to COVID.
