Food at Upendo (right across on the beach) is far superior. At the Rock, you are paying for the experience and the atmosphere. After coming for sunset and then full dinner one night, we would recommend coming across an hour or two before sunset to...More

I'd seen this place in various online magazines, that it was amazing and a definite must when in Zanzibar. We were shuttled in and shuttled out so fast we barely got to enjoy either the food or the atmosphere. Waiters rushed us. Coctails were somehow...More

Very bad beef (very tough), no wine glasses for expensive wine, low value for money in total. It was the worst meal of our entire 2 week vacation, and also the most expensive. You can better save yourself money and just go for a picture....More

This was both the worst meal of our entire 3 week vacation, and also the most expensive. It was comical how bad our food was. We ordered the seafood platter and it was so, so bad. Bad sign when it comes out within 5 minutes...More

It's the landmark of Zanzibar, so a picture here worth millions! Worth having a drink, though you must have patience and cope with the pace of the personnel. Nevertheless, it's among the few places when you can use your credit card.

The Rock is a novelty restaurant and you really need to check to see when the tide is in and go at that time. We went when the tide was out and the area was unattractive and it smelled. I am almost sure that they...More

The location is beautiful. We had dinner around 6pm so we saw the sunset. The food is pretty good, but pricy for Tanzanian, European prices. Excellent wines and good services. Free wifi for only 2 hours. You need a reservation. They accept MasterCard and dollars.

What a thing to find a beautiful beach with a Rock island... The trick is to come when the tide is in otherwise it's not as amazing. It's like a mini Mont St. Michel... The food was ok but as you can expect from a...More

Yes, they take credit cards, but they will add a charge of 5% (?) to the bill (just like any other business does in Tanzania)

We paid between US$ 9 and US$12 for cocktails. The meals we had were from US$ 15 upwards. Cannot remember the rest, but I think ice cream was about US$ 7. Keep in mind that most restaurants also charge about 5% "handling... More

I didn't eat here, just had drinks. prices were high and there is an excellent restaurant just opposite in the beach at Upendo which has a huge selection. I preferred to eat there and visit The Rock for the view and drinks.

Serving up to 14 tables, all facing a wonderful terrace on the Ocean, the restaurant is connected to the main land by boat, within high tide, and reachable by foot within low tide. It is also easy reachable by sea if coming by boat from an excursion.
