When in the area, this is a must see! A large tiki bar built off the coast on a sandbar...does it get any cooler than that? The big catch was not knowing before hand that there is a charge to have a boat bring you out to the bar. We assumed the boat drivers would work off tips as is usual in JA but upon arrival we learned there was a $20 per person fee to get out to the bar. We had not factored that in and luckily we all had enough $$ left over from YS Falls to make the trip.
Once on the bar it is quite the site. Set out on the ocean it is made up of wood planks that are fully covered in carvings of people's names who have been there. For a small fee, one of the guys will carve your name in too. The guys working the bar were very friendly and informative about the origins of the bar. Be sure to give a small tip to the guys helping you in and out of your boat onto the bar. Overall, a very unique place and we will never likely experience anything like it again. Highly recommended.
Took Rocky's taxi service on our day trip to YS Falls and Pelican and highly recommend them too. Much cheaper than booking through the hotel.

The only excursion we did while staying at Villa Gilgal for a girl's trip (see separate trip review - in a word outstanding) was to visit Pelican Bar. Very chill spot with flags and souvenirs and carved names of people who have been there before. We had Red Stripes and swam off the pier and you feel like you're in the middle of the ocean because...you are! We didn't have any food so can't speak to that. We went on a very windy day but it was not crowded at all and small and large groups were coming and going, we stayed about an hour. It's a quick boat ride out here and definitely something to see and experience while you're in the area.

You have to get out to the Pelican Bar.
It is just such a cool place...we were the second boat there and we're told we had to wait 8 minutes to order our beers. We thought it was due to operating hours - nope it's because the Red Stripe was on a boat on its way. When it arrived it was good and cold.
Place had a few small boats arrive and one from a resort so you could see it filling up but it was still comfortable. But more boats from the resorts were coming and you soon realized it would get packed shortly. Get there before all the resort day trippers pack the place.
Lunch of fresh fish was good but get your order in as soon as you arrive. It takes a while.
There are lots of local guys there willing to sell you souvenirs or smoke. And the dominoes boars is in constant play.
Highly recommend this place as someplace different to see. And bring your bathing suit as the swimming is great.

You can either go on a guided tour to different spots or, like us, drive to a beach where you are asked if you want to go to the bar. You ask the price, follow the person and then park the car in their garden :-) then the person drives you to the bar in their fishing boat. We paid 15 per person but gave 20 each because it benefits the family and the driver was a really nice man.
The bar itself; over the top! We ordered 2x curry shrimps with a bit of rice and two beers: 70 dollars....
The tourists are being ripped off but it's understandable, they have to earn money too. But we had to wait 1.5 hours for the food.
We wouldn't go there again.

It's a hut floating in the sea. If that's not your thing, you won't enjoy it. It's quite a long boat ride to get out there and the boats departing from Treasure Beach and Black River are small fishing boats. Getting out there was an hair-rasing adventure to say the least. The space itself is overcommercialized to say the least. There is a small restaurant, a bar and about a space for vendors selling wood carvings and other souvenirs (which was a surprise to me given the limited space!). These are the same guys who will carve your name in the "building" for a "tip". There were also a lot of "hangabouts", locals who were just there to be there. If you happen to be near the area and want to spend the day drinking ($5 for a red stripe), then this may be the place for you. If I had traveled from Negril or farther for this, I would have been pissed. Same if I had paid a $100 to get out there. We paid $30/per person, which we negotiated with the boat person. After about 30 minutes of taking pictures, making small talk and drinking, we decided to call it an evening and leave before it got dark. I don't regret going but probably won't return.

The Pelican Bar is a unique experience you shouldn't miss if you're in Jamaica. This rustic, wooden shack is perched on stilts in the Caribbean Sea, offering a serene, laid-back atmosphere surrounded by endless ocean views.
Food and Ambiance:
From the image, it looks like you’re enjoying a fresh seafood meal – likely some type of fish with a yellow curry sauce, possibly with local veggies. The simple plastic plates and casual setting add to the rustic charm, making it a no-frills but authentic Jamaican experience. The entire vibe feels very "off-the-beaten-path," with nautical flags and memorabilia hanging around, giving it a true island feel.
What to Bring:
Cash: Pelican Bar doesn’t accept cards, so be sure to carry cash for food, drinks, and any tips.
Sunscreen & Hat: You’ll be in the sun for a while, especially during the boat ride out.
Towel & Swimsuit: If you feel like taking a dip in the crystal-clear waters around the bar.
Snorkeling Gear: The shallow waters around the bar are perfect for a quick snorkel, and you might even see some fish.
Camera/Phone: You’ll definitely want to capture the unique scenery and laid-back vibes.
Tips:
Plan a Boat Ride: It’s only accessible by boat, arrange transportation from places like Treasure Beach, black river, etc
Timing: Go during the day to enjoy the sun, but sunset views from the bar are unforgettable.
Relax: The bar isn't for anyone in a hurry. The service is island-style slow, so sit back, have a drink, and soak up the experience!

Pelican bar has been a place we have wanted to visit for some time and whilst we were staying at Treasure Beach we finally took the trip and I’m so happy we did.
A bar on stilts made up of drift wood almost a mile out to sea, who would have thought it! Such a unique and wonderful place, the vibe is so chilled and truly Jamaican.
A definite must is to make your mark on the driftwood, we joined thousands before whom have had their name or message carved in the wood, there isn’t a price that hasn’t got something carved in.
A highly recommended trip

A family trip to the bar was worth every penny. Our Captain was Joseph and he is the best. He picked us up from our villa at Jakes. Covid protocols were fully in effect. He stopped so we saw dolphins and the team at the bar were very helpful and accommodating too. a few drinks, got out names carved in the wood and swam.

This has got to be one of the most unique places I have ever visited and it is an absolute must see! How Floyd managed to build this in the ocean I will never know but its beautiful. I would highly recommend a visit, little local boats take you over and you can have your names carved into the wood, plenty of cold drinks available also. I would say its worth using the toilet on the mainland though as its literally a hole in the ground... but can't knock his imagination!

We went here on a cloudy/rainy day - booked through Amstar at our resort. It would have been much better to go on a sunny warmer day. it was cool to walk around and see the items posted from all over the world. One of our group had the lobster there and the rest of us had drinks. Rum punch was $8 each, we stuck to beer! Some stingrays around and music was on with dominoes being played. Glad that we went, but not sure that I need to go back.

Unique place! Where else can you go to a bar/restaurant right on the ocean! We had some drinks (red stripe beer for my husband: rum and coke for me) enjoyed a lobster lunch, reggae music and carved our names into the bench. You can also swim around the restaurant. I thought this place was way cool! We did this at the end of our Black River safari tour. A great overall combo.

Went to Floyd's on an overcast day in early November (damn you ETA!).
It was as expected. There were four of us and there was one other group at Floyd's when we arrived. So, we kind of had the place to ourselves. The water was cloudy due to ETA, so snorkeling was not great. Limited bar menu (we stuck to Red Stripe Light) and we didn't eat there.
It is a unique experience and maybe it would be more fun when it's packed (maybe not). I'm not sure I HAVE to go back, but I'm glad I went.

We get in an old rickety boat. We spend 20 minutes heading towards a bar in the middle of the ocean. We get off the boat and the fun begins. Imagine fresh fish, Red Stripe, and a sand bar to hang out on. We drove 2 hours from Montego Bay and it was worth it...

The little boat out to the bar was fun, but on arrival, we saw that the bar was packed with people, and it felt like playing a game of Sardines. There was no room to walk about, sit, or relax. Ended up on the steps by the makeshift toilet that is no more than a mat that men can wee on! Would never go back unless it was completely out of season.
The boat back was great but seeing dolphins was the highlight, not the bar.

What an awesome experience i could have stayed here all day the vibes are so good, it was super windy though so i was concerned with the crossing back. My only suggestion would be another ladder to get in and out the sea as it was very tricky getting back on board after a dip. If you are within a couple of hours of this place it is a must visit. Made our holiday such a rich experience
