Recently, my husband, another couple, and I took the steam train from Fort William to Mallaig. We decided to have lunch at Chlachain Inn and what a treat it was! Two of us had the scallops and the other two chose the mussels. Both dishes were excellent, but my husband couldn't stop raving about the broth in which the mussels... More

Like many others we arrived on the Jacobite Steam train and had previously reserved a table. Definitely a good move. I ordered, and paid for, our meal and a drink for myself. As the barman was pouring my beer he announced that the barrel needed changing and that e would bring my drink over shortly. Fair enough. Some time later... More

We went here for lunch, on a trip on the Jacobite train. What a find !! Tucked up a side street, the pub was lovely, with a roaring fire on a very wet day. The food was Excellant, esp mine, I had a platter , with cheese ham pickle bread etc, it was one of the best I have ever... More

a recent visit to Mallaig, with otherwise excellent drink and food was completely spoilt by the adulteration of our crabmeat with finely chopped green and red peppers. I had requested plain crabmeat but was told that the 'Crab mayonnaise was' already mixed. Never in my wildest imaginations would I have come up with this nightmare combination, a lifetime in the... This just has to be on anyone's list of places to visit in Mallaig..great whisky gantry... and a fine choice of ales... very spacious bar area with free papers to read (No Guardian tho').... But the food is SPECTACULAR!... I had the 'special' seafood chowder and it was one of the finest meals I have ever had... lovely bread, mussels... More

Had a few hours in Mallaig until the return train to Fort William and wanted fresh seafood. The Chlachain Inn had wonderful food and a relaxed atmosphere. Turn right out of the train station and then take the first street on the right. The Inn is at the top of a short hill on the left. The seafood appetizer from... More

Came here in April and was most disappointed to find they had no real ale on sale despite assurances that it was always available. HOWEVER , having just called in again I was delighted to find 3 good Orkney Ales advertised and available. The food was generally very good. I had ribeye steak last night, which if I am honest,... The Inn was very busy when we arrived but staff were very helpful in finding us a table. Food was delicious and staff were friendly and attentive

Came to Mallaig on the The Jacobite train. Just around from the station. Had the Seafood Chowder. Beautiful fresh tasty dish. Good large portion too. Highly recommend it

Quite simply the best meal I have ever had. We ordered chips to share to go with out mains because we got the impression that the portions were going to be small - we were wrong, and sadly we couldn't eat all of the chips in the end (we gave it a good go though). I had scallops to start,... More
