Nestled in a scenic locale that captivates its visitors, Ristorante Grotta Palazzese offers breathtaking views that a number of guests find enchanting. Despite its romantic atmosphere, some diners find the ambiance compromised by noise and a touristy feel. Patrons have called out the restaurant for its steep prices, which many argue are not reflected in the quality of food and service, often described as lackluster and slow. The experience is further marred by lengthy waits that have left many diners disappointed.

Positives: Great views and ambience, complimentary bread with olive oil for starters, tolerant with delays in arrival time if communicated in advance on phone, provided a think quilt to wrap around when it got a bit too cold and windy Neutrals: Average food (well presentedand decorated but taste is not that well), average service, strict dress code for men Negatives: overpriced, only 3-4 options for vegetarians (even lesser for vegans and do not taste that good), inflexible menu Disappointing: 1. While booking online, their website promised complimentary parking but when we arrived, they told us that no parking is available and we had to park our car 1km away from the hotel and pay for it. 2. 190 Eur per person for 1,2 or 3 dishes out of q very limited menu. Water costs extra (7 Eur), Cola (10 Eur for small one) 3. You need to book online in advance and cannot just show up. While booking, you have to give card details and authorise them to deduct 150 EUR (on no show). 4. toilets not that clean, no toilet paper, smelly (not 5 star) Overall: average if you have a lot of money to pour on leisure but very not really a value for money place. The best takeaway of the place is just the cave and cliff views (not food or restaurant itself) Suggestions for restaurant: Should add complimentary drink (at least water), should ensure parking for all, should expand menu with more vegan and vegetarian options + non alcoholic beverages in menu, should take guest feedback to improve menu and services on departure (more customer orientation) Suggestion for guest: Do call them before showing up even if you booked online to avoid surprises like no parking available, no vegan food available, etc.

With big excitement, we went to the Restaurant, having so many good experiences in Puglia. I have been already many times but never to this Restaurant. Let's be honest. The food is surely top of the range and there is nothing to complain about but the service was not as expected. Paying for a 3 dished menu paying 190€ per Person, I would have expected more or make your own judgement, if I am too harsh. First surprise was, that for 4 people, we got 3 plates with olive oil for the bread, shouldn't it have been 4? Compared with other top class Restaurants, I was surprised to discover, that for our main dish, a lady came around to give us new cutlery but in the most unusual way. While one person had knife and fork served on the right side together, another was served apart on such way, a plate can put in between and mine was like in pointed to a triangle while my daughters knife was forgotten. I know, why do I complain, because I paid 4 times 190€ and had with less expensive and less classed Restaurants more and better experiences. Last but not least, I am not used, that when drinking wine, in a Restaurant trying to be on a high level class, to pour wine ourselves. I know, it is complaining at a high level but I have been to other less expensive Restaurants, where I got a better service and it also shall help the responsible to learn out of it. It was good food, a nice evening but being to so many good Restaurants in Puglia, it was the most expensive one and compared to the other ones, it was a disappointment. We will be back in Puglia but I have a strong feeling, that we won't go back to the Restaurant, at least not so fast anymore. I feel somehow sorry but on the other hand, it is not worth the money.

Food: airplane food even hospital food tastes better than what they serve here. Vegetarians get bowls with pasta and 3 tomatoes and then some grains with sauce. Bland and arrived cold. Service : McDonald’s has better service I asked the waiter for Bailey’s on ice and he told me they don’t have Baileys because it’s not in season. It’s hilarious. He then went and asked whoever and came back with Baileys on ice. Fine dinning ? : I had to pour my own wine. No one in sight. So hard to get their attention. They also obviously have no idea what fine dinning is. Should a place like this not have a gourmet chef? I think it’s just someone’s cousin who can boil pasta and throw sauce over it that is employed here as the chef. €€€ : 190€ pp. for 3 course meal . Totally not worth the price. Ambience and view: lovely only redeeming factor here. Only reason anyway would go here and pay 500 € to basically sit in a beautiful place and eat terrible food and get terrible service. Don’t have great expectations if you are going for the food or “fine dinning” experience. If you are going for the view and the ambience and you are okay to pay 500€ for 2 hours (you have only two hours btw.) then by all means go. I feel sad that such a beautiful venue is ruined by greed or incompetence.

We went for my wife birthday with son+girlfriend. The location it's undubtely unique and breathtaking. Besides the prices (no surprise on that, obviously) the service was...well they should work on that: we ordered the bottle of local bubbles: first bottle wasn't chilled, the maître d' looked at me as I was crazy when I asked for another one. We finally get a second one but still warm. I let it go as I was definitely upset. A la carte wasn't so bad but definitely not worth the price; vegan options menu was somehow very poor (and at the same price level) with the main (pure di fave and cicorie) which has been left untouched. Service very slow, waiters looked like atoms moving around tables. We had to wait 20 min + for desserts. If the want continue charge the same price the shall definitely work on food quality and service. They spoiled the evening.

It was my husband's birthday and I wanted it to be special and memorable, as one would imagine. It certainly was MEMORABLE. Let's go down memory lane point by point: 1. The only positive thing I can say about this place is the location. Stunning - but this is where it ends. 2. We were obliged to pay EUR 150 in advance which was refundable only if you cancelled within 2 days of the reservation. I figured this was acceptable imagining the place. would be packed. We walked into a completely EMPTY restaurant. (Only one other table was eventually occupied by a family of 4 – obviously also not impressed). 3. We ordered our food and were obliged to order immediately our dessert which is absurd. 4. The champagne and also the red wine following were served in the same type of glass. At a price of EUR 30 a glass, I expect a proper champagne glass and a proper red wine glass. We were not asked to taste before being served these newly opened bottles. 5. The service was mediocre and rushed. 6. The quality of the food did not match the price whatsoever. Antipasto: 4 scallops for me and a small bowl of tough lobster for my husband. Main: Pasta Paccheri (raw) with a cheese sauce and a spoon of raw shrimps, risotto (also undercooked) with a squid sauce Dessert: Semi-freddo and a coconut cake 2 glasses of champagne and 1 glass of wine TOTAL: EUR 427. I went to pay at the desk where a man was sitting there looking bored. I told him, in Italian, that it was highly evident why this restaurant was empty. I told him that this was an example of taking advantage of people and especially tourists. When I told him “You didn’t even bother to ask me how our meal was”, he simply shrugged his shoulders. Italy is a country full of natural beauty, charm and, above-all, one of the most excellent cuisines in the world. This restaurant does not reflect this wonderful country. Puglia is full of restaurants, one better than the next, run by families who put passion in their field. Please choose another restaurant!

I’ll start with the only positive experience we had at the restaurant: the views were nice. Otherwise it was a complete scam and not worth a fraction of what they charge, which is minimum £190 for three a la carte selections, not including wine etc. It started off with them sitting us down at our table, handing us menus, and then ignoring us for the next 15 minutes. When the waiter did arrive, all he said was “Ready?” It went down hill from there with a terrible veal antipasti that literally looked and tasted like they bought deli meat from the supermarket and put some mustard on it. The pasta was undercooked “not al dente” and had a smidgeon of the scampi tartar. And the Turbot, the main, I had one bite and sent it back. DO NOT GO.

We went to Grotta Palazzese 6 perople for dinner. During the 2 1/2 hours there we never got the feeling that any of the staf really cared abount the guests. The restaurant was not full, but still there was no attention. We ordered the big menu with wine wine pairing, but the wine was not served until we had eaten most of each dish. We asked for water several times without getting it and the food was cold (when it was supposed to be warm) and in general the food was of a very inferior quality. Sometimes the waiter informed us about the type of wine we got, sometimes not. We ordered the biggest tasting menu with 7 courses, but only got 4 courses. When we asked about this, the waiter just apologized and said it was a computer error. They charged almost the same for 4 courses as 7 courses, only EUR 40 difference out of EUR 230 per person without wine), instead we could get a cheap bottle of spumante for free!! In the end when we paid they refused to deduct our EUR 400 deposit from the bill, they preferred to “return it later”. And it is an open restaurant and it is windy and cold out of summer season. The restaurant is a tourist trap and the quality is inferior, service is very bad, I will not recommend to anyone to go there.

We had the worst culinary experience at Ristorante Grotta Palazzese. Food and service were not up to expectations of the high price. The prices are not justified and impose a menu per person with only 3 courses, no appetizers: one starter, one main course and a tiny dessert are included for 190 euros per person without drinks. We did not not finish any of the meals as it was not tasty at all. The lobster was not cooked. I could not swallow it. We just wanted to run away after paying the bill on-site. Only the view is enjoyable. Plus we were charged 150 euros in advance in order to secure a table. We will only be refunded 150 euros deposit a month later. This is a scandal. I advise any traveller NOT to visit this restaurant.

First of all, the most problematic thing at this restaurant: it's really, really expensive, especially if you have a kid (flat rate 100 euros) and/or want wine with your dinner. Everything else was great. They have an offsite parking (highly recommended, as it won't be easy to park close) and a shuttle takes you to the restaurant. Throughout the evening, the view is amazing; I recommend going in time to see the sunset (maybe the 18:00-19:00 service, depending on dates) to savour it fully. Food was excellent, although the menu choices are a little restricted; this is common in high-end restaurants. Portions were fair. The toilets are an experience in themselves, dug in the rock, with windows that are slits in the cliff and are a great viewpoint as well.

This meal was probably worth about €30, but cost us €450! I’m happy to pay for a good meal, but this was absolutely not that. I can’t really describe how bad the food was, but tasteless and reheated are probably good words. Because the food is so bad, they have to run a rip off with the menu— there is no a la carte, instead you are required to spend a minimum of €180 per person on food regardless of what or how many courses you eat. 1 side salad? €180. 3 lobsters? €180. There is no menu on their website, so this absurdity can’t be foreseen. The only thing I can compliment is the service, which didn’t really have an excuse since we were the only diners in the restaurant. In summary: Don’t get pulled into the Instagram hype of this location. You are in Italy & there are wonderful meals all around!

This is an absolute tourist trap. The menu is heavily overpriced, we ended up paying €645 for lunch for three. The waiter nor the manager asked us about the experience, they were unable to explain what they serve and the cutlery has been ‘thrown at us’ at all possible occasions. The food quality was alright but the taste was just not there. Very dissatisfying.

We paid 1200 euros for that dinner, more than 250 each, the waiters didn’t serve us wine, they didn’t come to check up on us, they didn’t know who ordered which meat and they cooked all of the meat the same , when we asked one rare, another medium well and well done. And the food itself was very low quality. Spaghetti with lobster had maybe 10 gramms of lobster . The venue looks very good but the rest is very very bad!!! Ps. Try to find lobster on the photo haha

Spectacular view and setting...but you can get same view a few steps away without entering the restaurant. Dining room is run by 2 twenty something's incredibly unprofessional, including dropped tray of dishes. Was greeted with a water glass with lipstick during a world pandemic...hello? Asked for manager 3 times, no show. Our meal had been prepaid in USA, something it took them 45 minutes to figure out while they treated us like criminals. Finally they found the booking. NO apology whatsoever. Arrogant disdainful mediocrity.

Imagine if you will... a setting that brings people to gawk at the unique cave, perched above an azure sea. Imagine charging 190€ per person to sit in there and serving them food worse than the 10€ plates of pasta available around the corner. Well, not imagination necessary. Just take your 190€ plus wine and toss it into the sea rather than go here. I sorta got roped into it. Didn't pay attention to the prices. Made the reservation upon the recommendation of my airbnb host. Thought it might be cool to splurge on something pretty. And then on the day-of I read the fine details. 190€ for three measly courses. Horrible reviews. No-show charge of 75€. I almost opted to lose the 75€ and got somewhere else. I already paddled in the cave that day. Much nicer from the ground. But I sucked it up and went. I couldn't imagine it would be so bad. I take full blame for the poor decisions. What I was served: Chewy cold octopus in a sad saffron sauce. Lobsterless lobster pasta, lukewarm, meh. And two tiny bits of lobster over carrot sticks, both cold. I think they either just don't care or are delusional enough to think that this passes for elegant cuisine to some (because the portions are small). But I sense that it's the former, as they clearly haven't hired staff that justifies the cost. I've eaten in multiple Michelin restaurants in the region, and while often offering cold service, the food stands up and the staff are consulate professionals. Not here. Perhaps the worst part of the night was the incredibly loud [American - my people] woman shouting into her phone all night long, seemingly talking to friends back home while her poor partner sat trying to dote on her and occupy himself when she deemed to pay him mind. This restaurant was perfect for her. Expensive, vapid, and completely devoid of taste.

First off this place is breath taking! Just the ambiance was an experience in itself! The prices are very high for the food quality. Our food was still good but not the best. Servers were all very attentive either refilling our wine/water right away and clearing the table between courses. We did 2 al a carte dinners so we could try different things. The pasta courses were not the greatest flavor very salty and chewy lobster. The lobster main course was very flavorful and cooked well! The sauce with the lamb was very salty. Both desserts we had were amazing! For the experience it’s great- get a reservation at 7pm so you can see the cave in sunlight, watch the sunset, and then see it at night transform! Pros: Amazing location/ambiance Great service- very attentive Great desserts Cons: Price for the food quality Pasta courses need work
