This review focuses on the service, food and price. I see a lot of reviews mentioning the amazing view or incredible sunset, and one must point out that a majority of venues along the caldera offer a spectacular view and sunset, while the latter two...are additional bonuses, it doesn't make the food taste any better or justify the high prices charged here or at many of the venues along the Caldera. Our experience. I first contacted the restaurant via their online contact form, with a very specific request. My girlfriend had at the time, and still has stage 4 cancer and had just started her Chemotherapy treatment. This trip was intended to be a special one for her birthday and I contacted the venue well in advance of our arrival to Santorini. My request was specific - I explained my girlfriend's situation, explained it was her birthday, asked if we could have a birthday cake and I would obviously pay whatever this cost, and I requested a prime view table. Around 4 days after submitting my request I had not heard from the venue so I telephoned them. I explained I had submitted a request via their booking system and that I had specific requests. The lady on the phone looked briefly for the email request, then asked me what date I wanted to book. I explained I had specific requests but I got the impression she couldn't really be bothered, she was just more interested in getting my name in the diary. I pressed that I had specific requirements and wanted to know if these could be met, I explained the reasons why. I was told I would have a nice table, box checked, I was told they could not provide a cake which was disappointing but they would do something special for her. We were given a great seat, overlooking the Caldera with all other hotels and restaurants, so the view here was no more spectacular. We ordered the 7 course degustation menu. A point to note you must both have he same menu option. if you want the menu option Starter, Main, Dessert, you both had to have this. One of you can't this option and the other person have the degustation option. There are several options of the 7 course menu, and changing these was not straight forward, the waiting staff had to check with the chef, which shows lack of flexibility in my opinion. All these options but are told what you are having. The food was nice, and it is pointless stating the fact it was overpriced because most restaurants along the caldera try their best to justify these inflated prices. While I sound bitter, I will confess I am. We are still waiting for that something special to happen. A venue that prides itself on service couldn't go the extra mile to provide a birthday cake, nor could they be bothered to even sing happy birthday to my girlfriend, nor could they be bothered to provide that something special as I was assured they would on the phone. Simple fact is, it is all smiles when you pay the bill, maximum profit for minimum effort a special quality across this island for most establishments. While the food was nice, it is not filling, we both returned to our retreat at Santorini Sky and visited the villa reception and loaded our mini baskets with food and filled the void in our bellies. Now that is what you call exceptional service and going the extra mile. I expected more from this venue based on the reviews, It relies too heavily on the location, and not considering going that extra mile especially under the circumstances. I will not visit this venue again.More
