We arrived in Bethune and had time to spend before our apartments were ready. We chose the Brussels cafe as its signage stood out on the square. The staff were friendly and the food was enjoyable.

We sat in the sunshine overlooking the square - lovely location. Service was good and we were under no time pressure despite it being very busy. I had the plat du jour fish dish which came in a citroen sauce and the sides were stuffed...aubergine and a potato dish - Mr had moules, lots of them, and pomme frites. It was all delicious and we have no complaints. For desert we shared a Creme Brulee, when in France, we loved it. For an easy dinner in a central location this is great.More

I am very surprised to see such poor reviews! My husband and I stopped here for lunch yesterday and had two of the best salads we have had in a long time. Both serves were massive and could have fed 2 or more people, that...said, we both took our time and enjoyed every mouthfull. The staff were friendly and polite, service was quick and efficient and food wonderful, could not have asked for more.More

I’m a pretty fussy vegetarian, we were in Bethune for 2 nights and on both nights we came here to eat. That was because I enjoyed my vegetarian pizza so much the first night I insisted on coming back again the next night for the...same meal! My partner had spaghetti carbonara the first night and steak the second night. He enjoyed both meals although he had asked for the steak to be well done and felt it was rather too well done. He learned on other nights elsewhere to ask for a medium steak as that is what we would tend to serve in the UK as well done. He should have gone vegetarian and had the pizza! 😁More

This is the restaurant attached to the hotel which we stayed in and which I didn't review very favourably. However, we had lunch here on arrival in Bethune and it was very good. The food was good, the service was fine and it wasn't overly...expensive.More

Nice surroundings, great selection of beer (Try the Leffe Ruby) but slightly disappointed by the food. Most French restaurants pride themselves on giving you wonderful bread and butter with your meal. The bread was okay, but you could buy similar from ASDA or Tesco's, to...me it was supermarket bread and not home-made or bought local. The fruits of the sea salad was nice, but the crab as promised on the menu was still swimming somewhere in the Channel as it was no where to be seen on my plate. Food nice, but preparation and service a tad lazy.More

Bethune is a village that suffered from WW1 and was carefully rebuilt as before the war with a nice square. Around this Grand Place there are various restaurants. Competition should be an incentive for getting good food. Tripadvisor ranked it as 44 out of 60,...but we were stubborn. Le Brussel's Café was crowded and as it seemed with locals, a good sign. The Belgium Leffe Triple and the Coke were perfect, cold and came out of a bottle. Nothing wrong with it. We ordered Flammekuche Béthunoise, which should be made like a pizza but with a crispy crust, and Penne á l’Indienne, containg mushrooms, chicken breast, parmesan and curry. It turned out mission impossible to change a soggy sponge into a crispy crust. It was neither a Flammekuche, nor a pizza. Too soggy to eat. The penne á l’Indienne turned out to have been cooked next to an unopened box of curry as we could only taste a hint of curry, but at least it was Indian curry. Little morcels of mushroom were found and the parmesan seemed to have been absent during the weekend. Fortunately we found little pieces of chicken breast between the penne. Unfortunately the chicken clearly was fed all its miserable life fishmeal. Fishmeal is recognized by nutritionists as a high-quality, very digestible feed ingredient that is favored for addition to the diet of most farm animals. Unfortunately the taste of the meat gets marinated with a fishy taste hard to digest. We were hungry but did not finished our plates. The food was too bad to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Though the service was not that bad we did not dare to complain as we would be considered some bloody paysants with no knowledge of fine French cuisine. Our lesson; have faith in Tripadvisor’s opinion, and act accordingly.More

Had a reasonable pizza- a little on the crusty side. My friend had a very basic lasagne- nothing special. The surroundings were fine and the staff were good. The service was quick and efficient. If I were in the area I would go again. It...was really a case of you pay your money and you get what you pay for.More

Stopped for lunch on way back to Eurotunnel, warm enough to sit outside and watch a wedding which was taking place at the Town Hall which is opposite the restaurant. Very good selection of pasta, pizza and many other French and Belgian dishes. Food was...very good and service very prompt. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.More
