Chanced upon this place on our detour trip en route to Hakuba. We ordered assorted different sets. The kuri rice was amazing in that you could taste every grain. Whilst not authentic of local eating etiquette, we also tried mixing the rice in the sauce...of the pork kakuni the set came with - the result was amazing. Soba was fresh and just the right chewiness. everyone cleared their plates as a result.More

They take Amex. The restaurant sign out front is in Kanji and so it may be a little hard to find but it is the largest place on that corner. I’m not a fan of Soba Noodles normally but Soba Noodles dipped in the duck...soup they have is awesome! Would heartily recommend the duck soup. Got a heaping plate of noodles, duck soup, teapot of tea and a chestnut dessert for around $17 or so. Would eat here again.More

The traditional architecture with high ceiling, the setting of the tables with plenty of space, large windows and the views into a beautifully designed garden together create a special atmosphere. I had hot soba in a duck broth with vegetables, could not have been better!...My friends enjoyed their udon hot pot and the mixed fruits as well. You can take a stroll through the garden and continue on Obuse's "Visit my garden" path.More

Taken here by a local guide and the food and setting didn't disappoint. Exceeded expectation (as did the whole of Obuse) and the garden setting was wonderfull.

This is my third visit to Obuse and this restaurant is worth finding. It is a zen oasis especially after a long day trip from Shiga Kogen. I recommend a table overlooking the beautiful garden. Delicious food, great range of soba noodles made on the...premises. This time I tried one of the chestnut desserts.More

We had the tempura soba with the chestnut rice. The chestnut was so sweet and the whole meal was just perfect. Worth a visit!

I went to lunch wanting to try a chestnut dish, but the soba and duck soup sounded so good I changed my mind. Glad I did! I don't normally gravitate toward cold soba, but a lovely English-speaking waitress who had learned English in Canada brought...me a sheet in English explaining how to eat soba to best enjoy it, and the new experience changed my mind about the noodles! It was so helpful to have the menu and an additional explanation in English.More

Meals are in the unfortunate taste, is too high price with no dericious cuisin. And yet, because the lunch time is crowded, after the opening, those who were coming to the restaurant as soon as possible would be good. It is a good place to...be healed by looking at the Japanese Garden. However, meals are without order, Let's tea !More

We were looking for chestnut on rice and came across Sakurai restaurant. The restaurant is typical Japanese, large dining area and tables set not too near one another. There is a beautiful small garden that we only briefly glimpsed as we came here in late...evening. Good food and good ambience, a nice ending to a long day.More
