I have been to this restaurant twice now with my cousins when I visit them in Kent. Each time has been a great experience. The food is yummy and the service is good. The place is super quaint. The cheese board for dessert is super good.

I live just around the corner from Rochester High St which is packed with restaurants of all kinds and Topes is my favourite. If you like something different, a chef prepared to experiment and produce something new, Topes is for you, they also have a well stocked gin bar, try the local Dock Yard Gin. Great looking venue in the... More

In Rochester to see Cathedral and Castle, stumbled across Topes , Initially a cold welcome as "she" thought we were blow-ins wanting a quick sandwich, and explained the food would take a while and pointedly drew attention to the wines by the glass, as clearly we were not bottle kind of people! We ordered a bottle of rather good Gavi,... More

We were greeted with smiling and cheerful staff who took us to our table - the very central table at the back, against a row of cushions. The restaurant was comfortable, cosy and romantic - an old English, coastal cottage feel that was inviting and different from most other places nearby. We ordered from the set Friday menu, which was... More

Just a spur of the moment lunch down in Rochester. The staff were very pleasant . The food was tasty and decent size portions. A nice bottle of Sancerre . The cheese was served at room temperature and not direct from the fridge which was perfect and a good variety . The service was attentive but the wine was left... More

We had a wonderful birthday meal here. The staff start the welcome as soon as you enter the restaurant. The atmosphere is good. Although it looks small there is upstairs seating. The service is very good. Very attentive regarding food allergies. The food itself is very good. Fresh local produce. Well presented.

Still my favourite restaurant! Great food, great drinks, great staff! Would eat here twice a week if I won the lottery!! £35 for three courses is brilliant value, we also had a cocktail and wine! Excellent!

I love this restaurant, wonderful atmosphere, amazing food and a lovely old building. It is expensive, but its not an everyday place, this is place to go for special occasions. Well worth it, we have never had a bad meal there, the. Menu is seasonal and locally sourced, I would highly recommend it.

Booked here to have a night out over and above the usual high street evenings and wasn't disappointed. Nice decor (if a little cold by the main door, but it is unseasonably cold!), friendly attentive staff and an interesting menu. Seems you have no choice but to have the 3 course weekend supper menu, but it turned out to be... More

Description
TOPES restaurant is a modern British restaurant centrally located in Rochester High Street in Kent and has been awarded two AA rosettes. Chris Small, head chef and co-owner, has created several different menus, including a special set price lunch (L16 for 2 courses and coffee) and mid-week evening menu (3 courses for L25). In addition, there is an a la carte menu for Friday and Sunday evenings and traditional roasts on Sunday. All ingredients are bought in fresh on a daily basis from local suppliers and the menus reflect seasonal produce. The restaurant is set in a 15th, 16th and 17th Century building and many of the original features remain. However, the restaurant has a modern feel to it to reflect the modern style of dishes on offer.
