While getting lost on an ATV, parched from lack of water, I stumbled into Rocamar. A seaside oasis for the weary and thirsty. Only having several colones I ordered up a Choco Mono. Cool and refreshing, as I gazed out at the surf, I said to myself, this would be an excellent place for brunch before the superbowl the following day. So, the following day, we saddled up the ole ATV, and off we went from Montezuma to Santa Teresa. When we arrived the waitress smiled and said, "choco mono? " as we were seated at one of the shaded tables. Bloody Mary's and Mojitos to start, followed by a breakfast burrito and a Benny Brioche. Each dish was freshly made and served within 15 minutes. The wife ordered another bloody. One of the best shes ever had. Chef Nico introduced himself and thanked us for coming. My wife told him that her Benny Brioche was an incredible way to serve eggs benny. The hollandaise was rich, the egg just right and the mahi mahi gravlax instead of ham was a perfect addition. We savored every bite and soaked in the incredible view from our table. Several hugs and pura vidas later, we saddled up the ATV and rode off into the dusty sun.
Chef Nico we will return, thank you and the staff for an amazing brunch and incredible chill views.

We have been going to Rocamar for 5 yrs now. It is close to where we stay and also fun to go to a place right on the beach, despite it previously being a hang out place. The food has always been fair..until this year. We had the most amazing food as a result of the new ownership; Jimmy and Nicholas, I believe. They are doing wonderful things in their kitchen now so do go to Rocamar! They serve breakfast and lunch but also dinner if you are seated before 6:30-7. This is no longer the party place and that is a very good thing. The new owners have stepped Rocamar up many notches and it shows! And there are vegan and vegetarian options that will blow your mind, in addition to other wonderful dishes. I'm a die hard Packer fan but I will absolutely say all good things about Rocamar, even tho they are the personal chefs for Tom and Giselle Brady when they are in Santa Teresa!!

Wow just wow ! This restaurant serves the best food in town by far. Delicate and stunning flavors. We stay with friends near by and went there every midday. Saturday’s they do super fancy dinner with amazing prices and they cover all the spectrum of diets. Gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian etc... good wine selection and for our surprise they even gave us an Amuse Bouche. Only place in town where they do this. It was a cold soup of fennel with microgreens and amazing presentation. The strip lion plate was just out of this planet. Servers are amazing and the bar drinks ultra fresh. We had a vegan white choco mousse as a dessert that it was like eating in New York or Berlin. A precious gem hidden away from the dust and traffic. I had the chance to talk to one of the owners which it’s also the executive chef and that guy knows his craft. I will for sure come back next year with my family and I will recommend this to everyone I know
Smoothies are organic and salads too, fresh fish and amazing corn tortillas for the tacos. Best guacamole I ever had

Came here for lunch and it’s a really lovely beach bar in a part of town which is otherwise lacking much of a vibe. This places brings it.
A few things let this place down. Firstly only one waitress can take orders on a tablet. Everyone else just brings out the food and cleans up. The service is slooooow even by Costa Rican standards. The menu choice was limited as they didn’t have any bowls, salads or ceviche. We went for fish tacos (recommended) and guacamole and chips.
We got up sold on cocktails without seeing the prices - asked for two mojito which were lovely so we got another two and we’re also shocked when the bill came. The most expensive lunch we’ve had in town by far at $62. Note to the owners - give us a cocktail menu. Bearing in mind how hard it is to get served more info upfront is better for the customer.

Ordered the burger which came cold (the cheese hadn't even melted) and half the chips were cold too so they probably used half of an old batch semi warmed up. They did offer to redo the burger which took 20 minutes but then the next one was inedible as the bun was burnt, see picture. In the end I just gave up and decided to go home to eat.
They did offer a free drink which was nice. However, note they charge for tap water which we thought was a little odd.

Recamar has one of the best atmospheres in Santa Teresa. Going to any bar/restaurant on the beach is pretty darn fantastic, but the feeling at this place is the best. Especially on Sunday afternoons. The music by Sebastian Longo is literally perfect and the best vibes around and such an eclectic mix. And the food by Nico F is insane!!!!!! I can't really say which meal I've liked best, but you can't go wrong with the fish burger and then of course the raw chocolate cake!
Don't miss out if you're in Santa Teresa...this is THE SPOT!

RocaMar. The most incredible, beautiful find that will forever be one of the most important memories of our entire lives.
My now husband and I are avid travelers with our favorite place being Costa Rica. We had been there several times and decided there was no better place to get married. We went a year before our wedding date to pick our venues and plan everything out. Long story short about 4 weeks before us and 30 other guests left everything fell through. Our dinner venue, reception venue and DJ all fell through. I had to replan everything in just a few weeks. A local wedding planner who knew exactly what she was doing pointed us in the direction of RocaMar, and let me tell you thank god everything prior fell through! Jim the owner stepped in and not only eased all my worries, he pulled off the most beautiful wedding me and my guests have ever been to in just a matter of weeks. The location was absolutely stunning, the staff was phenomenal and the food was honestly unreal. Jim doesn’t have a standard wedding menu to choose from. He sat us down, asked us what we liked and came up with a beautiful menu just for us. As he was listing off ideas I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to have such a passionate owner and chef. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE said it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding. Our vegan guests were even arguing that their meals and dessert was better than everyone else’s. They were so grateful that Jim put just as much effort and love into their experience as well. I could go on and on about how beautiful and life changing our experience was but it will never do it justice. Thank you Jim and your entire staff for what you did for us. I hope you understand the gift that you give to people. We can’t wait to come back!

Waited over an hour for food. While I sat there literally no food came out at all. Surrounding tables were on 2nd drinks, even those who sat down after me. Kitchen looked busy - extraordinary, what were they doing? It doesn’t take an hour for chicken tacos. Sitting here now 1 hour in and not a single table around me has food. Wait staff were sweet.
Update: They are just now bringing food to a table of 12 that arrived after us. I alerted them that I have sat here for an hour. They asked if my order was with salad or fries - when I noted I wasn’t asked that question an hour ago they tried to cover the fact my order clearly never went in. The restaurant is not busy. This is sheer incompetence.
The waitress who took the order, approached with an attitude after I alerted them I was waiting an hour. She plonked down like warms fries and said ‘on the house’.
So the food: tacos inedible. I got a mouthful of salt, twice. Don’t know if because they rushed the order. Sweet waitress (not the one who took the order) approached and apologised saying they were comping the tacos. She asked if I enjoyed and I honestly answered that I got a massive mouthful of salt. Left 1 taco uneaten (of two) and soggy fries.
I arrived in Costa Rica and Santa Teresa today. What a disappointment this dinner was. And I’m not a complainer. But this restaurant among the worst I’ve encountered.

So sorry to hear of your dreadful experience.... Our season has just begun and we're working with a new staff so we're not always perfect (we're human, we make mistakes) but fortunately for us other clients in your same position might take a moment to communicate with their server rather than angrily jumping on tripadvisor to berate our business. It's clear that there was an error on our part and also clear that our team did in fact make an effort to rectify the situation but sadly the effort wasn't enough to pacify this blatant attempt to ruin your holiday (on day one, nonetheless!). Luckily for you Santa Teresa is full of wonderful restaurants and I most certainly hope you've found one that met your standards.

We love going to Rocamar for the perfect setting right on the beach close up to the ocean! You can watch the surf and kids are free to run around in the sand. The ocean breeze and outside dining is perfect! My kids love the burgers and hand-cut fries! I love the Green bowl! There is something for everyone. Vegan chickpea salad sandwich is delish as is the ceviche, guac, and house-made chips! Early dinner for sunset is awesome if you don't make it for lunch.

We arrived at this place around 1:15 pm and found a free table already after a few mins. Unfortunately after approx 25 mins no one approached us totake our order. So we went to the bar to order our lunch directly there. We were sent back tothe table with the information that the responsible totake orders wouldbe right withus in a few minutes. After another 30 mins still no one was taking care about our orders. So I tried to order our food and drinks again directly at the bar. This time I was told that the kitchen had too many orders already and they would stop to take new orders. So we had to move and look for another place.

From our first dinner in Playa Santa Teresa till our final meal over 10 days, Rocamar was the go to place for my best friend and I during our surf trip! The food was spot on and the drinks/beers could not be enjoyed in a more chill and gorgeous setting each day!
The entire staff was incredible, friendly, and inviting each time of the many we hang there. Always a conversation yet the food and drinks there in a heartbeat.
The local pups only added to the fun and joy this place brought us each day.
No trip to the area would be complete without a beverage and taking in the ocean views and breezes.
This place truly embraces the Pura Vida lifestyle that blew us away. Can't wait to be back in the future to see our dog and human friends we made on our journey.

We had a lovely afternoon at rocomar, we stayed on the beach for the sunset with our foldaway chairs and a cooler and moved in for dinner once the sun went down. Service was swift enough. ‘World famous fish tacos” sadly weren’t good, they were cold and the tortillas were not fresh. The cheeseburger and the tuna empanada special were incredibly good however- delicoius. A nice craft beer each alongside came to about £35. We then moved our chairs down again to watch the stars, it’s a great dark area, about a 15 min walk from our hotel at the north end of ST (which was not fun in the midday heat). One thing to note, we came because we read that Sundays are a special party at rocamr with a bbq, fire dancers and bonfire etc. we didn’t see any of this, there was a few steaks on a fire that ran out before 6pm and a dj but no theatrics or a bonfire - we wondered if it’s because we came on Easter Sunday not a regular Sunday. Still enjoyed oirselves though. Great quiet spot

We love this place. It’s right on the beach, but on the more quiet and mellow end. So the beach is pristine here and not crowded.
Food is excellent, very good quality. Tacos are great, burgers, fried chicken - all tasty and outstanding. Young coconut juice is fun right out of the shell and you can scrape the jelly at the end. The staff is so friendly and they open until 8, which makes it a nice romantic, quiet spot to have dinner with the waves rolling by.

Had some of the best tacos that I’ve ever had - and I visit Mexico often / live near Mexico. It’s crazy because there wasn’t much on the Chicken Tacos, but there was exceptional flavor. Can’t recommend getting the Chicken Tacos enough - do it! Also great ambiance eating right on the beach. Saw locals and tourists both enjoying their time here. It’s worth a try.

Came here for the last 3 years and still the service is the worst in Santa Teresa I don’t understand why but they just can’t get it right. The food is good the vibe is nice the view is lovely but the service is too frustrating. If you (owners) are reading, pls get a grip on the dogs because there is always a fight and the service 🙏🏼

Very happy to hear you enjoy the food and the view. We're also big fans of both! We're constantly working on new systems to improve the service however the biggest issue is that everyone always comes at once (i.e sunset) and it's nearly impossible to keep up but believe me, we're trying our best. Sadly there's not much we can do about the dogs. They come with their owners, they come from the neighbors, they come on their own. We're essentially the beach and I can assure you that we're far more frustrated with unruly pets at Rocamar than you are. If you have any ideas on how to improve service or deal with aggressive dogs/irresponsible dog owners we're certainly open to suggestion.
