we stopped here, like every one else, after visiting the caves and Marokopa Falls. Like many places in NZ, the exterior belies what lies within... Very friendly, cozy place. Nice views. Friendly staff. Interesting menu. Nice selection of beers and wines. Creative and interesting menu without being pretentious. We had 2 Kings Brewery beers...the pale ale and the IPA. The... More

Most of the food was delicious and hearty (rump steak in particular was great value and beautifully tender) though the pork salad was not well received- apparently and odd combination of salad flavours. Desert was heavenly. Service was friendly if patchy and the staff seemed to allow smoking by the front door and on the deck close to the dinning... More

Ate dinner here while spending a night in Waitomo. Food was great and good selection of drinks on tap. Risotto and Lamb Shank was great and it was nice to find such a nice restaurant in such a small town.

After dragging ourselves out of a wet cave we loved the warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere. And to top it off the meal was delicious...absolutely loved the gnocchi!! Wish we had more time for dessert!!

Nice food, slow service. Cafe style environment at higher end restaurant price. Our vinyl booth seat was ripped, food portions were somewhat small. Tip to owner- nice food but you need to up your game a bit on ambiance, speed and serving size.

The rewana garlic bread is awesome, and the restaurant has a nice elevated view out over the small town. There is a small selection of craft beers from the local brewery too. The kids menu was an added bonus that we didn't expect.

Description
HUHU Cafe offers visitors to Waitomo the opportunity to sample great New Zealand cuisine in a beautiful setting. We offer a delicious evening menu, perfect for enjoying with a cold one on the sunny deck after a hard day's caving or glow-worm spotting! You can enjoy delicious treats such as Caramelised Garlic & Goats Cheese Tart, Wild Rabbit Hotpot, Organic Rib-Eye, Dark Chocolate Souffle & Poached Tamarillos to name but a few (please note that our menu changes on a regular basis, depending on what we can source from our suppliers). Wherever possible, we use local providers - our lamb comes from farms around Te Kuiti, our cheese from Putaruru & our berries (when in season) are from Piopio. Our wine list consists of a number of great New Zealand wine varieties and our beer list features a selection of boutique beers to whet the whistle! Cosy up by our woodburner during the winter months or chill out on our deck over summer... Have we tempted your tastebuds? Well then, we look forward to seeing you at HUHU sometime soon!
