We discovered Ciderhuset by chance; it is a little outside of the centre of Balestrand and we were afraid to get lost. It is a beautiful location in the middle of lush orchards. The restaurant serves good food. The cider tasting is fun. We bought several bottles in the shop downstairs. Definitely worth a little detour!

I had never imagined that I would get to taste norwegian cider in Balestrand. The whole tasting experience is perfect. But the coupe that run the bussiness, wow, I cannot give you details cause I might spoil the thing, but ask them to take you into the room where they keep the 2 years cider barrels and sing. OMG!

The Ciderhuset is a 'must do' when in Balestrand. It's tucked away but a real gem when you get there. The food is fantastic and the ciders to die for. We had just come off the trek on the hills above Balestrand and really felt at one with the terrain - drinking it's cider and eating it's pears. Thanks for... More

We visited late in the afternoon for a tour and a cider tasting. We had a great experience. Our host was the grandson of the founder and, in the span of about 25 minutes, shared some of the history of the family business and the cider making process. It's a pretty impressive operation. Our host/guide gave an entertaining and engaging... More

Balestrand is a wonderful town to break up the 'Nutshell' tour of the Sognefjord, and if you are going to spend the night, this is the best possible place for dinner. A short walk from the hotels, a terrific view of the fjord from the dining room, wonderful food served with warmth from a super-friendly staff.

First, you must have a flight of five (or three) ciders. Second, I recommend leaning toward tapas with a Turkish flavor -- they were surprisingly good. Beautiful view from the dining room.

A family run restaurant which is based around a cider making enterprise. You can have a tour of the cider making facility and sample many of the wares afterwards for about K30. The tapas menu for lunch is interesting and we enjoyed the variety. There was plenty to eat but there is also a selection of puddings afterwards if you... More

This family run restaurant is pure joy to dine in. The staff are warm, friendly and caring. The food is lovingly prepared and well thought out - a choice of Turkish mese or the main course of the day. The restaurant is a glass house with pleasant decor able to absorb the sound of people chatting. It overlooks one of... More

Who said Norway was no good for vegetarians? Shared a delicious variety of dishes. The flavours oozed freshness. Too this off with a hand crafted pear cider (not my usual tipple but had to stoo myself having a second) and the mesmerising views from the conservatory and we were in heaven. Prices seem in line with Norway's general level of... More
