wow what an amazing experience. Damith is an amazing teacher and professional chef but this is also a hands on class using different techniques to make simple vegetables taste incredible. Along with garlic rice, we made coconut rotis, aubergine sweet and sour, green bean curry...and roasted pumpkin, a zingy coconut sambal and kicking dhal. And then you get to eat it!More

We had the Eastern breakfast, rotti, dhal, and some some sort of onion and tomato salsa, super tasty, best dhal we have had in Sri Lanka. The owner has great English too and is a brilliant host. Breakfast comes with tea and fruit juice for...400 rupee per person. 10/10More

What an amazing experience - a must do in Ella. We cracked open a coconut and made coconut milk from scratch to mix with fresh village spices and vegetables and make the following dishes with our fantastic chef Demi: coconut Rotti, Red Rice, Dhal Curry,...Pumpkin Curry, Green Beans, Aubergine Curry and Coconut Salad. The experience was fantastic - learning how to cook Sri Lankan dishes and eating the meal we prepared after. Everything was delicious. I can't thank Nanda Restaurant and Demi enough for the experience. I recommend everyone to do a class at 11am or 5pm, when visiting Ella.More

We ate here one evening, and did the cooking class the next night. Damith (sp?) is a lovely host & excellent chef. The food is typical local dishes, cooked perfectly. The Brinjal is particularly amazing. Damith is friendly & chatty, and provides a level of...quality that you don’t find further along Ella ‘high street’ where the bars/restaurants all have menus designed for tourists. Highly recommended.More

I can't rate this experience enough! Our instructor was fantastic and had clear communication. We learnt 8 different dishes and all of them were yummy!! We did this as a group of 6, all friends with varying cooking experience. We had a great time and...are very grateful. Big thanks!More

Dumi, the chef/teacher taught us about local spices and how to use them in different dishes. He adapted the recipes for our delicate tastebuds and we made mild and medium spiced curries. His lesson flowed nicely with everyone getting an equal chance to chop, mix...and cook. Making coconut milk, dahl and roti was my family's favourite. Then we sat back and enjoyed the spoils of our labour. YUM!!! Thank you Dumi!More

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with the food during our recent visit to Sri Lanka. Knowing we’d have trouble finding good, authentic Sri Lankan back home, as well as it being a rainy day in Ella, we decided to do this cooking...class... And aren’t we glad we did! In 2 hours, Damith showed us how to prepare the most delicious and surprisingly simple Sri Lankan food from scratch... From cracking a coconut (and learning how to use every last bit of it!) to making pol roti, a number of vegetable curries and pandan rice - this was truly such a memorable experience! If you love Sri Lankan food, you must do this class. It was so affordable and seriously incredible food. We can’t wait to get home and make these recipes again.More

My man Damith sorted us out with a banging cooking class. From start to finish he was dropping knowledge bombs left right and centre about the various ingredients and methods used in Sri Lankan cuisine. It lasted 2 hours and we got to eat the...peng food afterwords (hella lot). His English is spot on too. If you want to learn about Sri Lankan cuisine, Damith is the geeza!More

We ate at Nanda after getting off the train, as it is very close to the railway station. Damith offered the cooking class for the next day, but my husband didn’t want to go. The price at this time was 1800 per person, so I...was able to convince him. We started at 4:30pm and make dish after dish for 90 minutes. It was all vegan, but you would never have even noticed you were “missing” meat. I thought this activity was a great value and we got a feast to boot! I will try to implement some of the things I learned at home. We made two salads, a bread rotti, dahl or lentil curry, roasted coconut squash curry, a green bean dish, and eggplant dish. There was a lot more involved than I mentioned. We even had to break open and grind the coconut we used for every recipe! We also made coconut milk. I loved this experience. And, I think we could potentially do it more nights and make different recipes as he mentioned that is his goal, that people can choose the ingredients they want to make. A+ experience. Highly recommend!!!!More
