The restaurant is on three floors and for me the top floor is the best. A cool breeze filtered through the Balinese style building and chilaxing music gave the whole ambience a step up. The food is very “westernised” and is by comparison with some more local restaurants expensive but five of us ate a substantial meal with drinks and coffees for £40 The staff were child friendly and we felt relaxed with a two year old and a 4 month old baby. Definitely worth a visit.

Due to slightly rainy afternoons, I spent quite some hours at Cafe Chill, just deeply enjoying the relaxed atmosphere & superb coffee. I was served with the kindest smile by a young man who introduced himself to me as Lasa – his pleasant energy really, truly brightened my days! Furthermore there was nice music, clean bathrooms, a beautifully designed upstairs area, reallllly great smells from the kitchen, and an extensive menu. A bit pricey if you usually eat local, but actually really fairly priced for the great quality & wonderful presentation of their meals. No plastic straws, either!

Worth the queuing!

We had an amazing meal here today in Ella - I would highly recommend eating here at some stage while you’re in Ella. They have a varied breakfast, lunch and dinner menu with just the right amount of choice of western and Sri Lanka specialities. Prices are slightly higher than some other places but I think the quality of the food definitely allows for the higher price - also the server (Vidal) who looked after us was absolutely amazing and went above and beyond - it made the experience even better than it already was.

A little hyped

To start with, one can't expect good service in a diner full of 200ppl, but here the service was extremely slow. The guy came to pick up the order after 50mins. A glass of water took one hour. We ordered burgers which were too heavy, portion size this big was appreciated and we had had to pack half of our burgers. The cocktails were no where close to kick ass as we read in some reviews, tbh only decent. The music stopped at 10pm. It's an ok place, but not worth the queue or the hype.

Very disrespectful

I went with my mother, I called the waiter (Salindar) twice until he came, he didn't even look at us while he took the order and his breath smells alcohol. A dog came next to my mom and she is scared of dogs, we called him to help us let the dog go away, he didn't assist us at all, we had to talk to another waiter, and on the spot he assisted us. When the food arrived, we asked for an extra plate, he told us he’ll bring one, after 8 minutes of waiting, we told another waiter, he brought it in 5 seconds. He never came to our table to check as he went to all the other tables around us, which was very rude. We tried to speak with the manager, but apparently they work like a gang and none of them want us to speak to the manager, they even brought one waiter and tried to fake it by saying he’s the manager and when we asked for evidence he ran away. It was just pathetic how they dealt with us. Maybe because my mother wore a hijab or something, I’m not sure, but he was very nice to everyone except for us. Very disappointed!!!

Really chill

Went here for every lunch and diner because it was so chill. Especially the hard working and incredibly friendly staff. Although the place is almost always busy food is delivered quick and with constant quality for every dish on the menu for reasonable prices. And this all on some nice beats. So sorry for the other great places in Ella we have missed but this was just the go to place for us. Thanks!

Best Chill Food In Chill Cafe Ella

We have visited Chill Cafe more than 15 times and all was great! Last time we had typical Sri lanka food and yesterday beef burgers, both were tasty. Just Sri lankas food was little spicy, but it wasn’t so bad. Prices are all the times higher compare to local prices, but the food is served really nice, it’s build in Bali style and has good atmosphere and even thought it’s full you get food really fast. Definitely one of the best food what we had here. This is a very cool and atmospheric place, pretty much a must in Ella, despite It being on the pricier side in Sri Lankan terms. Nevertheless Chill is definitely worth it, always packed full of people with yummy (and pretty) mostly Western food and awesome servers (I really liked Saman, he’s very helpful and fun to talk to). We came here over and over again during my stay in Ella with foreign tourist, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Awsome place! Good vibes, music, nice staff, lovely design and food was excelent (served at the timing of just one cigar). Also quite affordable prices. Good job, guys! ... Highly Recommended Chill Cafe In Ella !!!

A few meals at Cafe Chill

We had lunch and two dinners at Cafe Chill whilst we stayed in Ella. There can sometimes be a queue outside (it is very busy!) - although that is not to say there are no tables. There is no one really showing people into tables - we walked in and mostly found a table to sit at quite quickly ourselves. The food was tasty and plentiful. The first night we both had rice and curry, for lunch we both had the beef burger, and that evening we had rice and curry/margarita pizza. Good sized portions and reasonably priced (For the two of us each meal was less than 3,000 LKR and included a beer each). Service was good.

Don’t believe the hype

Let’s face it, this restaurant is average. The music and vibe is oppressive, the food is average at best and the menu is overpriced. Forget that everyone is going in their droves, you’ll be better off eating elsewhere. We’ve eaten brilliantly in Sri Lanka since arriving and this has been the most disappointing meal. It caters for Western taste and as a result, the food is bland and the atmosphere is naff. I’ve given it two stars as I am judging it against the guide book recommendation and the Trip Advisor hype.

Poor customer service

Popular place at Ella town, always crowded, food is in this place really taste.prices little bit expensive but food quality is valuable for the money.beautiful and clean restaurant, they have any type of food and drinks, I went to this place for the dinner, taste was delicious,but reason my low rating is Service,that person who served food to us is very unhelpful and not cared about us, there is lot of foreign customers and few local customers like us, I noticed this person not caring only local customers, i don't know why he don't like local customers, i am very disappointed about this place. I can highly recommend the taste and qulity of the food in this place, but i can't recommend the service,If you are a Local customer I'm not recommend to go to this place

A busy spot with delicious food

A busy spot with a regular queue on the Main Street in Ella, Cafe Chill is a buzzy, happening spot. Everything is very well prepared, with many little details (like house baked breads) particularly appreciated. Best burger I’ve had in Sri Lanka, juice and subtly flavoured with herbs and garlic. Appetizers, salads, soups and enters are all very well prepared.

Best bar in Ella

Our favourite bar in Ella. Great service and atmosphere. All food on the menu looks and tastes great. Local and western food available and all good value. Sometimes have to wait for a table queuing outside at peak times but only takes 10 mins and worth the wait.

Lovely location’ especially with the Balinese roof top bar where you could sit on cushions and have views over Ella rock. attentive and servíce minded staff. Lasa being one of many waiters who made us feel welcome and got us excellent food and drinks

We both had a pizza which was freshly cooked and delicious. The cafe was very busy so understandably we had to wait a while to to be served. The waiters were very efficient and kept a careful eye on proceedings so you didn't feel forgotten and it was definitely worth the wait-the best pizza ever.

A must in Ella

Great food and atmosphere. A wide selection of food and drinks. We had lunch at the top floor where it was quieter and cooler than the ground floor. We had lunch and ordered Sri Lankan and Western dishes which were all lovely. Loved the fact that they used paper straws and timber tumblers to serve the drinks. Lunch with fresh fruit juice cost approx AUD11 per head.
