I had visited Plaka Grill a few years ago and had reported that the food was poor. I went again today and the food is just as awful. Specifically: I ordered a staple Greek dish, Mousaka which is a baked disk consisting primarily (but not...exclusively) of ground beef, bechamel sauce, and eggplant with assorted aromatic spices.. What I got was something that was unevenly heated, indicating that a microwave over reheated it. The eggplant was in major need of additional cooking because it was near raw. The dish lacked any taste; Mousaka (and all baked Greek dishes) is supposed to have aromatic spices suitable for each dish (oregano, nutmeg, etc); what I got had none of that;no, salt and pepper are NOT "spices". The potatoes on the side were supposed to have been cut-up baked potatoes (with the tell-tale shade of color of anything that is baked) with lemon and again, aromatic spices. What I got was cut up boiled potatoes that had no taste nor texture. I then ordered "souvlaki", a term abused by US-based restaurants that advertise themselves to serve Greek food, to include just about anything that is based on meat. This one was "gyro", which is again supposed to be flavorful with aromatic spices, a little darker color on the side that is exposed to the heating element and less brown on the other side. It came with what Plaka called :"french fries" that were soggy and without even a hint of the delightful yellow tint that properly fried potatoes are supposed to have. The "salad" part was a couple of bites of mostly lettuce (no self-respecting souvlaki in Greece is served with lettuce) and a single speck of tomato that was not ripe and had no taste. No salad dressing. Not a single person among the many staff of,Plaka when I went there (some 7-8 folks, three of which were just hanging around the eating area) were Greek; for a Greek restaurant, even this would be tolerable if someone who knows how to prepare Greek food had tutored the staff on how to prepare the dishes that were advertised as Greek. Judging from the taste, there was no evidence of that. All in all, a huge disappointment. And no, I am not picky: if the rules of Trip Advisor permitted it, I would have listed a number of other Greek restaurants within 10-20 miles from Plaka that have been serving truly delicious Greek food. Dismissing Plaka as a "fast food" place is not an acceptable excuse because its competition charged me the same prices for the same meals I ordered at Plaka) that tasted superb at those other restaurants. I suppose that we only have ourselves to blame. Plaka seems to be doing financially well because its customers must not know any better.More

Plaka is my Goto place for Gyros. When I treat myself to a gyro this is the best one I know. Good price and great taste.

We were at the Container Store a few miles away, and stopped here for lunch. The moussaka and Chicago gyro were delicious. The fresh feta chunks in the side salad with the moussaka were especially delicious, and the potatoes were a nice balance with the...slight sweetnesses the eggplant.More

Great food, including the original, authentic Greek souvlaki at an affordable price. Has an element of a "fast food place" but the food is far from being a "fast food" type food. Great place for an informal lunch or dinner. Great value too!

Nice staff with great food, excellent for take away. It is also a good casual place to have bite. I enjoy the roasted chicken.

There is a lot restaurants that offer Greek food particularly Gyro sandwiches. PALAKA is one of the best I have had in the VA. area. The dining area is small so if you want to come for lunch get there before the rush, or you...will be waiting in line to order and for a place to site. Quality and quantity are great.More

I had the Pkaka salad with Chicago gyro meat and my husband had the Chicago gyro because last week I had the gyro and he...had a special of the day shredded lamb with rice pilaf which he thoroughly enjoyed but no available today. I've spent a lot of time in Greece and while I wouldn't call Plaka fully authentic, it's damn close! The place is nothing fancy but the food and service are excellent! The Melitzanosalata was great, calamari was perfectly cooked and the Lamb Kapama was De-freaking-Lish

The food is excellent (especially the shrimp dish) and authentic. The atmosphere is.cheerful and congenial. Why the 4 stars? You order at the counter and eat off styrofoam. This wouldn't be that bad (OK, substitute something for the styrofoam) but, while the prices are moderate/reasonable,...a server and real plate would represent better value. Just the same, Plaka is worth checking out, very much worth it.More
