Most of the customers are local folks. There are daily specials including oxtail soup and Kalbi. Cost is not cheap, but portions are ample. Free parking on premises. Not a fancy restaurant to take a date, but adequate for family night out on the town.

Would have probably never tried this restaurant on my own, but we went here on a food tour and I am SO glad we did. We tried the Oxtail Soup and I have been thinking about it ever since. It was AMAZING, one of my favorite dishes from Hawaii.

Located in Kaakaako on Ward Avenue, it was a busy lunch hour with lots of people ordering take out. The inside seats were all taken with a waiting line. I put my order in and sat outside on the picnic bench – they had 2. Had an OK view of the Blaisdell Arena area and mountains. It took a while... More

Stopped by to check out the Hawaiian menu and was happy with what we found. The orders were taken quickly, even though it was very busy, and the food came out remarkably quick. We had mainly soups and a loco moco, and all were delicious and we will come back to check out other items on the menu.

The Asahi Grill is a small restaurant, pretty close to the definition of a hole in the wall... I have been in places that are definitely holes in the walls (like Ethel's Grill), but Asahi Grill is a step up... Parking is limited around Asahi Grill... The service is good and fairly quick. We tried the Ox Tail Soup.... it... More

We enjoyed the food and the prices were low. The place really needs a little touch up and a little paint. The menu could be cleaned up and the paper taped to the tables could be removed. Try it and you may find the food is enough.

We regularly come to Asahi Grill for lunch but today we went here for a very early dinner. The place needs a facelift but we don't mind because it's clean, service is friendly, and the food is good. Tonight we had their popular oxtail soup (which rivals The Alley's oxtail soup) and the saba (mackerel) fish entree with brown rice,... More

My Japanese friend raved about this place, so I had to try. It was busy all right. It was an unusually humid night when we went there. We ordered THE FAMOUS oxtail soup of course. It was just OK to me. Nothing spectacular. I was hoping a good broth. Tons of cilantro didn't do much either. I felt like my... More

I was a bit disappointed with my first visit as the food was only okay and the menu average. Its typical, greasy stuff loaded with lots of calories and typical stuff like fried fish or oxtail soup.
