We had a great experience here. We sat at the bar because there was a wait and I highly recommend this. The bartender was awesome! I wasn’t sure what li hing was when we ordered our cocktails so he brought me some on a pineapple...to try. I got the fish tacos which were amazing but my husband wasn’t sure what to get and the bartender made sure to bring him a sample of the dish he didn’t order. It was the spicy moco or something along those lines. Very good. Then he made us dessert drinks on the house. Loved the atmosphere and the food and service!!More

My husband and I stopped here for dinner. I had the tasting plate which came with several Hawaiian dishes including chicken lau lau, poi, lomi salmon, kalua pig, squid luau, chicken long rice, sweet potato, and haupia. The dishes were all very different. I enjoyed...all of them except the poi. My favorites were the haupia which is a sweet dessert and the squid luau which tasted like oyster stew. My husband had a kids quesadilla. He thought it was poorly cooked and expected more from it. The bill has a 5% surcharge to help pay the kitchen staff. Parking in the lot is free if properly validated.More

My wife, me and a friend ate here once. I'd go back. The service was exceptional. The food was so good. And the price was worth it. Our server even let me try poi before I ordered it. I'm glad he did. I got something...else! Loved the food; the pork, the rice, all of it.More

I was excited to find this place on TA. I'm going to call it a Hawaiian diner. Definitely check it out for local favorites... and get the Loco moco! Hawaiian comfort food! I liked that their menu made it so easy to try so many...different things. Fun fact that I learned here: Hawaiians love their macaroni salad!More

I love trying local food when I visit somewhere new and the Highway Inn had awesome combo plates that allowed us to try various Hawaiian cuisine. The pork lau lau tasting plate was excellent! The restaurant stays very crowded, but it is worth the wait.

Sat at the bar and ate laulau chicken topped with a sunnyside up egg and with fried rice as a base. Enough food for two. Best to go and share a bunch of plates! There's a few boutiques in the Salt complex to warrant a...stop for coffee or to hang out for a bit. Would definitely like to try some more Hawaiian classics!More

This place was already on our list of potential restaurants even before we got an extra recommendation from our sunset cruise captain. We were only a party of four and couldn’t get a reservation so we knew we’d have to wait a while so we...got there on the early side (5pm on a Friday) and only maybe waited about 10 minutes. The place was definitely hopping with both locals and tourists who had obviously done the research as well. We were all quite pleased with what we ate. I had the chicken lau lau and my husband had the super combo lau lau with the added squid. My son had ribs and my daughter (a vegetarian) had a substantial house salad with a side of of ‘uala. Definitely put this on your list of places to visit. It felt incredibly authentic as well as offered simply great food and great service!More

My daughter who is stationed in Honolulu invited us to eat here. Established in the 1940’s we had a late breakfast/ early lunch . It was delicious and very reasonably priced. My daughter had the Smoked Moco…..I tried it….Awesome! I had the pancakes (perfection) and...my husband had the Kama’aina Breakfast! Great choice. Huge portions! Park in the Salt parking lot right in front of the restaurant. Give your ticket to the waiter and they will validate it for you!More

We ate here on our last night on the way to the airport having read lots of reviews and recommendations. It was a pleasant surprise, we welcomed the affordable menu pricing compared to what we had been paying on the Waikiki strip all week. Our...party had the Hawaiian Beef Stew which was very good although not that "different" from "Wisconsin" beef stew. Still excellent and very delicious. My husband ordered the Kailua Pork and cabbage and that was amazing! If you are looking for a more authentic Hawaiian dish I'd recommend that! Everything was delicious and everyone in our party left full and satisfied and the wallet really appreciated this place! Excellent, I recommend!!!More

My wife and I travel to domestic locations across the US in search of the perfect restaurant. In our opinion what classifies a close to perfect restaurant. • Service-kitchen and wait staff • Food Presentation • Food Taste and Quality • Pricing • Menu selection...• Ambiance. 1 Star = good in all categories 2 Stars = Great in all categories 3 Stars = excellent in all categories 4 Stars = exceptional in all categories 5 stars= they parted the water and walked through it. (Just kidding). We have not in our opinion found a five star restaurant. Honolulu-Highway Inn--Super large portions, Food was excellent tasting. Staff need a little training on customer service.More

The menu and recipes have changed since the opening and my last visit. Those of us that have grown up eating at the original place since the 60s on Depot Road in Waipahu will be disappointed. The food here is OK but to come in...at 0900 hrs, opening when the website and phone messages says 0830 and then being they do not have Naau Puaa is a bummer and the butter fish stew gravy is fried with the gravy in another dish is a total let down. Service and wait staff as well as back kitchen is great but then I'm old and was expecting something familiar. So; this place is great and probably held in high esteem from a younger generation but coming from a baby boomer the original Highway Inn menu and recipes cannot be matched in taste and old school feel. I had the beef stew, lomi ahi, butterfish stew gravy, onoins/salt, and rice, Ala carte Gabe NicholasMore

Thanks for being a great customer. Sadly the suppliers are currently out of na’au and we have adjusted our hours - all because of the Covid Pandemic. We can't explain the variance in stated hours. We do our best to keep all of those copasetic.
