I first read about Hunan in a magazine for Honolulu's best something. They were showcasing the cumin lamb chops. At $35 it's really pricy compared to the majority of the menu and really is an outlier. Truth be told this was enough to make me come back for repeat business. If I'm here I'm getting the lamb. I also really... More

Just happened past the restaurant on the way to Chinatown and my son wanted to eat. Went in and got promptly served. We ordered orange chicken, which came with wonton soup, and the house fried rice The food was very good and hit the spot. The inside of the restaurant left us concerned a bit about the cleanliness. Nothing we... More

The managers/staff are very pleasant. We love Sichuan and Hunan food, but our dishes (Sichuan Cold Noodles, Kung Pou Chicken and Spick Lamb with Cumin) were rather bland and had none of the wonderful tingling/numbing sensation from the proper use of good Sichuan peppercorns. Of the three dishes, the Lamb was the clear winner. We will go again and try... More

Sucks. Not Hunan food. Just typical plain Chinese. So disappointing since we know and love Hunan food. This place is right across the street from where we live -- and we'll never go back.

The place is not much to look at-small, about 6 tables, bad lighting-but man oh man what great food! It is the best chinese food I've had in the past 20 years, and may be the best I've ever had-no hyperbole. I had the spicy fish-fish was tender and fres, sauce was outstanding. Wife had General Tso's shrimp, son had... More

I lived in Hawaii and used to go almost every week to have green beans in sezchuan chilly there, after I visited China and tasted this dish. The dish is very well served and still I can eat the whole dish by myself. The Mapu Tofu is another dish I always order, as a vegetarian. What I like the most... More

This is a hidden gem in Honolulu and has the best Chinese food on the island. I will grant you that this is not a place you go for ambiance, but that is not what it is about. If you want authentic, spicy Hunan (and Sichuan) fare, this is the spot. The owners and staff are always friendly and welcoming... More

Here are some of my favorites. Smoked chicken, Chinese okra, cumin lamb, garlic shrimp, and a extremely hot but delicious stir fried sliced pork and sliced green pepper /jalapeño called farmhouse pork. You gotta try this restaurant at least once. A mom and pop operation. An attractive daughter as the only English speaker.
