I gave it 4 stars because they were short on staff and the order and service were slow. It's a little far away, but once you go there you'll remember it. It's best to go here by car, so you might as well go by Uber. First, wait before the restaurant opens and enter. The atmosphere is nice, but somehow there aren't enough people. It takes a while for them to come even after they've sat down. First, the recommended course and the recommended mango lassi! It takes a while to come, but you should definitely try this. It was the most delicious lassi I've ever had. The portions are large, but most people order to go. We really wanted to eat two types for two people, so we couldn't finish it. There was a lot of curry, the lassi was large, the naan was normal size, and there was a lot of saffron rice. It was about $70 in total for two people, but it was delicious, so I left a $30 tip. No, they didn't have enough staff, so I was looking forward to the next time lol I'm going again in June, so I'm looking forward to Maharani!

We showed up at 8:20pm and were informed they stopped orders at 8. They offered what was left and we took them up on their offer. Large portions and everything was delicious. Check out the photos. Recommend you go before 8pm but go. It was delicious.

The cafe is inviting and looks clean - was very busy when we went . The food was good and we really enjoyed the papri chat . The alooparatha were so so ! The yellow daal was tasty . We had a good experience until I went to wash my hands - the toilets were dirty - the seat was horribly stained and sink looked like it hadn’t been clean - this changed my view of this restaurant instantly - If attention is not paid to the toilets made me think what sort of attention was paid in the preparation of the food !

It’s been a couple of years, basically pre-Covid, since we ate here. Back then it was one of our favorite restaurants , back then it was worth queueing and waiting for a table, it was worth being squeezed cheek by jowl into the closely packed tables with other diners. Back then it was worth putting up with the loud chatter and shrilled shrieks of laughter in the confines of the modest sized room. Unfortunately not so now. The food has gone downhill to a point where we would be reluctant to repeat the experience. The vegetable samosas, although a good size stuffed with peas, potatoes & carrots were devoid of flavor, the sauces served with them did try to breathe back some life into them. The same can be said for the oily papadums. Main dishes of saffron rice and chicken tikka Masala arrived at tepid heat level, trying repeatedly to gain someone’s attention, they were finally taken back to be reheated unfortunately this didn’t improve them, the chicken was tough and the tikka sauce was bland. The vegetable jalfrezi on the other hand was just pain horrible, far too much cumin, which had taken over any other flavor and left a bitter gritty sensation. Requesting as we always do for the naan’s to be well done/ crispy, the request was ignored, they were thin but they were not well done. Gaining anyones attention there is a feet not to be attempted by the faint of heart, but finally after 8 or 9 attempts we managed to ask for the check. The waitress didn’t express any inquisitiveness as to why we didn’t want take out boxes for the barely touched food. Paid and left, never to return

To go dinner with shrimp tandoori, there was no sauce whatsoever and the onions and green peppers were not even sautéed, almost like an after thought. I have been ordering here for years and normally love their food. Hope it doesn't happen again

Fantastic Indian food served family style (large portions). Four of us ordered Chicken Boti (flavorful cubed chicken cooked in the tandoori oven), Lamb Vindaloo, and Vegetable Korma. All three had different heat levels and wonderful flavors. Yellow rice came with the Korma and our Boti came with regular naan. We ordered cheese garlic naan, both naans were fantastic. We had sauces the spiciest being the bean chili. There was a mint tamarind chutney, and a spiced yogurt. I can't say enough about how great this food was...we waited about 20 minutes for a table.

Eggplant Tikka Korma contained prawn tails. We are vegetarians and relied on Cafe Maharani to deliver to our expectations. However, we now know and would like the public to be aware that they may not receive what exactly ordered. Our vacation to Hawaii has really been spoiled by this Restaurant's service. Used Doordash Waikike Hawaii, also put in the review straight whilst eating mid-way however till to-date Doordash has not posted the review.

No Indian flavors and absolutely terrible customer service and they are very rude and that’s because there are only very few Indian places on Oahu. But do your self a favor and just don’t bother with Indian restaurant in Hawaii and save it for other nicer places either on mainland US or whenever your coming from, just try other good places in Oahu / Hawaii. And not to mention terrible inconsistent timing, they close randomly and take forever for orders. I have been on Oahu for 2 years now and this review is after trying this place multiple times giving them benefit of doubt and craving Indian food. But I completely gave up and this place is absolutely crap in every way possible.

Food was terrible! Wait was 1.5 hours. Appetizers were refried multiple times! Entrees had no taste. Only naan was good. Kids had bad stomach ache after their food - please avoid.

The food didn’t had Indian flavors at all. Green chutney was awkwardly different, no good options for vegetarian people. We went there because online they had more options on menu but when we got there they had their own laminated paper menu from which we had to choose, i was disappointed. Chef needs to get more hands on how to make authentic Indian food, not to make sweet vegetable dishes.

I try and have at least one Indian meal whenever I am overseas. At Honolulu came to know of this cafe. Must admit that the food was good. Not overly expensive either. Being vegetarian, the options were not many though.

Restaurant closes at 10 pm as advertised everywhere . We arrived @ 9.20 Om , walked into the restaurant and were told to wait outside. As they were not ready fir us . We waited for 39 minutes outside and then went in to check and this is when we were told by the cashier that they could not serve us !!!! Poor customer service not interested in our business not worried that we had waited fir 39 minutes , nor customer service training in a Tourist town regardless of how good the food is , you don’t look after your customer you don’t deserve a good review , the owners need to be aware of this looser served by their staff !! Highly never will come back it recommend.. POOR POOR POOR

Went there at 8:30 PM, closing time was 10 PM. The arrogant and rude British-sounding manager refused to seat us, so we ordered take-out (not many Indian restaurants in the neighborhood). Asked us to wait outside while the food was being prepared. In the meanwhile, there were clearly seats available within the restaurant. The food itself, while edible, was un-authentic and sub-par. Avoid at all costs..
