We had some locals tell us about this place so we decided to check it out. You know it's gonna be good when you walk up and people are standing outside waiting for a table. Very friendly people and the food was good. A must try if you want something me authentic Hawaiin cuisine.

We arrived at around 3pm, and would had to wait. So we ended up getting it to go, we ate it 2 hours later and it was still good. A good place to eat some traditional food. Ribs are good, similar to how it is made in Korean restaurants. Coconut pudding is yummy. Luna chicken is not bad either.

Close to Bishop Museum this typical old Hawaiian restaurant began after WWII. Our Hotel Concierge explained that locals don’t go to commercial luau, they come here—an 11-table, no-frills restaurant off a crumbly asphalt road. Classics like kalua pig, fried butterfish collars, and luau squid are top picks, but the signature dish s the pipi kaula short ribs, which are a... More

Family run business with old-style recipes for Ono Hawaiian food. Local ambience (basic, clean, welcoming to all). Helen Chock had breast cancer when she was a young woman and told me that she rehabilitated herself post mastectomy by viewing her work in the kitchen--lifting, stirring, chopping and reaching high for things as good exercise. She died of a second cancer... More

The cooks were trained in the old Hawaiian art of cooking cuisine. The food is very tasty, and you will have a memorable experience, when you dine here. All of their plates are made with true love and affection that will tantalize your palate. It is a place you will return to eat at every time you come to Oahu.... More

We visited Helena's in July. We had read about it in our tour book and coupled it with a visit to the beautiful Bishop Museum. The wait staff was so attentive! They helped us order very delicious food with the aid of a book with photographs of the different dishes. The coconut dessert that came with the meal was amazing.... More

The Hawaiian food at Helena's is the BEST: very fresh, very Ono (delicious)! I would give the restaurant 5 stars. The drawback is there is always a fairly long wait for a table (it is a small restaurant), and it is not that easy to find parking near the restaurant. I would recommend going early. Also, check the web site... More

In Hawaiian, ONO means delicious! This is THE most authentic Hawaiian food, if you can't have home made. It is the first stop I make after I land; and the last meal I have before I leave Oahu. You will see locals line up early. So be prepared to stand in a queue. Also check the days of operation. They... More

In old part of town, close to Bishop Museum. Typical old Hawaiian restaurant from the 50's. Not fancy, diner type. Authentic Hawaiian foods. Price is good. Also great for take out

Thank Richard W
