i have been coming to hoku's with my family for years to celebrate special occasions. now, during covid, for brunch and dinner they are offering prix fixe menus. the seafood, meat, fruit and farm fresh vegetable selections are pristine.
when i noted in the reservation...that i was vegan, the chef modified every single course on the tasting menu with precision and elegance to match the ocean views! the service was phenomenal and they couldn't be friendlier.
this is, hands down, my favorite place to dine.More

Aloha! Your loyalty is most appreciated by our team. We are humbled to be part of your special family dinners. Mahalo for taking the time to share your experience.
The atmosphere, food, service and the overall experience in this place was what we had expected from a high-end restaurant, except our unpleasant encounter at entry and exit. The reservationist was rude and had our temperature taken, asked us to fill out a form with...detailed personal information and forced us to spend 10 mins logging to SafeTravel website to show her our QR code! None of this was disclosed to the us by Opentable or the restaurant in advance. When we left she was not at the door to say thank you for spending $700 for 3 people! The maitre de did not come to our table to ask about the food and service while we could see him going to larger tables to check on the same?!More

Aloha! We sincerely appreciate your patronage! Apologies for the frustrations you encountered on arrival. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again. Mahalo.
Lovely grounds, beautiful views. Service was incredible, we never wanted for a thing. Crab and lobster were delicious, but I could do without the bone marrow rice, just a bit too strong to be paired with the lobster. Overall a nice place for dinner. Current...two options, either four or eight course meal. Portions were a bit small but still worked. First restaurant to check our QR code for COVID, which is not a bad thing, they take it seriously. Pineapple cider was thirst quenching and the options for dessert were all fantastic.More

Aloha! Thank you for joining us. We appreciate the time you took to share your visit and your comments are genuinely appreciated. Mahalo.
Oh, my. Where to start? First, know that I will sleep cheap and eat expensive all day long. This was the most expensive meal I have ever had. And I would do it again! In the beautiful Kahala Resort, 10 minutes from downtown Honolulu, garage...parking validated.
The restaurant is beautiful. We were seated in a kitty-corner table with ocean-view windows on both sides. Get there before dark! Immediately, our personable and efficient waiter, Jared, appeared, confirmed our previously communicated desire for the 8 course tasting menu with wine pairings and brought us our choice of sparkling water. Kent, his ubiquitous assistant, brought a basket of delicious bread (warm brioche!) with an ahi-based spread. Then followed an amuse bouche of vichyssoise and 8 courses, artfully plated and perfectly paced. We never felt rushed nor kept waiting. And the portion sizes for a tasting menu were perfectly tiny. We only brought bread home in our doggie bag. And didn’t feel stuffed. Or drunk!
I assume the choices change as seasonal availability of various vegetables (Oprah’s, no less) , fruits, fish and meats do. There wasn’t a single disappointment in our nearly 3 hour experience. (In COVID, dining options ARE limited at this time to the tasting menus, btw. And there is a 4 course one AND vegetarian options). My husband’s favorites were the butter poached lobster and the rib-eye steak. Both paired with perfect wines. I was very taken with the pineapple shave ice on a bed of gelled vanilla wine.
The very occasional treat of a talented chef’s tasting menu is such a multi-sensory wonder. We have had half a dozen over the years (Maido, Cipriani at the Copacabana, Atmospher, Alan Wong’s). From a taste and experience perspective, this was one of the best. It was like being in one of our favorite cooking shows.
My only quibble? At these prices, charging extra for water, coffee and tea seems a little much (literally).
Live your life. And enjoy every bite!More

Mahalo for sharing a very thoughtful review. We are pleased you enjoyed Chef Jonathan's prix fixe menu.
We look forward to serving you again!
My family of 4 went there to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday and this was definitely a memorable place! The resort is very high end, as is the restaurant. Even during COVID, they provided complimentary valet parking.
They offer an 8-course dinner for $200 or...a 4-course dinner for $90. We opted for the 4-course, and it was plenty of food! Each course was exceptionally cooked and the presentation was top notch, our compliments to the chef!
The staff was exceptionally friendly. Despite such a high end place, our server was very down to earth and made us feel very welcomed and she was not stuff at all. The restaurant manager was very friendly as well, and came by to chat with us and made us feel very welcomed and special.
The meal is a little on the pricey side, but for the quality of the meal, the service, and the ambiance, it is well worth it!More

Even tough weekday night, this restaurant was booked almost all seats by local people. I may not need so much explanation for this restaurant, because I totally enjoyed their hospitality and foods. Highly recommended to visit this restaurant if you love to go to luxury...dinner. Face mask, temperature check and reservation are required. They may provide kids special meal for young adults. Please ask them when you reserve this restaurant.More

Aloha! Thank you for sharing a review, it was a pleasure to host you for dinner. We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed your culinary journeys, and our hospitality! We look forward to welcoming you back, mahalo!
Dinner here with my wife last week. One waiter and dedicated assistant seems to be the service model. They did a great job and we wanted for nothing the whole evening. Our dinner took about 3 hours which included pre-dinner cocktail, 2 appetizers (consecutive), entree'...and dessert. My wife had a lightly breaded shrimp entree' which almost seemed tempura; I tried a bite and it was awesome. I had lamb chops and though my wife offered more of her dish I declined. I didn't want any other taste interfering with the lamb flavors. The 'crust' was amazing and there was a light mint flavor throughout each chop. Not sure how they did that but it was really the best lamb I have ever had. After-dinner coffee was rich, hot, and full of a unique flavor that went super well with the chocolate dessert, some kind of ooze cake. My favorite thing was that they had my fav wine on their lists, Tinto Pesquera, 2014. It was very reasonsably priced. I have an abundance of this wine at home and am very familiar with vintage and pricing and this bottle was frankly under-priced, but of course I was thankful for that. Just an all-around pleasant, upscale, well done expereince. Thanks Hoku team and chef, we appreciate it.More

We made reservation for Sunday Brunch four days in advance but were only able to have a table for five people at 1.45 PM. The interior of the restaurant was spacious with low partition design. It was bright with pleasant ambiance and beautiful view of...the beach.
The menu was well organized with a variety of food. I particularly fancied the Maine Lobsters chilled on ice, King Crab Legs and NZ Rack of Lamb. Containers in different stations were refilled or replaced with fresh food promptly before they were depleted. The servers were friendly and attentive taking away empty plates in very timely fashion.
The price including a glass of soft drink was $80 per person, which was very good value. The wine list included a wide selection from different countries in the world.
After the heavy meal, we had a walk around the pool/pond area of the hotel and watched the Dolphin Show. It was a pleasant outing and everyone was happy, particularly our relatives who were visiting us from England and Canada.More
