I had the Filet of the tonkatsu on the menu and found that it was extremely tender, almost like the tonkatsu in Japan. Nicely deep fried to a crispy consistency outside, but juicy and tender inside. Oishii! There was a generous amount of thinly shredded cabbage also like in Japan. No free seconds on the shredded cabbage though, shucks! Three... More

We go to Gyotaku about once each month. It's a nice family restaurant with tasty Japanese food. Service is fast and their staff is very helpful.

Service was extremely slow and now Gyotaku has decided to add an additional 4% service charge for kitchen wait staff. Haven't seen this new "fee" at other local restaurants so Gyotaku has decided to pass along their cost of doing business to their customers. When given a choice we will patronize other businesses who don't add more forced service charges... More

We use to love dining here and would come quite often. It was one of the few places that we wouldn't mind bring guests to. Our last visit we encountered a business change where they started to charge 4% additional fee to the check for back of house service. I was shocked at the fee since we normally tip 20... More

My family and I met with some friends at the Niu Valley location for dinner. Living in Hawaii Kai this is a wonderful discovery since quality offerings are limited. The service is excellent. Smiles and respectable behavior are always a plus for me. The setting is family oriented, simple, and beautifully decorated. The food is splendid! Everyone enjoyed their appetizers,... More

Gyotaku has recently revised their takeout menu and have increased their prices. First Gyotaku eliminated miso soup from take out, and now they've eliminated the toss green salad which previously came with takeout. Although we prefer to patronize our local neighborhood restaurants, Gyotaku is slowly making decisions we're not happy about. Perhaps it's time for another family type Japanese restaurant... More

KIDS EAT FREE Monday and Tuesdays. (with paid adult meal) If you do not like eating with kids around, do not eat here on Mon/Tues because those of us with kids bring them in busloads on those days. Why do we bring them here? It could be the cute origami paper that they get at the start of the meal... More

Friendly reception by genuinely welcoming good-looking hostesses, “Your booth is ready for you.” Nice, big place. Nothing fancy, very good and comfortable. Well run. A touch noisy. Service: Alvin, the best. His big smiling eyes immediately project professional knowledge and pleasant personality. A joy to be attended to. Promptly there to make recommendations. Needed. 6 big pages menu, all choices... More
