Wow! We loved Marugame Udon in Honolulu so much that we went twice on our 8 day vacation in O'ahu. The first day we went we were SO HUNGRY after our day at Pearl Harbor. The line was reasonable and we waited about 30 minutes...before we got our food. Thankfully not enough time to get hangry in the process of waiting. I ordered the regular sized Nikutama and my husband had the regular sized Curry Nikutama. We also got a chicken, fish cake, shrimp and tamgoyaki tempura to share. We tasted each other's udon and we can both agree they were delicious. So flavorful! And the tempura was fresh and crisp on the outside. The chicken tempura was the star. for sure. I did notice my onsen egg was missing so I went back to the register and let the lady know. She gave me one, no questions asked. Also, you may look and think you need to save seats but: #1. You can't. #2. You don't need to. The man seating people and keeping the dining area clean is a pro. Don't you worry...you will get a seat in no time so you can enjoy your tasty udon while it's fresh and hot. Our second time I wasn't even that hungry since we were grazing on different foods from different places earlier. But we opted for the simpler udon dishes, the regular Kitsune and the regular Ontama and three tempura items. The mushrooms, squid and the chicken again. And the lady at the register didn't say anything but just grabbed another piece of the chicken and put it on my plate. I was confused and asked her what that was and she said the piece I picked was too small so she gave me another one. So thoughtful! As not hungry as I thought I was, we both finished everything again. Overall, great food, great service and great location too! We will definitely go again when we return!More

Referred by a friend to go for lunch. Queue out the front suggested the food was good and it really was. Despite the fact it was busy it didnt take long to be served and seated. Very efficient. Ramen was Super tasty. Loved it.

Quick and delicious food. We ate here twice. Had the udon, beef udon and chicken teriyaki. Regular portion was large. Hot and tasty. Considered inexpensive by Waikiki standard but still pricey compared to home

We ate lunch here a few times during our 6 day stay. It was the BEST UDON ever. We are from Toronto, Ontario Canada and have travelled through Asia and have eaten at several Asian restaurants in Toronto. This is by far the best Udon...we have ever had the pleasure to eat. They make the noodles right there in front of you and everything was so tasty and fresh. I had the Curry Nikutama and it was DELICIOUS. You don't eat there because of the decor, it's more like a diner. But the food was outstanding and the prices were very reasonable.More

There is a long qeue to the restaurant every day which made us interested in testing the restaurant. The food is disappointing, the noodles is nothing special and the tempura meats are poor quality.

The best value and the best taste in a sea of mediocre and overpriced venues. The line is long for a reason but it moves quick. Order pickup for quicker results

This was one of the best meals I had in Waikiki. Don’t let the long line deter you- it is worth the wait!

We are long time customers of Marukame Udon. On our last vacation, after waiting on the long line, we had our tasty Udon. Even the regular size, it is a plenty portion, very filling. Recommended.

Udon is good, but don’t bother with the beef. Stringy bits of meat and fat that aren’t edible. Tempura is good, but cold. Chicken Teriyaki Rice bowl is very good.

I honestly don’t get how is this udon restaurant so famous that people are willing to wait for half an hour to taste it. It is honestly no difference from any other udon you can get from a Japanese restaurant. You can try it out...if you are in the neighborhood and the line is not long. No point in waiting for half an hour for it.More

This place is not fancy. But if you are craving a bowl of wonderful udon soup with a range of toppings at an affordable price, this is the place for you. We found this place 2 years ago and were relieved to see that it...had survived the pandemic when we returned in early December. A variety of broths, and range of servings is available and then a variety of items that can be added such as shrimp tempura. The staff was very helpful when my husband ordered a new dish. They provided instructions on how best to enjoy it. We were most grateful for the unsolicited guidance. The customer line can get very long and the seating is limited. So we chose to dine early, around 4 pm. This works for us although obviously may not work for everyone. Staff busses the tables quickly so that seats can be made available as quickly as possible. We will definitely return to enjoy this great find!More

We waited 30 minutes in take out and got large paper cups holding our "hot noodles". Inside were cold noodles and no soup . It was too salty . The tempura was not hot and was also too salty . Clearly the takeout window was...pushing out old food that they dared not to sell to the dine in customers. I do not know how this place got so many good reviews, must be internet server BOTS jacking up their real score. Not to mention the leftovers were over priced .More

I joined the long line a few minutes before opening time at 11 am on a Sunday. The line moved quickly. I had a regular ontama udon and shrimp and sweet potato tempuras. Cost before tip was around $12. The udon was fresh and delicious....The tempura pieces were quite good. The place looks nice and clean. It's the first place I go to eat when visiting WaikikiMore

Though the line outside is long….it moves quickly. They had an employee in the dining area helping to find seats for people which was great since we had 5 plus an infant. Food was quick and delicious. My only “gripe” was the lack of hot...sauce. As we were finishing up, I did see someone bring over chili flakes. It was also VERY hot in there. Overall, we really enjoyed the from-scratch udon, teriyaki chicken katsu bowl, and the various tempura items (zucchini, shrimp, etc).More

Yes I believe there is MSG in their food. I can tell whenever I eat foods with MSG I get really thirsty afterwards and it was the case here.
