About
O'Brien's Pub is located in the fifth ward district of Newport RI, and has been operated continuously since 1945. Our current operation was established in 1979 and has continued to be a local favorite among Newport residents and tourists alike. The outdoor garden patio has grown to seat over 200 customers and is an enjoyable place to meet for cocktails and to sit for lunch or dinner. Children are typically kept busy by our play fish fountain located in the center of the patio. O'Brien's Pub has a large menu which features daily appetizers, lunch, and dinner specials. We have variety of imported and domestic beer, as well as frozen drink and coffee specialties. O'Brien's Pub is open 364 days

There is a great patio street side with umbrellas and a view of great people watching. However there were too many dogs there for my taste. So even though it was a beautiful day, we chose to dine in the covered bar area. Service was...great and food was very tasty and plentiful.More

Went for dinner. Food was just okay, not great. I had fish and chips. The fish was tough. Ordered blueberry beer but it was just beer with blueberries floating in it. Very relaxing atmosphere. Dog friendly.

We had read that the fountain in the outdoor area was popular with young kids and they were right. Our almost 4-year-old grandson played for 20 minutes with several other youngsters until our food came. And a couple with a dog sat next to us...which he loved. We were able to get a table with no wait at 5: 00 on a Monday evening.More

We liked the outdoor seating. Service was nice. However for a place called O'Briens, there was minimal Irish fare. No Bangers and Mash, Shepherds Pie, or stew to be found. Food that we did get was, fine, under seasoned. And who serves a Hot Toddy...in a beer glass?More

We sat inside because of the weather. Very nice inside, plenty of beer selections and the pulled pork nachos are great. Looks like plenty of outdoor seating when the weather warms up.

We had dinner here on the last day of our visit . All tables were outside and it was a bit windy and chilly so that impacted our experience . The beer selection is good , however the wine in the glass comes in a...plastic cup ; yes for $10 you receive it in a small orange juice type plastic cup . It was explained that glasses for drinks are not being used currently - only plastic . Ok . Calamari appetizer was a bit over breaded , main courses were a decent burger , ok salmon and a shrimp curry dish . Food was average , service was good . Would I return ? Doubtful - I would try other places for sureMore

If you are there for the bar scene, have kids that need to run around outdoors, or you are just indifferent about food, then this is your place. If you are looking to have a good meal, there are better options. No creativity seems to...have gone into the menu or cooking. I think they are just taking advantage of their location to serve basic food at above basic prices in a good location.More

My husband and I had lunch here during our recent stay in Newport. We were able to sit outside near the fountain on a beautiful afternoon. The restaurant is very kid and dog friendly, and definitely has a casual pub vibe. Our service was very...good and so was the food. The lobster mac & cheese is amazing! They definitely don’t skimp on the amount of lobster they put in it. My husband had the pizza and although he enjoyed it, the crust is very thin, just so you are aware. Bonus points for parking in the back!More

We were excited to try a new place with vegetarian and gluten free options. Unfortunately, the food was just ok, but not great. The atmosphere was casual, outdoor dining which was nice. The duck fountain was quirky. Our server was very sweet. The veggie burger...was nothing special, not super seasoned or meaty. The fries were a hit. The citrus chicken was seasoned pretty well although the chicken was rather dry. Broccoli and baked potato were pretty standard. It was worth a try.More

We were here for lunch. Catherine D. provided excellent and friendly service, very helpful. We both had the fish and chips, though my wife asked for sliced tomato instead of chips. They gave her an entire tomato! Perfect.

We tried other lobster rolls In Newport and were sadly disappointed. O’Brien’s Pub has THE best lobster roll in Newport. Its a cold lobster roll with very little dressing and bug chunks of lobster! It was delicious.

We discovered O’Brien’s on our last day in Newport. We stopped for dinner, and although they were busy, we were seated within 15-20 minutes. The waitress informed us that the kitchen was backed up, and it did take awhile to get our food, but we...didn’t mind. We sat on the patio, which is dog friendly. The menu selections were decent, and that’s how I would rate the food. Not the best I’ve eaten, but good. The waitress was friendly and provided good service. It was the evening of the fireworks, and she managed to get us served and get us the check before the fireworks started, which we appreciated.More

We called, said they were not taking phone orders. Website said kitchen open until ten. We drove over. We were then told at 9:15 that the kitchen was closed. Double bummer. Looked kind of dirty anyway, we were probably saved a trip to the head...mid-night, so TWO STARS FOR THATMore
