We chose Jo's because we couldn't easily find a place to eat near the water. This bistro is in an easy to find/park location and is lovely inside. The menu is not huge, but offers a mix of high to mid-priced items that all sounded...appealing and interesting. My husband ordered clam chowder which was good, but nothing special. I ordered lobster bisque. It was beautifully presented, with a nicely sized lobster piece in the center. Unfortunately, it was little more than a bland tomato soup with that delicious piece of lobster in the middle. Disappointing for sure, compared to two other lobster bisques we'd had at much more modest places. I had a salad which was good and my husband had a pizza like offering which was also nice. All in all, a lovely restaurant with pretty mediocre food, but with good service. After this eating experience, I would be leary about ordering a high-priced offering.More

The food is very good. The location is convenient. The service was prompt and efficient. We dined upstairs and found the pace to be relaxed and lovely. The chowder was perfect. Entrees were prepped well. One in our party had the burger and swore by...it. The pork chop was tender and flavorful. Everything was seasoned well. This is one of the better locations in Newport and one of the more reasonably priced. It was a good meal with good value.More

My husband and I had lunch here recently and very much enjoyed ourselves. We were able to sit on the upper balcony with the windows open on a beautiful October day. Staff was friendly and service was great. The fish sandwich was to die for...and my husband said his burger was the best he’d had in a while. The fries were also amazing! Definitely a place to try if you’re in the area!More

My husband finished his 45th State Marathon so we celebrated by going to Jo’s American Bistro. We were not disappointed! We started with the lobster/duck quesadilla as our appetizer. Easily a hearty start for two people and fantastic. We followed this up with both the...clam chowder and lobster bisque (one of the best I’ve had in Newport) both winners! We both had the lobster carbonara - totally amazing and huge portions. We concluded our dinner with a huge slice of flourless chocolate torte . All I can say is that we were totally stuffed and will probably be skipping breakfast tomorrow! A shout out to our fantastic waitress Tracy! She was very friendly and helpful throughout the evening. She made us feel so at home! We enjoyed bantering with her. Yay Tracy 👏👏More

Any dish you choose will be a winner! Staff is attentive and welcoming. I highly recommend the lobster roll. Best I have ever had. The lobster carbonara is excellent as well.

My wife and I were in town for a weekend and had a wonderful dinner at Jo's. We requested outdoor seating at the time of reservation and they were kind enough to accommodate our request. The menu consists of a good representation of bistro food....The calamari was very tender and tasty - definitely not the ordinary frozen stuff you get at other places. The roasted cod was very well prepared - a nice medallion and a few steamed clams in a tomato sauce. The sauce really made the dish work - the sweetness of the tomatoes nicely complement the fish. It is a simple dish but very nicely executed. Well done! Service was attentive and prompt. Will definitely come back on our next trip to Newport.More

Well, getting there was a hassle. Even on Sundays had to pay for street parking until 9 P.M. and no parking was available.... Personnel, as dry as paint. Welcoming disposition was lacking. Not enough light on the 2nd. fl. - table next to us, the...patron had to turn his phone light to read the menu.. Food was decent, but sodas were watery. In conclusion, low personal interactions. My advise: if you feel entitled, could be your cup, otherwise, take your business elsewhere...More

I actually found Jo's through Trip Advisor, so thanks everyone else before me who left a review. This place is pretty good. There is plenty of street parking, it is easy to find, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered the clam chowder, which...was served on a plate (which is pretty old school). The highlight was the lobster and duck quesadilla, which had enough lobster and duck to really make it stand out. However, it was waaaay to salty. This was the main thing that prevents Jo's from getting a 5 -star review from me. The steamed clams came stuffed with a variety of bacon and peppers, but the broth itself was bitter. I am not sure if it was from using wine to make the broth, or that the clams were not fresh, but it was disappointing. The cod was also a disappointment, as the bitterness from the clams that came with the dish returned. The cod itself was fresh and good. Lobster carbonara was great, but so, so, salty. It was creamy, had the bacon bits, the lobster, and I am sure I gained two pounds from that dish alone. If the sodium level was tuned down, it would have been perfect. If the restaurant actually reads the reviews, I would really recommend lowering the amount of salt. SHOULD YOU VISIT THIS PLACE: YES Jo's is an exciting restaurant in a town filled with fried fish and lobster rolls. It is innovative and the food is good, if overly salty.More

We came here to celebrate our anniversary. It was within walking distance of the bed and breakfast we were staying at in Newport. We were a bit early for our reservation but they were able to sit us right away. The server was very friendly...and her service was outstanding without hovering. We had the Calamari for our appetizer, my wife had the Half Chicken and I had the Filet Mignon for our entrees. Everything was wonderful. The Filet was served with a Bordelaise sauce and was simply marvelous. We had a bottle of Argentinian Malbec with our dinner. In a town with a lot of good options for dinner, Jo's is right at the top. The only wrong note of the evening was even though we were a few minutes early for an early reservation in the middle of the week, we were sat upstairs in the 'overflow' dining room instead of in the main room.More

The service was friendly and efficient. My wife and I both had selections off the the Pri fix menu. I had the spaghetti and meatballs and my wife had the chicken piccata. Both excellent. The music was a little loud but other than that, a...very good experience. I highly recommend and will return.More

It’s not cargo shorts and tee shirts for guys, or crop tops and short shorts for women but it’s not sports jackets for men and Lilly Pulitzer or Eileen Fisher for women. You could pull that off if you wanted to dress.
