We planned to eat at the dining room at the Hyatt on Goat Island. It was horrible. Who pays $500 a night to stay at that dump? It makes a Holiday Inn look like a luxury location. The menu was limited and uninteresting, so we left before ordering. Mamma Luisa's was our alternative and it was great. It's a creaky... More

If you are looking for an old school Italian meal in Newport, then this may be the place for you. Our party of 6 enjoyed our meal, but frankly we were expecting a bit more creativity based on the reviews here. Mind you, our appetizers and dishes were fine, but the menu, presentation and service is about average as compared... More

One of the reasons we chose Mamma Luigi's for dinner was the proximity to the apartment we were staying in. We were beyond pleasantly surprised. The wait staff was friendly, personable and knowledgeable. Both experienced travelers who come from NY, we were delighted by the quality of the dishes. The Spaghetti Carbonara was silky and gorgeous both for texture and... More

When a fussy New Yorker chooses to dine on Italian food in Newport -- you know it has to be something special. All the dishes are so well prepared and full of flavor -- it tastes like there is a grandma in the kitchen whipping up all her secret recipes just for you. I've enjoyed some of the freshest and... Another great Italian restaurant in Newport. We went specifically because they are one of a few who makes a vegetarian version of their Bolognese sauce using seitan. Both of our dishes were fantastic. The desserts were equally well prepared. We started with a cheese plate that must have had 8 oz. of cheese between the four types. Our server was... More

We have been going to Momma Luisa whenever we are in Newport. We have never had a bad meal. My husband and I have had most of the items on the menu favoring their veal with lemon and artichoke hearts which is what we had this past weekend. We also had the Caprese and Exotica salad both excellent. The ingredients... More

I phoned the restaurant 2 weeks in advance out of respect- The lady asked what time and date I told her,she took my name ,number. The night before our reservation Mama Luisas called to confirm. I rang back thinking I was being respectful and was told they didn't have my reservation and I asked hoe they managed to call me... More

This is a small Italian place on Thames. We were prompt for our 5:15 reservation or they would have charged $25 cancellation fee per person!! The waitress was not friendly, did not know the wines and was slow. 3 out of 8 meals came out overcooked. Then they told us we couldn't have dessert because they needed the table at... More
