We were just looking for a close place for dinner and ended up here. I’m glad we did because the food was delightful. I had the lobster ravioli and my boyfriend the shrimp scampi and we weren’t disappointed. It had a great atmosphere as well....We really enjoyed it.More

We’ve been looking for a nice pizza restaurant and we definitely found it at Sardellas’s. Had a great night next to the fireplace drinking wine and enjoying our pizza’s. Good service from our waiter Capri. Authentic Italian from the appetizers to desserts. We really enjoyed...our experience.More

i am vegan and my wife is vegetarian- not an easy combo to satisfy in newport! Will, our server, and the rest of the team helped make our first dinner in newport a hit. The garlic bread is vegan and it is just perfect. We...also had their pizza and tomato soup- all as good as any nice restaurant in New York. The combination of great service and great food make this a must visit restauran in Newport.More

We were in Newport so we went to Sardellas for dinner. We started with the calamari - very good. I had eggplant parm my husband chicken parm both very good. Bread was also good. Parking can be an issue but we got a spot right...out in front. Bring quarters it is metered. Very good Italian restaurant.More

The best asset of Sardellas other than the food is the cozy feel and the traditional feel of the restaurant, feels far from a tourist eatery and more like a local gem. I hate to say this but I generally order the pizza over everything...else on the menu, its just so good...the calamari is always crispy and full of flavor too, those are my 2 favorite things on the menu.More

Wait staff appeared at our table but only after we caught their eye and this was after waiting 25 minutes to provide our dinner selections. Busboy dropped part of our bread basket and just plopped what was remaining on our table. Had to ask for...everything such as utensils, plates, bread and oil. Wait staff running around as best as possible with no support from management who should be the ones overseeing table service. When the food finally arrived I was hopeful but it was just more disappointment. We were a table of six and no one raved about their entree choice. Went to Sardella's only because they were rated highly but don't understand how they could have gotten a good rating based on my experience there. I went to Pasta Beach the week before and it was so much better in every aspect. Never again at Sardella's.More

Thursday afternoon looking for a place to have early dinner - times posted in Trip Advisor said Sardellas opened at 5 PM so we were surprised when we drove by on way to another restaurant to see the doors open at 4 PM. We stopped...and were told they started to open at 4 when they reopened recently. We ended up being their first customers for the day. Sardella’s has been one of our go-to places when we visit Newport. COVID 19 precautions seemed very up to the standards. Ordered drinks and mozzarella appetizer. Happy with both although I think the appetizer was overpriced for the quantity. I had veal Parmesan and wife had ravioli in a cheese sauce. Both were very good including the sauces. Service was efficient and friendly. Overall, prices were fair.More

We had dinner hear on our first night and the food and staff were great. We originally sat outside but it kookiest like storm clouds were rolling in and they had no problem moving us indoors before the first drop fell.

The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as expected from an Italian restaurant. Tomato sauce had a slight "burnt" taste to it and bread was served with butter (we are accustomed to oil and cheese.) Only parking is at meters on street and...it can be a challenge to find a spot.More

The best to be offered about Sardella’s is its ambiance. It’s a warm, inviting atmosphere with notable recent interior renovations. The trimmer, however, didn’t get the call on the need for upholstery of the bar seats. Ah, well, it’s a talent from a bygone era,...just like talent of good cooking—the recipes may have come from granny, but you may need a return to Italy to find how it’s done. You won’t find good Italian cooking in this iteration of Sardella’s. Sorry, it’s bad and remarkably bad at that. A pasta offering looks and tastes as if were over-cooked in yesterday’s dish water. It’s served slopped on a ‘cold’ plate tossed with the worst version of a marinara ever tagged with the name. It’s red, the restaurant got that right, but not much else. Anything breaded or parmesan (?) will go through a soggy waltz with a slug of stiffened mozzarella, so make sure you ask for a steak knife. And take a pass on the bread offered, you might just as well chew on grandma’s shoe. As far as “exquisite service” that too is page from the past. It’s spotty, unfocused and badly in need of a serious maître d’—tough love, but necessary. There are other venues in and outside of Newport that are appreciably better at providing a decent reflection of this ‘apparently’ simple food we call Italian. The advice from this Italian food lover, who has decades of cooking experience (and dining) in fine restaurants outside of Rhode Island, is to go to those other Italian restaurants instead and avoid the disappointment.More
