The Spiced Pear is the restaurant at the very elegant and expensive Hotel Chanler in Newport. The restaurant is open for all three meals, but dinner is in a separate and more elegant room than are breakfast and lunch. The menu and wine list are both first rate, and everything is a la carte (no fixed-price menus). Service is excellent... More

A change since our last visit; apparently the restaurant for Al fresco dining at lunch is now called Chandlers. The Spiced Pear is the formal dining room inside & upstairs. The lunch menu did seem more casual, but still with that extra flair. Prices for sandwiches range from $15 - $24, but the quality is in keeping with the price.... More

We started with the Edamame dumplings and New England clam chowder. The chowder was nice and creamy, with just a hint of dill. The dumplings were yummy. Wife had kangaroo sliders (special of the day - they had Emu the day before!). Not gamey at all, and very tender. I had the fish tacos which had just the right amount... More

Every year we look forward to a nice lunch at the Spiced Pear for the start of our summer in Newport and this year we were very disappointed. The signature martini which i look forward to at the start of the season was a big disappointment. The fish tacos should be advertised as cabbage tacos and the Lemon dessert was... More

As a local in Newport I like to check out all the local restaurants. The Spiced Pear, by reputation, was the last on my list but I became very hopeful when I walked in. Everything about the place is gorgeous; The view, the dinning room, the kitchen, everything. I started at the outside bar where I had a few drinks... More

A very intimate setting overlooking the sprawling lawn and ocean. The food was amazing. Perfect romantic evening although I did dine with my family.

When this restaurant opened years ago it was absolutely superb! I recently took out of town guests there for lunch (overlooking the Beach, Ocean & Famous Cliff Walk). A definite "A" for location as well as very friendly service. But the Food was a disaster. I know New England Clam Chowder is different everywhere but I didn't expect the ingredients... More

We stayed for just one night and wanted a special dinner in an elegant setting. We got everything that we wanted. Service was friendly and very professional. The meal was exceptional and the wine list was interesting. We couldn't have asked for more. Loved it!

My husbands dinner of shrimp and scallops was undercooked and lacked flavor. My meal was done before his came back from the kitchen! I had lamb tenderloin which was ok but certainly not worth the price. Perhaps they could have thrown in dessert as a nice gesture....so my birthday dinner was very disappointing....by the way, we spent a lot of... More
