Described as Cajun BBQ, I expected spicy meat dishes but this place offered more than that. This casual place is very unassuming. You order at the counter and sit on tables covered with paper. There are crayons at the table so we played Tic Tac...Toe while we waited. We ordered skillet cornbread, which was excellent. We ordered pulled pork and beef brisket sliders and catfish pieces with sweet potato fries. Everything was very good. The fish was tender and the beef brisket was the favorite. The bread pudding was phenomenal. There is a single stall restroom and the whole place is decorated in honor of Louis Armstrong.More

Honestly, I think this is the best BBQ joint I have ever been to. The food was perfectly smoked and delicious. The Cajun flair really adds to the traditional BBQ. You really need to give this place a try.

Delicious pulled pork with good sauces. Service was very friendly. Location/exterior is pretty ratchet, but don't worry about that. Jambalaya was also delicious and well spiced with lots of flavor. Prices a little on the high side, but you get large portions. Worth a visit

If you are missing the GOOD stuff (gumbo, beans/ cornbread, jambalaya or catfish), this is the place to go!! Order when you walk in and before you are there long enough to color on the paper tablecloth (crayons provided), your food will be in front...of you. So many great choices! AMAZING food, helpful friendly staff, funny t-shirts ("Guess what we smoked today?" Or "We love pig butts and we cannot lie") Don't miss out on this one!!More

Don’t let the lack of curb appeal on the outside keep you from going in. They food was amazing. Ribs, brisket and mac & cheese was worth the wait. Recommend going early as the restaurant is small and it gets busy for both take out...and eating in.More

Don’t let the humble exterior mislead you. This was great! Good service, good prices, great food! The burnt tips are amazing! Crisp, juicy & tasty. (Only available Sundays- we were lucky.) Jambalaya was spicy but not too hot with lots of andouille, peppers & onions....We also enjoyed the pulled pork— done just right— red beans & rice, corn bread & slaw.More

My wife and I stopped in at Satchmos this week. We had the blackened catfish on jambalaya. The catfish was perfectly cooked with a Wonderful crust, and a delicious sauce, and the jambalaya was magnificent Dash a terrific dish in its own right. We also...had a half rack of pork ribs. The phrase.” fall off the bone” exactly describes what we received. They were very meaty, ribs, tender and delicious, and there were several barbecue sauces to try. it was a dinner of some really distinctive flavors, and we thoroughly enjoyed it.More

Man, I am SO glad that the restaurant my son wanted to go to was closed so we got to try out this GREAT place. My husband said that his shrimp po-boy was the best he's had (except for in New Orleans). We got the...pulled pork and brisket -- YUMMY. I wish I could tell you how good the burnt ends are (only on Sunday), but they must be great, because they were sold out by noon! We also got the cole slaw, which was not that horrible, mayonnaise-y mess that you usually get. It was sweet and a bit vinegar-y and had jalepeños. We lucked out because we only ordered a 1/4 pound (only my DIL usually likes cole slaw), but we received a 1/2 pound. WE ALL stole some of the slaw to put on our sliders. Way tasty! I'd also recommend the skillet of corn bread. The only thing I'd stay away from is the gumbo. It was just not good. The sausage was so over-cooked it was tasteless. It was very spicy (I'm Mexican and that's usually a positive), but not the good-spicy, just the "this is burning my mouth for no reason" kind of spicy. Too bad we live in Phoenix -- we'd be at Satchmo's every Sunday (and early enough to try the burnt ends!).More

Stopped by to eat on our way to Sedona, we had blackened swai fish on jambalaya, catfish bites and half rack ribs. Loved everything! The ribs were tender. I love the spicy bbq sauce with it. The staff was super friendly. Highly recommend this place.

The high Yelp rating was the leading factor in selecting Satchmo’s. The rating is well deserved. The food and staff were excellent. I had the Blackened Swai Filet on Jambalaya. It was properly seasoned and prepared. Definitely spicy and tasty. The Swai and Jambalaya were...a nice combination of flavors and textures. They were served hot to my table. I dined in. The ambiance is simple, but clean and well maintained. The various photos adequately convey the atmosphere. The temperature was comfortable. Will definitely be back!!More

Gave this place a try based on the other reviews and the fact we enjoy Cajun and BBQ. Don't be deceived by the exterior appearance in an old strip shopping center. The food was fantastic and the service excellent. I had the jambalaya and my...wife the pulled pork. The jambalaya was very tasty with a blackened fish fillet on top. Highly recommend you give it a try. The pulled pork was excellent as were the seasoned tots. Only wish the place was closer to where we live - I'd go there once a week at least.More

We stumbled upon Satchmo's while driving through Flagstaff on the way to the Grand Canyon. What a find! Great BBQ with many choices. Don't let the location in a small out of the way strip mall deter you. Satchmo's is worth the stop.

We spent the day exploring the area and wanted to take out to take to the Airbnb. We got BBQ and make and cheese. The brisket, bite-sized catfish, pulled pork sliders, and mac and cheese were all EXCELLENT! The staff was hustling but made us...feel unrushed and a priority. We told family in Phoenix about Satchmo's as they are in the area often. Just to let you know, it is a bit hard to find in the dark, but so worth the effort. We were all VERY protective of the leftovers and the portions are big. Be ready for your taste buds to do a happy dance.More

My husband chose this place when we were planning our trip. He loves BBQ so we found Satchmos. It’s small but the customer service was huge. All the young men were so friendly and welcoming. The gentleman behind the counter helped choose our beer and...gave us samples while we waited. The other young men were so so friendly and gave amazing service. The food was delicious.
